- The University of Nebraska has hired a Philadelphia branding firm for $605,000 to help promote (Type: photo | Published: 2014-11-26T15:58:41+0000)
WOWT 6 News: The University of Nebraska has hired a Philadelphia branding firm for $605,000 to help promote its institutes, online class offerings and general educational opportunities. Is this a good investment or could the money have been better spent? wowt.com/a?a=283968981 #watchWOWTComments:
jenny rodasky - Doesn't uno have a marketing department. Use the students, pay them with scholarships. Don't throw the money outside of Nebraska.
tanner lawrence - While they tell all hourly employees they have no money for raises.
crystal renee - Hmm maybe find a way to make books and classes cheaper for students hmmm maybe then they would get more students
kris sands - The students there are brilliant. Couldn't they have had first try at doing that before a high priced firm was brought in????? Geesh, use the minds you have there already!!!
mitch roy - No branding firm in Nebraska?
mark dews - There are several firms in Omaha and Lincoln alone that could have done this. This move seems to show a lack of faith in what Nebraska has to offer.
todd chipman - Ridiculous. Why couldn't the Marketing Department at NU College of Business have a contest with students working with faculty on teams come up with several ideas for administrators to choose from. Award the top three teams with $. This would benefit students, faculty, and NU.
shelley taylor agena - Couldn't a NE firm do it?
audra waller - So stupid!!! That money could have gone for scholarships to promote the school. For 1/2 price tuition most people would be all over The University without the need for a branding firm!!!
melani carlson - Plus there are plenty of marketing firms in Omaha/Lincoln they could have used that have alumni of UNL.
melani carlson - Right after they announce the raised tuition. Almost 50k for a four year degree that may or may not get you a job paying 25k a year.
amanda saner - Our opinion doesn't matter. What's done is done.
aaron haws - And THIS... my friends, is why college tuition is so high!!!! The best marketing tool a university can have is the quality of its graduates!! Universities who spend bajillions of dollars on marketing are usually crappy, because they have to make up for what they are lacking in their quality graduate output!! Gotta get the students to attend somehow!!!
nancy yackle - It's not our brand that needs updating.
sally mckinney - Lower tuition and more people will attend
brad alexander - If the $605,000 brings in more than $605,000 in new students, then yes it's a good investment.
mackenzie bald - How about putting some money towards parking and convenience? This considering some students go home and miss class after looking for parking for over a half hour and refusing to park a mile away.
roger jacobs - Is that why they raised tuition and dorm rates so they could try and justify this.
adam mcdermott - Shows nebraska is weak
brian f. cerny - Atleast hire a Nebraska firm. I guarantee there is a cousin, an in law, a brother, etc. etc. connection there somewhere. I think someone should see if any dots connect and if so, put it on social media blast and demand a resignation. This is ridiculous.
sandy eckert - Oh I'm sure that cost will be passed on to future students!
- Nikko Jenkins has filed another lawsuit accusing state of failing to adequately treat his menta (Type: link | Published: 2014-11-26T19:16:08+0000)
WOWT 6 News: Nikko Jenkins has filed another lawsuit accusing state of failing to adequately treat his mental illness. Jenkins is seeking $1.7 million in damages. He says his mental health deteriorated during his more than two years in solitary confinement. Two similar lawsuits he filed earlier this year were dismissed due to technical problems.Comments:
brian steere - I find it interesting on how he is competent enough to file a lawsuit but was found incompetent enough to understand the death penalty part of his trial and sentencing. Seems to me this needs to be reviewed, why are we wasting more tax payer money on this murderer?
niccole meyer - I'd like to go ahead and sue him for irritating me with this garbage.
logan kelly - and if he wins it should go to the victims family's..
erin stargel - Let him win and then give it to the little girl who no longer has a mom because of him.
dianna carbaugh brokman - Just kill him already! I'm sick of seeing his face!
lori miller-kile - He can go f$@k himself
brittany stevens - What a waste of time and tax dollars.
mary beth hanlon bisignano - I wonder if he worries about the mental health of his victims families!
jane rothe - If his mental health is so terrible, how is he competent enough to file charges? Just saying... Some hungry lawyer behind all this? Shame.
mary l. wager perez - Can't you find something better to share at Thanksgiving time than this miserable loser. I'm sure all of the victims families would be so thankful if you didn't spend so much time updating everyone on what Nikko & his family are plotting today. WE DON'T CARE!!!
tiffini sanduski - I'm sorry but I don't believe that a character such as himself should be able to file any sort of lawsuit against the state. His mental health "deteriorated" so much in solitary confinement yet when he got out he was competent enough to understand and kill and is competent enough to seek $1.7 million in damages???
amy vander veen weinman - Congrats to the local media for keeping this slimeball in the news just in time for the holiday season.
robert bothwell - If he wins the lawsuit, give the money to the families he destroyed!!
chris elliott - It's amazing how cheap a .22 caliber bullet is. Can we please use this on this waste of life.....thank you
kristi finch jones - go ahead and give it to him, then bill him the same amount for room, food, tv, clothes, health care ect...
dan volkmer - I wish the media would quit posting stories of this loser and his family. You are giving him the attention he wants. Show some respect for the victims and their families.
destiny hernandez - His mental health declined in solitary confinement?! If this is true, then I guess by 'declined' he meant he had all the time in the world to think of some stupid plan of false claims of mental illness and not to mention asking for an exaggerated amount of money! Pfft just trash!
denise hassler - But yet he refuses his meds? hmmmm....
laurie mcgarvey - Can we sue him for wasting our tax paying dollars?
janette brungardt - Just shoot the SOB.
pam jordan wolfe - I never want to see this creature again. Stop it Channel 6!
- Unusual gas drive off case. If you know this man or child call 402-592-STOP. Case 1414 (Type: photo | Published: 2014-11-27T00:16:03+0000)
WOWT 6 News: Unusual gas drive off case. If you know this man or child call 402-592-STOP. Case 1414Comments:
miko koricic - We don't know the story, could be the guy forgot or the kids started screaming. Hell he left his car door wide open. God knows I have a hard time thinking straight when my kids are going crazy. Send me the bill I'll pay it.
tina winger - If he paid for sandwiches, why didn't the cashier charge him for his gas? It's their job to pay attention to who is on the pumps and in the store.
gayle martinez - You can't post this child's photo like that. The man yes but not the child's without permission.
craig thomas - I cannot believe this crime made the news. For God's sake there are shootings and robberies daily in Omaha and you decide that this makes headline news.
rick domenge - how can you drive off when its prepay?
jesserae beck - Omg to be honest I bet this man just simply forgot to pay. I know when I have so much going in things can slip my mind. He paid for sandwiches so clearly he wasn't intending on stealing anything
leslie melichar - A dad with too much on his mind would be MY Guess. He is sauntering into the store, hand in his pocket, and holding his kid's hand. Doesn't LOOK like a robber. And he DIDN'T LEAVE the child in the cold car which would be a bigger news story. I agree with the above posts. Not intentional I bet.
chelsey fuhrman - Was there supposed to be a story attached?
kim vorthmann - Way to make a father and a child look like out of control criminals. We clearly don't have the whole story or as to what the father was thinking. Having two little ones myself I can see forgetting stuff. I bet if the clerk would have asked about the gas he would have paid. It didn't look like there were any other cars getting gas, why wouldn't the clerk notice?
eric bathen - Apparently Channel 6 doesn't want to remove or blur out the minors face!?!
skyler fuller - Hurting financially driving a brand new car doubt it
shelby greenapplevodka boyle - if there wasnt a young child invovled, would so many people be saying let it go? last i checked, stealing was stealing. and poor people stealing wasn't exactly uncommon...why is this okay?
jessica silverfox sorrell - we post photos of minors for Amber alerts...not to mention the little girl found wandering the other night. the little boy did not commit a crime...in fact, it may be this boy's face that helps identify the man he's with.
stephanie kaluf - Is that legal to post a picture with the underage child's face showing?
linet boyd - Why isn't this child face protected?!
leah shelly - Probably just an accident why is these being plastered all over news.
chloe parks - I haven't seen a non pre-pay pump in years.
tracy mcaleer - He doesnt exactly look like he is committing a crime on purpose. Criminals probably wouldnt wonder around the store for 20 minutes. Maybe he just forgot.
joel leighner - Or he could be a scum bag
dustin mcauliffe - If he bought stuff inside then that's not a drive off that's a missed collect. Customers get busy and distracted and assume the clerk rang up the gas. A drive off is where they never approach the register in the first place, but then again this is Sarpy county we're talking about.
amanda jo dickey - There isn't even a story... there is no information here... looks to be walking towards the gas station holding his kids hand.. door of the car wide open.. And where is there anywhere that you can still pump without sliding a card or prepay???
- Many stores are making the shift to starting their Black Friday sales on Thanksgiving. What do (Type: photo | Published: 2014-11-25T17:07:02+0000)
WOWT 6 News: Many stores are making the shift to starting their Black Friday sales on Thanksgiving. What do you think of this change, and are you going to shop on that day?Comments:
lou montalvo - Im happy to say that my employer Nebraska Furniture Mart is not one of these retailers who will be opening on thanksgiving. Show your support for black friday by boycotting all the retailers who are open on thanksgiving and spend your money at The Mart instead ;-)
lauralee finley post - I think it is greedy, and stupid. I will NEVER take part in it.
ann mornin frink - Nah! I will be too busy stuffing my face with delicious food, watching football, and spending time with my family.
dave mccarrison - No, everyone should be home with their families.
julie casper - It isn't the retailer's fault - if shoppers didn't show up they wouldn't open.
liz daum - It's a good idea for people like myself who work in health care and has to work on Black Friday. It gives those of us that don't have Mon-Fri, 9-5, off every holiday type of jobs, an opportunity to shop for Black Friday sales. If people don't like it, then dont go, its simple!!
kelly ruoff - I dunno. People make the choice to work for the retailers who are open on these days. Some of these folks don't mind, maybe even want to work holidays for the extra pay. I always did when I worked at the grocery store and it never bothered me. It was busy, sure, but the time went by fast and we got a free meal too.
gabi galvan - Pick up your family from nursing homes, assisted livings...... Some people don't have family.. So they shop.
daniella martinez finnegan - People say they won't, but I bet they still do!! There's a reason they open on thanksgiving.... they get hit with people!
ann goldsborough pacl - I refuse to shop on Thanksgiving!
nicky rassler - Yes I am going to shop Thursday! That's when the best deals are!! Sales don't start till around 6 and by then I am ready to ditch the family! Lol.
tonya barnes - I will NOT!!!! Black FRIDAY should only be on FRIDAY!!!! Have some respect for the people working on Thursday, just so you can save a buck.... I won't do it, ever!!!!
larry robbins - I have a lot of respect for companies that look out for their employees and give the respect to the holidays that they deserve. There are many folks who need to work on holidays...fire, police, folks who work at hospitals, security folks, folks that work at the TV stations, football games and all the folks that work at the stadium...so it's not wrong to be open on a holiday. But here is my main problem...for retailers when you require your employees to work when it is not "necessary" then that becomes a problem for me.
sally j grauf - I like it because I work Friday and since it doesn't start until evening gives plenty of family time before hand.
cindy hanson - How greedy are we? I think it is awful that people have to work on Thanksgiving. It's bad enough that hospitals, police, firemen, etc. have to work on holidays. Those are necessary jobs, but retail? Really???
cindy marie leonovicz roehr - Shame on the stores that are open. To deny employees the day of thanks with their families. It's all about greed not thanks
heather pohlmeier - I will never shop on Thanksgiving. This is a time to be with family and friends, not out shopping so you can save a few dollars.
shannon yager-jones - Shame shame...not a chance I'll shop. I'll be with family and friends! Cheers ¤
maritza gallardo-covarrubias - Dont see why not. "Time with family and giving thanks" shouldnt be done only once a year. I need things any time of the year i will shop for what i need. I dont need a holiday excuse to be thankful or to be with family
sandy clark hazlett - No... People should be able to spend the day with friends/family... Corporate greed is at the root of this issue... Sad :(
kathy brown - Greed unbridled. I will not shop of Thanksgiving or on Black Friday. I am renewing my Costco membership simply because they will not be open on Thanksgiving.

- Omahans added their opinions Tuesday in the national response to the decision not to indict a M (Type: link | Published: 2014-11-26T00:25:20+0000)
WOWT 6 News: Omahans added their opinions Tuesday in the national response to the decision not to indict a Missouri police officer in a fatal shooting.Comments:
joyce hudson - I was going to say that if they read the reports on the evidence or listened last night to the statement, then they would know that Mr. Brown did NOT have his hands raised in surrender. But they heard it, read it and don't care. The decision to not indict is not what they wanted so now everyone is throwing a temper tantrum like a bratty little kid because they didn't get their way. They all need a major time out!!!
paola zepeda - I just hope people in Omaha keep it civil unlike others across the nation. Omaha is a beautiful place let's keep it that way!
wade pease - Body cams? Really? That will cost us hard-working, non-law-breaking, tax payers more money when we already pay high taxes to cover all the low life people who don't have jobs and rob banks for a living. Here's a clue..... Don't break the law, NO MATTER WHAT RACE YOU ARE, and we wouldn't have to be constantly hearing this crap on the news and/or social media. GROW UP PEOPLE!!
tim risk - Well there was a camera in the store the thug stole from and roughed up the owner and they want to act like that didn't happen so why cameras now?
scott lustgraaf - Body cams should be demanded by everyone, to protect both police and the public. With independent monitoring.
abby delong - Idea. Don't rob a place. Second idea. Don't punch a cop in the face and go for his gun. Third idea don't charge the cop when he's already shot at you.
john whitehead - Body cams on all citizens too........LOL, what a moron. :)
michelle woodrich - Seriously, in the famous words of Frozen, "let it go".
lory van tilburg - Parents need to be better role models for their kids...teach them to obey the law.
cindy bryant - If he had not robbed just moments earlier and followed the officers orders, I would bet money he would be alive.
sandy eckert - People please look at the evidence it's all there. This behavior has to stop. I feel for his parents and I would feel the same way but it's not about race it's about this officer doing what he was trained to do, protect. I think the media needs to back off as well, sometimes I think they make these things worse. And Mr. President you aren't helping the situation either!
kyle cochran - WHAT ABOUT NICOLE BROWN SIMPSON?!?!?! Is it too late to riot?!?! Oh wait no, that'd be one of the dumbest things we could possibly do!
shane wilcoxen - maybe dont act like and do criminal things? cooperate with the police? hmmmmmm??????
brandon scherer - How about a PANTS UP DON'T LOOT sign instead?
logan kelly - Body cams are the only way to protect the people and the cops..
samantha flynn - Can we protest their protesters destroying their beautiful town?
lisa flores - I think all of this could have been avoided first if Michael wouldn't have stolen by force and then if he did hold up his hands he also went to his knees and to the ground he would have been arrested but still alive..I agree that police officers need to wear a camera with audio as a required part of the uniform.. Now looters are taking advantage of a vulnerable community..Ferguson needs to take back their town.. any further looting is no longer about Michael Brown it's about their own selfish needs.. This destruction just causes more pain and will not bring Michael back or to change the courts decisions .. I pray that Ferguson find peace.. We need to learn from Ferguson and not continue their pain else where..peace
anthony g. wheeler - Bellevue , Omaha are already transitioning these into use.
Camera or no camera comply with the police officer and you'll either be going to jail or you'll be on your way home.
rob daniel - Omaha has nothing to do with this, dumb.
bryce jelinek - If he would've listened to the officer this all would've been avoided!

WOWT 6 News: BREAKING: Police are investigating a second West Omaha robbery along Q Street. We have a crew at the scene and will kick off our newscast live with the latest.Comments:
seth hayden - get your CCW !! stand up to these thugs
kimberly a shady - This is getting ridiculous
tony prange - And who the hell robs a DQ in the wintertime? Idiots.
sue cubrich ludwick - Donuts this morning and ice cream tonight. Crook must have a sweet tooth. Glad no one was hurt. Seriously get a job! Hope they catch these criminals and throw the book at them. We have to be tougher on crime!
april kaufman stierman - You have to be an idiot to break into some place literally two blocks from a police station. These robberies are getting out of hand. Hope they get caught!
lindsey vinsonhaler - Yep, CCW time...I'm on Q!
jacob safarik - Well, I live way too close to this...they can come taste my .45 after their ice cream.
kenneth waters - What is the city of Omaha doing about the sudden rash of robberies?
zach smart - I had my car broken into last night at 108th and Q. This stuff is getting out of control.
kelly morford beins - Right by the police station too
steph j bertelsen - Dang this is part of the reason y I can't live in Omaha
tiffany haecke - wtf. why are they doing this crap. get a job and make money instead of robbing.. my goodness stay away from the millard area. millard has been a great area dont wreck it.. get a life robber's
josh hust - what if the employees had a weapons permit, and carried? think those robberies would slow down a bit? (if not, we'd have some stupid, shot up, would-be bandits)
mike mikulicz - They try breaking into my home they got a 12 gauge with buck shot waiting for them along with a 45 and 9 mm so sick of these thugs
revjay feldmann - I live near this area and will be loading every 9mm clip I own.
tom endthefed cudney - This is why I carry a firearm... Because cops are just too heavy and they're always 10 minutes too late to save a life anyway...
laurie dooley-patrick - Every robbery is too close to someone's home, no matter the neighborhood. They need to catch these people. I believe it's just a handful if people doing this and if someone turns them in, this will all stop. But nobody wants to do that even when someone dies. Really sad.
stephan kiepke - Keep it going west. They can afford to give more.
carrie miller grove - And just blocks from the police station.
traci vandenberge - Eric Collins right by your old place
jen mcmanis - Did they ever catch the guys that robbed the bank downtown blocks from the police station?

WOWT 6 News: Omaha Police are searching for suspects after a man robbed the Walgreens off 156th & Q.Comments:
khara hill perman - I was there with my 8 year old twins. There were 4 other CHILDREN there as well. We had to hide in the bathroom. So scary but glad we are all ok.
missy schmader - Bunch of theives why dont they get off their butts and acually work like everyone else has to bunch of losers!!
steve jensen - That's to close to home!
beau caddell - Rudy Giuliani was able to drop the crime rate in New York by being tougher on smaller criminals. Catch the little fish before they become big fish. That approach could work well here. That being said, the a approach needs to be paired with community out reach. Kids need more to do instead of falling in with the wrong crowd. Educate and motivate. A robbery everyday and home invasion every night is getting a little ridiculous.
don scotter - What are we going to have to do? Stop accepting and keeping cash at stores? Put all bank employees behind protective glass? Actually maybe if a few of these punks met an immediate unfortunate end that would stop the rash of daily robberies.
cipriano rompe cabezas gabia - & they say only in south & north..
mike walker - Shoot a few. It will stop
cindy uhl zielinski - WAY TOO CLOSE TO HOME
holly fink - I think people are just losing their minds! This stuff is happening like everyday now what is going on...
mike whitten - Omaha be full of vigilantes
ly price - I think there has been an armed robbery every day for the last 3 weeks. Harsher punishment for re-offenders. Most that have been caught have a rap sheet. This is getting a a little scary....
karyn moran - Hope they catch whoever it is. Thieves suck.
apc perez - Whats with all this robberies? Its getting out of control.
kaylee rasmussen - Shantel R Maguire good thing we stuck with cvs tonight!
leaha marie watkins - Elijah Fritz told you
allyson taylor genereux - So crazy. I was going to stop there on the way home from work around 7:15. Instinct told me not to. I am glad I didn't.
jacki maynard - Shootings everyday in the summer, robberies everyday in the winter. So sick of it. Smh...
megan hernandez - Natalie Hartung-Bundy
dolores ann livingston - omg this is just disturbing :'( ... this is close to home as two of my children work there
betty harrington - what is going on?thisis happening to much.
nicole rafe gonzales - This is right across the street from my daughter's school.
- Room and board costs at UNL are going up. Incoming students can expect to pay $10,310 a year s (Type: photo | Published: 2014-11-21T15:00:54+0000)
WOWT 6 News: Room and board costs at UNL are going up. Incoming students can expect to pay $10,310 a year starting in 2015. Adding in the cost of tuition and books, is a college degree still worth the expense? wowt.com/a?a=283480861 #watchWOWTComments:
dave mccarrison - $1100 a month to live in the dorms? To share a room with several others? What a scam. Live off campus and share a 2 br apt and save a ton of cash. This is ridiculous.
patrick grundman - Simple option, go to a junior college for two years. Then transfer to a four year like wayne/Peru state. Make it as cheap as possible
katie wilson - If they raise room and board, they had BETTER get better toilet paper.
allen michael bentley - College is a scam! They are sucking the life and financials out of students and then expecting them to pay 40,000 + in student loans. That's significantly more than a downpayment on a house. Absolutely ridiculous. We need more jobs that have on site training and don't require a FULL 4 year degree. We are putting our young people in extreme debt before they even grow up!
priscila gonzales rosales - How do they expect us to get an education when its so expensive..not everyone has rich parents to pay for school
crystal renee - And they wonder why student loans are outrageous! That is crazy...
derek colledge - D@mned if you do, d@mned if you don't.
jack yerton - For a house payment, you too can live in a crappy dorm at UNL.
damian harouff - Skipped college, became self-employed, make six figures a year in fields that will never stop growing. I guess college is for some people, but I'd say it's not worth it.
kimberly wilson - Part of the problem is that employers have started thinking that people with college degrees will make better employees, which just isn't true.
There are lots of smart, hardworking people out there who for financial or personal reasons didn't do a four year degree, but they get passed up by people with the initials behind their name. I really feel for people in their fifties trying to find a job because going to college wasn't so important then. These people have the same knowledge and life skills but don't even get interviews because they don't have the degree.
That attitude needs to change too. People can be trained, employers need to commit to doing it.
danielle schulz - Not to mention the outrageous interest rates on loans. Back in the day it was 1 or 2% but now 7-9%. These kids will drown in interest and payments.
blake reikofski - When did colleges become the worst offending slumlords in the country?
ben brandt - Ha, that 40k just to stay and eat at UNL for 4 years is more than what I paid for my bachelor's degree in total. What a scam.
theresa johnson - Maybe rather than worry about immigration and allowing illegals stay in the country Obama could override congress and lower interest rates on student loans and help out his own American legal citizens!!! Sorry for ranting just saying.
theresa johnson - Love UNL but neither of my children went there. You can get a cheaper education somewhere else and employment prospects don't look at the college you attended when hiring. Room and board and tuition does not need to cost that much!! My son went out of state and still paid less than UNL.
jaime spedden - More and more places in Europe are making college free. More and more places in the US are raising the rates to go to college. And we wonder why the world thinks we can't get our act together...
audra c mynster - Price of education is outrageous! A person fresh out of school shouldn't owe over $50,000 in loans. I'm 35 and still paying on mine. I pay more on my student loan every month than I do for my car payment plus insurance on two newer vehicles. It's ridiculous!
charlie wessel - As a recruiter, the answer is still a resounding yes.
However, be sure to pick a major that has solid job prospects after graduation.
kristine ruff - Technical degrees are the way to go.
brenda christoffersen - It is ridiculous, especially since they make incoming freshman that do not currently live in Lincoln, stay in a dorm. After my daughter's freshman year she moved into an apartment and even with paying rent and utilities for a 12 month lease (she is only there for 9 months, but we pay through the summer), food and the extra in gas she uses, we come out ahead. Thank goodness she graduates in May :)
kristin kroaky walker - how about go to college when you know what you actually wanna do and NOT just for the basics. that's a waste of money. do a TRADE school. live off campus.
- President Obama is to announce Thursday he is sidestepping Congress with his own action on immi (Type: photo | Published: 2014-11-20T15:56:47+0000)
WOWT 6 News: President Obama is to announce Thursday he is sidestepping Congress with his own action on immigration, shielding millions illegally in the United States from deportation. What do you think of the president's plan? wowt.com/a?a=283347781 #watchWOWTComments:
maria victoria mendoza - #isupportmypresident Some US born Americans are quick to judge and label others. I am pretty darn sure each and everyone of you have an immigrant in your family but you are too selfish and naive to understand that!
ryan batt - I always have to wonder why it's never okay for President Obama to do the same things past Presidents have. Both President Reagan and President H.W. Bush did nearly the same thing, and yet there was much less uproar. I contribute it to the fact that Fox News and Drudge Report have made today's Republican much more hate filled, and ignorant than Republicans of the 80's and 90's.
deb hayes - It makes good sense! Republicans will of course, hate it just because the President is using his Executive power to get something done. Look at all the positive aspects of this. We are a country of mixed ethnic origins. As long as they are working and paying taxes, why not welcome them to our country. They come here with hopes and dreams of a new and better life for their families. The method of entering the country illegally is out of desperation. If an immigrant comes to live in America to commit crimes and not work, then, by all means deport them back to their homeland. But punishing immigrants for seeking a better life in America is not the answer. Unless you are a Native American, you are an ancestor of immigrants. Immigrants are who built this nation. "Give me your tired, your poor, restless masses yearning to be free." Have we lost sight of our history? We should be welcoming people who wish to come and work and live free as our ancestors before us. Thank you Mr. President for taking charge and doing what needs to be done. Something Congress has failed to do!
john scott stevens sfg ii - Imagine you live in a neighborhood with plenty of empty homes and apartments available waiting to be bought or rented, yet a family of strangers illegally sneaks into YOUR home and takes over a corner of your house.
They consume resources you get billed for such as heat, water, electricity and park in your driveway but they don't contribute financially to your extra expenses or the maintenance of your home.
At first it's annoying but you can live with it. (Apparently you're a saint.)
They start to sneak their friends and relatives into your house and they begin having children. As their family grows more of them are living in your home and they demand for you to make significant changes to accommodate their wishes such as providing books and entertainment in their language that suits their culture.
Pretty soon you simply can't sustain the extra costs. Your house is falling apart and in need of repair and you begin to feel like a stranger in your own home.
When you ask them to leave and apply to legally move into a space of their own you are are called a racist and there are protests. Then the president enacts an executive order preventing you or anyone in your situation from evicting such uninvited guests.
It's kind of like that.
david clark - When are all the white people going to be deported back to England?
rosales brenda - America without illegals would be nothing""""""
verne griffin - He should be deported himself.
claudia chavarria - Everyone commenting on immigrants sitting on welfare get the facts "illegals" arent qualified to recieve anything they cant get any kind of benefits but when those "illegals" work and at the end of the year guess what?? They pay taxes.😯😯 shocking?. If anyone here is not NATIVE AMERICAN then guess what you all form part of immigrants.
brooke bynum - I applaud President Obama in finally realizing that republicans will never do what's right for our country. He is amazing!
megan cloyd - I don't understand how he can keep going around congress like this.. So sad that he hasn't been held accountable for disregarding the constitution for so long..
jeff roby - Slap in the face of the people who became citizens the right way. Never believe you should reward people who do things the wrong way. Just encourages others to do it.
daniel r sutton - I think he should be impeached for overstepping the limits of his authority. That's just me though.
bob neussendorfer - It's a shame that our immigration problem has come to this...on the other hand, it's kind of fun to see all the Obama haters heads exploding.
claudia chavarria - Hayley Nicole Beck.. where do "illegals" get financial aid? What school do I can go apply?. Because I remember I did pay out of pocket to go to college.
david clark - I still think its funny how people overlook the fact at how this land wasn't even theirs to begin with but murdering innocent people and stealing their land and telling people who can and can't come here is ok 👍👍👍👍👏👏👏
timothy hokanson - It's awesome! So many don't realize how many illegals came here as kids without a choice. I've spent time with families and in communities struggling to make ends meat. Great people who work hard. Becoming a citizen isn't affordable to everyone so they have no choice but to risk everything. It will be nice to know that those families won't have to live in fear of being separated from their families. Plus, the illegals I met work hard and don't accept free money. Just because there's a few bad illegals that want a free ride, doesn't mean they all do, nor should they all be treated as such.
susan parr - I immigrated in the legal way. My parents before I was born were going to Canada. You had to have chest X-rays. It turns out that my father had TB, he had caught on the medical wards and therefore was not able to enter Canada at that time. Which makes a lot of sense. I do not understand why people that come illegally feel that they should have rights to become legal citizens with out going through the proper channels. Most people did immigrate to America but they had to go through lots of hardships to come in the legal way. For example Ellis Island.
tarilyn miller hall - Meanwhile
He also defends and supports people
Who kill our cops.....our country is Going to hell in a hand basket.
tim risk - We are all illegals in this land except the people this land was stolen from
nick garaycochea - My parents were Hispanic and immigrated LEGALLY, and for that decision, I am very proud of.
johnnie yarber - Give them all SSI numbers so they can pay more taxes like me! Don't deport them not to many people here want to work!

WOWT 6 News: Breaking News: Bank Robbery & Shooting in the area of 87th & West Center. wowt.com/a?a=283360681Comments:
brian hughes - It's getting to where you have to stand in line to get in line to rob a bank around here
kimm poth - I wonder if the news stations realize that when they report a bank robbery and people see that it goes unsolved that it encourages more people to do the same. It makes it seem easy.
angela long - It's getting close to Christmas I guess it's bank robbing season
erin maguire olson - With all these robberies, I would be asking for hazard pay if I worked at a bank!!
jerry nicholas - Move to Omaha where you can get shot or watch a robbery every day
zach gaines - They keep singling out the banks without armed guards but the banks will still not do anything about it we can't take our own legally owned and right to carry guns in the bank but they won't pay someone to do it.
mike leach - Correct me if i am wrong is this the 4th or 5th bank robbery this week?
steven smith - Tell ya what I pity the fool who breaks into my home invades my families privacy. There will be no mercy shown
christopher greenawalt - Dont banks have guards?
jared hays - Thought guns were illegal to have inside all federal buildings and banks....oh wait just okay for the Crim's...
lori silvernail - the OPD put our school on minimal lockdown. not an email i ever want again. i was proud our school took the precaution on this.
christine schellhardt - So is Omaha trying for a new world record? Most bank robberies in a holiday season? I mean seriously.
david wichman - Kimm Poth, it's not the media's fault for reporting the news. The fact you said that is astonishing. Or do we now blame the media for all continued crime? Maybe if we gave life in prison or executions to all bank robbers that would stop it. The reason they don't stop, is because if you are caught the penalties are minimal.
miraha wilson - Police have a house surrounded at a home invasion on 85th and layfette
ausha kirby - What else is new
jay studd - you people are dumb..... the money in banks are insured......do you really want armed guards and bank robbers shooting at each other while you get caught in a crossfire?? that's why bank protocol is give them the money and get them out of the bank quickly so NOBODY DIES.....
julio navarro - Banks needs armed security guys
lori ann johnson - Uuuuhhhhh. Measure out the problem need a job. Is it worth going to jail. No I do not think so. Get off your a-- and go to work. You need money go to work. That is other peoples life savings in the bank. Not yours do not take
teresa masters - Jessica Hetzel dr mac office??
erick cid - I'm here in front of the crime he's in the cop car
nathan duffy - Cody McDaniel still think we dont need armed security in banks? this is what, the 10th bank robbery this month?
- What are your thoughts on the President's immigration plan? (Type: link | Published: 2014-11-21T04:39:21+0000)
WOWT 6 News: What are your thoughts on the President's immigration plan?Comments:
terri petersen - Great speech & great plan, it's time!!!
ed gonzalez anguiano - It's funny how people can't see that America was built by immigrants. The very first immigrants came from Europe and settled here to make better life. American that do not support president Obama needs to wake up! Their roots come from over seas...
ryanne marshall - It's a slap in the face to all those who legally entered this country!
joyce petit - Send them home to come back the legal way. Don;t reward criminals that sneak into our country or we will have millions more flocking in. Taxpayers are sick of supporting them. If they work their money goes back to Mexico and not back into our economy. Use the laws already on the books and deport them.
葉張 - As a legal immigrant who paid many fees and waited many years, we should not be handing illegal immigrants treats. They need to work with to become legal, pay the fees like we paid, go back to their countries and do it the legal way. its not easy but it is worth it in the long run. We don't have to worry about being deported or not working. It is the right thing to do.
andy tingwald - they can all stay.. just have them pay back taxes and Social Security owed
rose vera - Our Just President has spoken, and I am very pleased with his decision.
carol falconer - So happy for the children who don't have to worry about their parents being deported.
rob eckel - Words from a wise man#breaking President Obama interrupts a few million obese Americans from their cheeseburgers, tin foil hats, and television to talk about loving thy neighbor. Yokels everywhere scream with ignorance and hatred in their true Christian form.
brandi diaz - This is why he got my vote. Thank you President Obama for understanding the American dream. No more will I hear horror stories of babies coming home from school to find their parents gone.
Republicans in the house think if they stall and cry long enough they will get their way. Not this time.
bi nguyen - Let's be honest here. Whatever President Obama does, the right will always be outrage. Even if in this case, executive actions on immigration have been done before by past presidents. But of course...impeach Obama!!! [insert sarcasm here]
dan pawlowski - If the government would hold businesses accountable and fine and close businesses down that hire illegals/undocumented workers the incentive to come to the States would be removed. The politicians of both major parties won't do that because they would lose the source of big money that lines their pockets!
beatrix bea cramer moore - I pettitioned legally almost10 years ago for my brother to immigrate from Germany to the United states and he still has not gotten his green card we received a letter of approval and been waiting for over 2 years now for his nr to come up so he can finally be here with us ! Guess he should have just come over illegally and get amnesty
aaron case - What a joke, it's like watching the fall of Rome all over...
brian cottage - Again the Traitor had spoke.... Let's see what else he can Destroy what took centuries to build
bill sobotka - Why should anyone who entered illegally be here or be allowed to stay? They broke the law people!
tyrel frazier - Theodore Roosevelt issued and signed 1,081 executive orders during his 8 years as president, Woodrow Wilson signed 1,803. John F. Kennedy issued 214 in the 2 and a half years he served. When congress won't make decisions, it's the presidents job to do something. They can't just sit in deadlock, that's exactly how governments shut down...
sami pitts - This has my full support
jeff barnes - Ridiculous. Make it easier for people to be here legally - don't make it easier for illegals to be here.
felicia conway korengel - So, what I'm gathering from these comments is we have a LOT of people who have a STRONG negative opinion on the President's plan who did NOT listen to the plan and are just mad because of talking points someone else spewed. Got it....same old, same old.
edwin herry - deport all the criminals and gangbangers.

WOWT 6 News: A 3-year-old girl was found wandering the street alone at 23rd and Polk just after 1 a.m. wowt.com/a?a=283167201Comments:
jessica lakner - It was just reported that the child is still with the police. I'm sure the parents are unaware and are in for the worst period in their lives. Have YOU ever awoke and your child isn't in their bed...where they're supposed to be? Pray for them instead of criticizing. You don't know the whole story!!!
mandy reed - Guys here we go again thinking the worst of everyone. How do you know the parent or parents where not hurt? What if the kid sleep wAlks and parents did not wake up. So many things but this world is so negative.
cheryl schrad johnson - Let's just all thank God that someone saw her before she died of exposure!
eric conley - Was the baby slanging crack....1am!!! Sleep walking or not as a parent you hear everything!!!! No excuse for a 3 year old in the streets at that time of night and it cold!!! NONE!!!
tanya warren - So many morons quick to jump to conclusions...who obviously don't have children...lots of kids sleep walk at this age...3 year olds can work an iPad these days...so I'm sure they can figure out how to unlock a door...if she was wandering...its obvious the cops have no clue where she lives. I know of a family that had to put alarms on all of the doors because their 3 year old would get out in the middle of the night...so before rushing to judgment...at least wait for the facts!
karen baxter - The parents probably don't even know she is missing yet. It's time for locks up high!
kelly kalin - Same age my kid started sleep walking, just glad he never ended up outside!!
Poor child, I hope she will be OK!
jessica zarazua - U guys r so negative. . U have no idea what happened. . What if the parents were murdered or something. You people need to check your resources before you open your mouths. . Make sure you know the whole story before you pop off. .
cindy brenneman - I hate the negativity but....if you read the story this morning, the mom "dropped off" the child at a residence telling her/him to "knock for your dad"....no family member has been located nor has the child been reported as missing. Unfortunately, in this case, the negativity is right on!!!!! This is just one of the many reasons people are so negative...because scumbags like this!! Makes me sick!
jason c case - This whole toddler fitness craze has gotten out of hand. Yes let's fight childhood obesity, but let's do it responsibly. My friend Brian Pfeffer has developed a three point program involving smoothies, pet fish, and sleeping street dogs. It's guaranteed to keep your toddler fit and trim without necessitating middle of the night workouts.
al kayda jada - Where is cps when they are actually NEEDED
leno ayala - Just watched, additional information says the parents are unknown at this point. Hope they are ok.
christie coltrin-romero - Wow scary!! Let's all jump to conclusions now and say the parents are on drugs or they are low life's. I remember when twin girls escaped their home in the middle of the night while their parents slept, happened around 13th and Dorcas if I remember correctly
tenaha patterson - No 3 year old is strong enough or tall enough to open a window or door toddler proofed. Additional locks should be above the height of the kid standing on a chair at least. Commonsense. I sick of parents blaming their kids. And that is what you apologists do when you point the finger at the kid that is really on the verge of knowing better but not quite and give all kinds of excuses to why very small children are found: dead in a pool, dead in the middle of south 36th st, at the bowling alley across the street stuck inside claw machines, or wandering the neighborhood in hypothermia type temps at 1 am in the morning knowing the caregiver or parent is the ONLY ONE responsible. No tale I've ever heard of among my mom's siblings of which there were nine. Losing or forgetting children is trending. Rationalized as parents will be parents to make themselves feel better and shun blame. It happens "all the time". NOT.
nancy line jacobs - When I was little, I broke out of the house while my parents were sleeping more than once. If it was summer, I was probably naked, too. Let's see what happened before we judge.
amy warner sindelar - The majority of rude and criticizing comments are from MALES! Mothers understand things can happen and have empathy. Our first thoughts are focused on the safety of the child, not the parents. Think outside the box. The parents could be dead in the house.
stefanie teegarden - Glad the child isn't hurt
lynn groenjes - Years ago my neighbors daughter slipped out of the house she was about 3 her parents one was almost deaf and the other slept hard. They had no idea the girl was not in her bed. Lucky she came to my house rang the bell this was midnight and of corse startled I ran to the door and looked out and here she was. I asked her does your mom know your here and she sweetly said yes she sent me for a can of soup. So I called mom and asked why did she send this baby down at midnight for a can of soup. She replied my god she's suppose to be in bed. Frantic she came down and got her. Now what would have happened if she just wandered off. Sorry to say this happens and it is not always the parents fault. It's tragic and it shouldn't happen. Thank God she wasn't hurt or killed this is a bad time for all.
tiffany ryan - Don't underestimate the toddler's strength either. They will pull things like chairs over to help them unlock locks.
tara swanson - Nice reporting WOWT!!

- A property owner in Minden, Nebraska has removed a sign that read "AIDS Ebola Obama, Thanks Afr (Type: photo | Published: 2014-11-19T15:21:19+0000)
WOWT 6 News: A property owner in Minden, Nebraska has removed a sign that read "AIDS Ebola Obama, Thanks Africa." Some residents complained that the sign was distasteful and portrayed Minden in a bad light. Others say the man has a right to express his opinion on private property. What do you think? Bad taste? Racist message? Freedom of speech? wowt.com/a?a=283194751 #watchWOWTComments:
wowt 6 news - It could be perceived as racist by thanking Africa for Obama when he was born in the United States.
jenn kreitz-couch - I think he definitely has freedom of speech especially on his own property but that doesn't mean that I don't get the right to think he's an uneducated, racist, fear-monger.
jenny mackling hanson - I don't care if you Like or dislike any president at least show respect...
marshall kole - If you don't have anything nice to say, don't take the time to paint a ridiculous sign to say it at all.
garrett karls - Haaaa so true it's a beautiful sign. I'm about to copy it. And I live in North Omaha
christina torres - First let me say that I am not racist. I am not going to argue with anyone. Im just going to make a simple point. I can't conclude that this man is racist or uneducated for that matter neither. He stated nothing derogatory about another race. Ebola came from Africa, AIDS did come from Africa, and supposedly Obama did too. It's no different than people posting the same type of "Oh we got 5 inches of snow....thanks Obama" messages on FB, Twitter, or whatever. WOWT should be ashamed of themselves for trying to make a racial issue where there shouldn't be. Look up the definition of racism before you throw that word out there.
jimmy rowe - I'm missing something. What part of this message is "racist"? If a white person is critical of a black person over what they said or did, it's "racism". But when black people were burning images of Bush-43 following the Katrina disaster, they were "justified"??? The sign has no reference to race at all, and the people who think it's subliminally racist need to grow up!
laureen mally - I think he is an ignorant, raciest, uninformed and all out stupid pig, but his yard, if he wants to show his stupidity in bold print, let him.
mitch roy - Bad taste and freedom of speech.
lindsay jenney - Diamonds, homo erectus and homo sapiens, Pyramids, first cultivated crops, gold, platinum -Thanks Africa
johnny criss - How is it racist? Aids originated in...Africa. Ebola originated in...Africa
Obama originated from...you guessed it, Africa! His dad was born there, he has family there and even visits them.
kayla espinoza - That's the problem with this country. Everyone seems to be offended by everything. Boo hoo. If you don't like it, don't look at it. Bunch of cry babies!
bobby burk - And wowt 6 news....do you have proof he was born here? Yea.....Nobody does.
jean mcfarland thompson - Why does everyone have to assume disliking Obama is a racist thing ????? I am sick to death of hearing that !!!! I Hate the man but I am in no way a Racist !!!!!!!!
justin james podany - Private property. ...First amendment protection....I'd say that's constitutional. And its not illegal to be racist. Its illegal to violate others civil rights...
kathy van cura - And then they wonder why no one wants to live in Nebraska! Makes us all look like a bunch of backward, bigoted, closed minded racists!
matt oberle - Go ahead and put up signs like this. It helps the rest of us know who is really crazy.
erica butler - Bad taste surely, Racist, probably, but above all, idiotic. Sure everyone has a right to their own opinion, but we also have the right to tell you that your opinion sucks and you're a moron.
leaha marie watkins - Aids and ebola is not from africa you are not smart do your research. Do you even actually know people from africa? have you ever talked to a nigerian? Americans are not nice thats why every country hates us. Do you honestly think every single country hates us for no reason? No what we do is go terrorize other places. And then turn it around it say it was them. Our people go and inject places with disease so that they can find cures for different diseases and if they don't work they lie and say that they didnt do it. Duh there not gonna blow there cover and make themselves look bad. America is just as bad as anywhere eles there just more evil and do it undercover. Even our bills have demonic words and symbols on them dont believe me look up the words on the bill that are in latin that is enough for me to know they lie.
Money hungry is a real thing. Hate to break it to you
vi washington - Everyone has their own opinion. Every race, nationality, etc has those who bring pride and those who bring shame. I choose not to be offended by this or give it power over me because it is not directed towards me. I will keep any negative thoughts to myself. An opinion is just that if you don't give it power over you.
james henry mau - I wonder what the sign would say if Bush was still in office. People can say whatever they want. I remember when Bush was criticized the response was that the person was unpatriotic and the office demanded respect. Funny how times change.
- A New Jersey judge will issue a decision on a family's lawsuit over the Pledge Of Allegiance. (Type: photo | Published: 2014-11-19T16:58:32+0000)
WOWT 6 News: A New Jersey judge will issue a decision on a family's lawsuit over the Pledge Of Allegiance. The atheist family claims the pledge is discriminatory and offensive because it contains the word "God." The school district wants the lawsuit dismissed because students aren't required to say the pledge and therefore aren't treated unequally. wowt.com/a?a=283208261 #watchWOWTComments:
lee holiday - so if all the students aren't allowed to say the Pledge because one student finds it discriminatory, wouldn't the students that wanted to recite the Pledge be discriminated against now?
jenny stoll - I, too, am an atheist but I am appalled that this is an actual story. The Pledge of Allegiance is meant to be recited so we will take pride in our COUNTRY not the religion of the majority. I had to say it every day in school as a kid and could care less that I was saying "under God" because that wasn't the point. Say those words if you truly believe in them, otherwise don't, but we should be recognizing that we are united as a country no matter what.
paola zepeda - People need to stop this nonsense! Get over yourselves! Stop teaching your kids to be stuck up and be brats because things don't go your way. Instead teach them to respect others and their beliefs. We can all coexist if people stop being so stubborn and narrow minded.
jamie krussel - The student could just omit the "under God" part themselves. It's really not much different than a Catholic reciting the Lord's prayer at a protestant service. The protestant version of the prayer has that extra phrase at the end, so most Catholics just omit it if they're at a protestant service. Nobody gets crabby about it. Sometimes things can be easily resolved without a lawsuit.
jeremy beaverson - Home school your children if you don't like it. Your children are not required to recite. I suppose you want the currency overhauled to remove in God we trust.
william whiteley - "I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
traci case - I'm So Sick of this, shouldn't even be questioned! Don't like it don't come here! No Other Country can u go into & try to change their ways, hence Y Everyone comes to America. But BS Anyone thinks we Should Change our American Ways to Accommodate all, Again don't like it Find Elsewhere to live! And anyone of ya coming from elsewhere Knows that if we American's came to their Country trying to change it to Accommodate us would b laughed out of the country, so y Does Anyone think its OK to do here in America???
renee acker - It discriminates me as a Christian that we can't say the Pledge of Allegiance at a public school. Can I sue for that? Don't like it, don't say it!
nancy jefferson - Go live somewhere else. I am getting so sick of all the nonsense. Aren't there enough really BIG problems in the world without this kind of mess. SIGH
juan pablo - Its the word god! Not a specific religions version of a god. It could be budda, it could be the christian version of god, could be allah. Its a generic name. Some people have nothing else better to do with their lives i swear. The frivolous lawsuits have gotten completely out of hand.
karen murray - This is America! We need to stop bowing to those who want to change us. If you don't like it, get out!
melani carlson - Under God was added during the Red Scare when there was a fear that we would all become commies if we didn't believe in God. The original didn't have that phrase in it.
ricky juarez - I challenge that family then to take all the money in their wallets, purses & bank accounts and destroy it in public, because it has the word God on it so that has to offend them too! If they won't then they are hypocrites!! Oh by the way, the federal courts have God in their federal emblems so they can't follow their ruling cause the courts must offend them and the judges took an oath with "so help me God" so they are offensive to the complainants and should not follow their decisions....hypocrites!!
michelle tordoff - I'm tired of people being offended. If you don't like it, don't participate. End of story. You don't make the world change because you're a cry baby and have to have things your way. I had two Jehovah's Witnesses in my grade school. They simply did not participate in the pledge. Never once did their parents try to ban the other students from saying it.
tim browning - No one is forcing them to say the pledge...so like it said it really isn't breaking any rights.
mark mitchell - How about they just recite it as it was originally before god was added to it?
ben brandt - The response we need to see would look something like this: "You're atheist? Good for you. Now get the f'k over yourself and quit wasting everyone else's time. Case dismissed."
denise dutton burns - Why should Christian rights be less important than an atheist? Don't like it, don't say it, but why should they get to tell my kid they can't? So sick of this stuff.
paulandkelly weber - One Nation Under God
laura rosso - We live in the US Pledge Of Allegiance should be said in the classrooms if that one doesnt want to participate just listen until the rest of the class is done!!! Whats the big deal!!
katie gompert - If the kids aren't required to say it then why is this an issue? I am Buddhist and always have been, and when we recited the pledge in school, I just didnt say that part. I still took pride in pledging allegiance to the flag.
