WOWT 6 News: Days after crash a woman hit while unloading her car dies from her injuries. UPDATE:Comments:
angela golden-buckley - Smh.....driver changing her story already cuz she doesn't want to be another cell phone statistic. RIP JoAnne.
amanda mccoy - Nice. Now she's lying? Have a little respect for the woman you killed because your phone wasn't attached to your hand for 5 seconds. No doubt she will be charged. Mistakes happen, own up to them and don't change your story.
jenni meand myfour - Like everone talking crap has never looked away from the road for one second. Both sides need prayers not judgement.
jackie jones newman - Prayers for both families. Everyone has their opinions and I'm not saying the driver shouldn't face charges, but many of you are vilifying the driver when she probably left her house to run errands or whatever, just like the rest of us do each day. Only she made a seriously bad choice and ended up killing someone. This is a great tragedy for EVERYONE involved and hopefully everyone who reads about it learns a valuable lesson.
larae regan - So sad, but this will continue happening because phone calls, texting and everyone's own personal reasons for doing anything but keeping your eyes on the road are way more important than someone else's mother, daughter, son or any loved one who might get in the way! Why does it have to be made into a law to not do these things while driving? You should choose not to be a potential killer!
becky pluth - So sad she loses her life over a senseless driver. Doesn't matter what she was grabbing for she shouldn't of been grabbing for anything! Lots of prayers to her family and friends may she rest in peace!;(
jaime spedden - Murder is murder, no matter how it happens. Maybe if we imposed the death sentence on a few of these distracted drivers who kill people, they'd put the phone down.
sharon botos - It's horrible what a freak accident. That's why always say I love you to the ones I love because you just don't know
linda s chase - I was feeling kind of bad , thinking how the distracted driver must be feeling....BUT NOW. SHE'.LYING???? MOTOR VEHICLE HOMICIDE....I FEEL SO BAD. FOR JOANNE SMITHS FAMILY.
.MAY SHE REST IN PEACE
ruth fischer huckleberry - It's a shame because we all have been distracted at some point .. but to knowing add to the danger is unacceptable distracted driving needs stiffer ... harsher punishments... right now it's 1000.00$ fine and a year in jail and that's the max ... most people will not even get that because they have clean driving records... this needs to change . This was not an accident it was preventable by choices being made by the driver I don't call that an accident. Put the phones down ... if you drop something leave it or pull over to get it ... don't take a chance with the lives of others.
bk kissel - So sad,
I never liked that there was allowed parking on such a busy street ,that allowed travel speed of that magnitude,
rick domenge - Sad , and preventable , i see lots of drivers every day looking at devices while driving , i pray for her soul and family and hope he death is not in vain.
janine brooks - I believe this now becomes vehicular homicide? What a lesson to learn from using a cell phone. Keep them down when you are driving--everything will be waiting for you once you park or pull over. Prayers to the victim and her family. Prayers to the purpetretor--she will have a life of nightmarish memories. Thanking God I don't bother with those devices!
anthony boucher - The lady unfortunately was illeagally parked on maple unloading her groceries and all that was said about a phone was that it had dropped on the floorboard and she reached for it, when she looked back up it was too late. Will be a terrible thing to have to live with but as far as charges my opinion is that might be a stretch. Who knows crazier things have happened, it was very negligent on the drivers part thats for sure.
steve wilcoxon - I work at a toll Bridge and 50% of all people that cross are on their Cell Phones. just saying
hannah elliott - RIH Joann. We will miss you. I hope that phone call was worth it...
robin overton gibreal - Oh my, God please watch over their families.
cheri halda - Wonder if the police can get the gal's cell phone records to see if she was phone.
lynn cantu - Such a sad ending for the injured lady and such a terrible beginning for the car driver that caused this. It won't be over for her for a long time. I'm sure that she will be charged now and her life won't be the same. It was all for a moments distraction when driving! People really need to pay attention when driving and put down the cell phones! Prayers got out to the families!
candy roberts - So very sad for this lady and her family may she rest in peace. Hope the driver is punished!!!
jan nipper - Cell phone or not, there seems to be a real decline in driver awareness in Omaha, I hate crossing a busy street as a pedestrian!!

WOWT 6 News: WOWT 6 News has obtained the autopsy report on a 12-year-old boy who died after being pulled from a school swimming pool. The family's attorney says a lawsuit could be on the way.Comments:
kleigh sweetchick franklin-mccurry - If you stand for nothing you will fall for anything. There is nothing wrong with a law suit. their child lost his life AT SCHOOL for Christ sake. Nobody helped pull the boy out of the water and there's not even a full story about the incident. They don't have the answers the family needs. And not one of you paid funeral cost to complain or make a statement about them going for gold. I'm curious as to if this were one of your children. Basically your saying just let it go if this was my child I would go the whole 9 yards.
eddie cashinonahoodrat shelly - Just going to say R.I.P to my lil cousin and leave the rest in Gods hands
megan childress - All of these negative comments are really sad. This poor child died people. I'm sure he didn't just jump in if he knew he couldn't swim. Also there should have been someone there watching them. This is showing neglect in the swimming program at the school. When my brother went to school here, some kid got pushed in and was at bottom of pool and my brother pulled the kid out so this is not the 1st case I know of. People are so quick to jump to conclusion. We should be getting to to the bottom of it. The safety of the children. Prayers to the family. Such a tragedy for a mother to lose her child.
lisa lindell perezalamilla - Good!!! Idc how old he was or if he didn't know how to swim there should have been someone watching them at ALL times! He's still a child and SOMEONES child !!! I hope they get good money even though that won't replace the child, they deserve it
shellie shea - Good hope they sue ..they been shady about it all from the start ..his family deserves answers and justice
kyle yrewol - Was an autopsy necessary? Im gonna go out on a limb here and say the cause of death was drowning
dominque nunn - Ill sue to wat would you do if that was yo child
jacqueline miller pearson - This isn't the school officials faults! A lawsuit isn't going to help them any! Well financially yes but what answers does everyone expect. The kid stormed off and then jumped in the deep end how's the school suppose to just know he was going to jump in? That's like saying the workers at a bank know the exact day and time they could be robbed. Parents also she teach their children to swim!!!!!!
dominique winford - Omaha has some very ignorant citizens😳
andrea tate - People can say whatever they want about not suing OPS... but if it was your child in the care of a negligent person or organization then say what you would do or what's right or wrong! Oh but I forgot... It was just some poor lil black boy from a poor lil black family... So THAT'S the only reason why they are filing a lawsuit. I'm sure OPS has insurance to pay $1 million lawsuit! Some people are one-sided.. Sad!
kimberly morrison - I feel like the school lied it's no way they seen him jump in and pulled him out right away they were negligent and need to held responsible that baby had to be in that pool for a good while to be unresponsive and unable to resuscitate he was not noticed right away and pulled out it's. A lie and they deserve to be fired just for lieing about how they were watching and pulled him out when they seen him jump in a child has died at the hands of ill responsible teachers and the school is in cahoots telling this lie they sticking together and it's sad and scary
kleigh sweetchick franklin-mccurry - Maybe it's not about the money maybe it's about proving a point. Making a statement and making someone feel your pain. Letting OPS know you can't just say sorry and LOOK OVER the DEATH of a CHILD "being accountable"
kleigh sweetchick franklin-mccurry - Our children aren't even safe at school nowadays. This is the world we live in and a lot of your comments are sick. But if the shoe was on the other foot? The boy was old enough to have common sense not to jump in the pool knowing he couldn't swim I doubt that Is what happened. Where were the facilitators. There should be someone by a pool at all times especially with kids COMMON SENSE.
tasha mack - So I guess the ones who object never heard of pain and suffering. Let it had been your child then I supposed you be on board right? Smh....
kleigh sweetchick franklin-mccurry - My opinion the school should be sued for NOT handling a responsibility. A parent should not have to worry about things like this sending their child to receive an education
sarah marie mcglynn - Umm if my child died through anyone's fault no money on this earth will ever make it "ok"
cassie 'london' casey - Their child died while at school. What would you expect? ?
rachel paustian - All of the people on here who are placing blame on this child and talking negatively about the family make me sick. Let something happen to you child and then see how you feel. Who are all of you to judge as to why they sued. This is a tragic loss no matter what the families situation is.
renae hill - If the tables was turned the gym teacher principle and Ops would be under hot water prayers for this family
shelly brink rhodes - Why does it have to be about money. It wont change what happened or what the family went through.
camille wesson - I know two girls that goes to that school and they say that the boy was pushed in who would jump in the deep water and can't swim

WOWT 6 News: No it's not just you, it has been a fairly dry winter when it comes to snowfall. We've only seen 4.4" of snow this season and that's half an inch less than last year at this time. So let me ask you, would you like to see more snow in the next couple months or are you ok with just a little here and there? Let me know your thoughts. (on a side note, I'm not complaining about 50s in January this has been a welcomed warm up!!) - Meteorologist Jared RobinsonComments:
kevin evans - I'm fine the way it's been! I would rather have rain than the snow.
wayne phillips - I'll take rain. We're going to need the moisture.
jean mcfarland thompson - Let it Snow Let it Snow Let it Snow !!!!
susie muller - SNOW,the cold is no fun without something to play in!
jan kingery-walker - I say we had 4.4" to much. I would rather see rain over snow anyday!!!
laura schwartz wittmann - I'm good. Bring on the 70s and 80s please. 😉
nicole thomas - No snow and keep on with this nice weather
dorothy osborne - I'm just fine with the way it has been! I would just as soon not see any more snow! Spring rains will be nice!
dennis wayne johnson - I have arthritis and the warm Is wonderful
gary menard - We need a blizzard like 1975.
brad eastman - If it's going to snow I'd much rather have it now instead of in March & April.
mary gallagher - My little students know this mantra: You get what you get and you don't throw a fit. (Like we have a choice, anyway!)
sam julius - Considering we had about 10,000 inches of rain in 2014, I think we're about even..
kristina thompson - I'd like it as rain, please!
Costs less to manage that way, infiltrates the ground better, and doesn't reflect the sun.
leslie melichar - NO SNOW! Rainy spring thunderstorms will be enough moisture!
tracy hennessy colledge - Snow before the holidays...then I'm ready for spring.
ron kreutzian - What kind of a question is this?? we're in Nebraska!! Snow comes with the territory whether you like it or not!!! And there are those that rely on snow for an income....and not to mention we need the snow for moisture!! So I will take what we need!!!
daniel leu - I'd like a big snow storm or two.
Also, if you don't like it, why live here? You know what you're going to get when living in the Midwest.
carrie england - please....no more snow
bobbi jo scarpello - I want a couple feet of snow! If it is going to be cold, I want lots of snow too!
lisa a. kessler - I'd like to have one BIG Snow storm. Like 6-8 inches.
- The number of trains carrying at least one million gallons of crude oil across eastern Nebraska (Type: link | Published: 2015-01-18T21:56:29+0000)
WOWT 6 News: The number of trains carrying at least one million gallons of crude oil across eastern Nebraska each week has more than tripled since last summer.
joe knust - That's why Warren Buffett bought $44 billion worth of BNSF in 2009. Smart guy.
colleen anson - You are never going to see an entire trainload of cars derailed. The risk is a few cars derail. Known to authorities immediately for remediation. Pipeline has a leak in a rural area. Seeps into the ground until someone discovers it. I'm for keeping it on the rails.
edward christy - We were sold a fraudulent bill of goods. Pipeline would bring many many new jobs, would make us energy independent, would drop the price of gas, blah blah blah. If they had just come out and said this was a Dick waving contest between a foreign oil company and an American corporation, with politicians in either pocket, I might have had some respect for the honesty. But no. Our intelligence was insulted from day one. As for jobs, I would back the jobs provided by the railroad. Many more at stake there. Don't care about transcanada and their workforce.
thelma wascher - Gee how many of those rail cars could derail or even go boom and its all over the country side
william johnson - And people are flipping out about the pipeline when most of these people didn't know this was going on.
marilyn odvody - Good for everyone? Do you know why Canadians rejected this? Tar sand crude is the dirtiest, most polluting thing out there. It won't create jobs, it won't supply US fuel AND if it leaks the Ogalala Aquifer I'd done, contaminated past the point of recovery and we lose 25% of the food production in the US. And for what....so a Canadian company can make tons of money? Think about it.
edward christy - Don't forget all the money the politicians backing up the pipeline would lose. They all have nice houses and kids in school.
dan sterns - If only there was a safer way to transport it.... Like a pipeline..
micah laufenberg - Oil is the least of your worries, trains transport some pretty nasty stuff
dave timperley - And how many thousands of miles of pipeline are already under the ground throughout the U.S., including Nebraska.
cameron ziegenfuss - I think many of you are confused. While you nay-sayers are correct that tar sand oil is not crude oil, it's used to make crude oil. The pipeline would transport the oil to the Gulf, be converted to crude, then shipped off, likely by boat. The only difference is that instead of being converted elsewhere then shipped by train, it's transported via pipeline then converted. It may or may not slow train usage.
Also, they're are already tens of thousands of miles of pipeline in our country. This isn't a new thing. The pipeline would be built with state of the art technology. I'm not too worried about it.
It will pass and be built eventually. And I believe it will be good for everyone.
rose manley morris - David it would be the same thing our drinking water would be ruined. Wake up people
rose manley morris - I don't blame those people for not wanting to give up their land. And if there should ever become a leak in that pipe line land for miles and miles and miles would be never any good anymore.
timkaren thompson - That's why Warren and his President don't want the Keystone Pipe Line folks.
randy grassmeyer - There are already more than 20,000 miles of pipelines transporting hazardous materials and natural gas in Nebraska. Do we abandon them?
shane hoffman - Is this trying to say if we are against the pipeline it's already coming through our state anyhow so which is safer
edward christy - It will be good for canada and dirty politicians.
mike ward - Thanks to this the railroad is making a ton of money but not sure how Keystone xl is less safe.
edward christy - Waking up is a risk. Lol
jammie johnson - Let's just see how many ppl, would like to have those trains transporting oil, to be diverted somewhere else. .lol.
melissa lynn maddox - All these people complaing, hope I see you riding your bikes to work tomorrow. Can't complain if you use it but these people do anyways.
- A woman with four previous DUI convictions was arrested again Saturday night for drunk driving. (Type: link | Published: 2015-01-18T22:37:35+0000)
WOWT 6 News: A woman with four previous DUI convictions was arrested again Saturday night for drunk driving.
melissa smollen - Ha! Look at her Facebook almost every pic of her she is drinking.....go ahead an let her drive again?!?!? For real like she hasn't learned a lesson!!
bonnie- lingl- nisley - Not a surprise, they will stop you from smoking in public but DUI no problem
adam allen - Why aren't interlock systems standard safety devices on vehicles? They are cheaper than an air bag.
thomas shubert - Because nebraska drinking laws are a joke...
michael moore - 1 dui is bad enough but 5???? When does the state revoke the drivers license for good, after they kill someone?? Shame!
jessica lakner - I've been in the courtroom as a judge has announced what to expect for whatever number DUI a person has...and I'm surprised the court just doesn't hand the offenders a bottle on their way out the door
william johnson - Elect her to Congress, she would fit in.
jennifer case-zwicky - Just give her another pass. I'm sure she has learned her lesson this time.
ky christell - But lets sue Colorado over pot....
jason voecks - It's a addiction. She can't help being this way. Mary if you need support during this difficult time I'd be happy to listen.
john todd - She will probably just get a slap on the wrist.
patty ann miles-campbell - If she was in Texas she would be in jail for several years. Even if no accidents or injuries.
stephanie madison - The help she needs is jail. And to the 60yr old women back in jail, is she on the streets? No. She's where she belongs too. I'm sure your attitudes on this matter would be different if she killed one of your loved ones. I don't have an addiction problem and I don't drink and drive.
mary janel o'hara - Prime example of an ignorant adult who cant make responsible decisions so lets keep bars open 24/7/365 so we can contribute to more of this and put our loved ones at risk trying to live responsible lives. Sounds like a bright idea....NOT!!!
michele watson - If you think Nebraska is bad, how bout Missouri???? My ex-husband has had 13!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The worst punishment he has gotten was 10 days in jail and lost his license. Does anyone think he has stopped driving???? NO, he just hopes he doesn't get caught. One of his dui's was a head on collision. absolutely ridiculous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Need to get a federal law in order.
adam allen - You people should google how much money is generated in DUI cases annually.
dayna clark - What a loser. She's a threat to society and belongs in jail
richard cookie lesley - 24 hour bars here we come!
donna staberg lessig - Are they waiting until she kills someone?
leah hopson - Stupid Nebraska laws need to be more strict!!!!!!!!!
leah hopson - If she was in Virginia she would be in jail for 50yrs
- The Offutt Air Show will not be held this year. Here's why: (Type: link | Published: 2015-01-19T00:10:18+0000)
WOWT 6 News: The Offutt Air Show will not be held this year. Here's why:Comments:
steven a huffman - At least runway repairs is a need thing and a worth while reason. Troops deserve safe conditions out there.
tammy archer forrester - Why dont they charge $1 for each person or have a free will donation bucket? I would be ok with that!
sandy ireland - Why don't they just move it to Lincoln instead of canceling?
michael ciaccio - Waste of money anyway
tyler krieger - There's so many happy airmen now they don't get voluntold to work 50 hours in 3 days
nicole thomas - I love the air show
michael stanley - Starting to become a normal thing nowadays. Continue to take things away from Omaha and soon it will never be. From Aksarben,Peony Park, and even the hot air balloons that flew over part of the city during River City roundup. Smh. Sad!
kristin kroaky walker - Aw man I wanted to look at hot military men on base boooo!!!!!!!
dean stockman - That will make the cops happy...
ryan stratton - You can't call it the "Annual" show if it ain't annual.
jeff meek - That's just UN-American!
diane pratt - *sadness*
such an AWESOME weekend
jamie nicole copper - Irene Copper dang! It was so cool last year
amy berger - Sarah Michelle all good. My boys in blue will be here in August! :p
katherine pedersen - I love the air show.
brandelynne heaton - So sad! I have the perfect view from my apartment
farrin kimball stretch - So disappointing.
rick domenge - Shame , we had an amazing time at last year's show! The Blue Angels will be in Davenport Iowa and Kansas city in 2015.
courtney light - People need to research the history and reasons for air shows. And while you're offering to "fund" them with donations, look into the fuel costs alone. And then try to figure out how much it would cost to account for all the loose change and dollar bills, then get it to the treasury and have it applied to the correct funding source. If it were that easy, not to mention legal, I think that would have already been done.
daniel wishiwasfishing - Cant wait for our new republican president to take office
courtney zehner - Wow look forward to taking my son this year!):
- Update: The Omaha Police Department says 30-year-old Mary Ficenec is facing her 5th DUI charge. (Type: photo | Published: 2015-01-19T03:18:57+0000)
WOWT 6 News: Update: The Omaha Police Department says 30-year-old Mary Ficenec is facing her 5th DUI charge. http://www.wowt.com/home/headlines/288975141.htmlComments:
kristy dawson-ogden - Very sad. Easy to point fingers. Hope she gets the help she needs.
theresa johnson - If she has 4 DUI charges why isn't she in jail? Hopefully now before she kills someone.
juan camaney - White girl 5 dui and still driving , people saying she's a child of god, she needs help to recover! A poor lost soul , wtf? and the other side , a hispanic with a dui and people start saying deport them and many other things, crazy world ! Just saying
betsy lieding luce - Lock her up already before she kills someone
ben brandt - Sadly not even a permanent revocation of her license will likely curb this behavior, she needs to be locked up before she kills someone.
tracy hennessy colledge - Looks a lot different then her fb page. She's practically drinking in every picture. Sad
heather thompson-green - Nicole Papadakos,,,would you still consider her a "poor lost soul" if she had killed one of your loved ones???
ky christell - But let's sue Colorado over pot! Way to go Nebraska!
keara o'neil - omg. she needs help not some jail cell. this is a disease. how sad.
jeanette gronenthal - Prayers that she finds the help she needs!!
Just remember every1......this could b ur mother/daughter/sister/etc!! We r not in any position to judge her for her illness or her demons!!
stephanie sousa - Would people still be saying things like "she just needs help" or "she's a child of god" or "easy to point fingers" or "she's suffering" if she would have killed someone whilst driving wasted?! Where's all this outreach and compassion when other people commit crimes?
angie mayer - Why did she get the 5th one she should have been locked up along time ago. When does the judge decide to put her away after she kills someone! !!!!!!!
stewart akrin - Time for her to get some help and off the roads
dave mccarrison - Time for Nebraska to change alcohol sales based on DUIs. After a second DUI, issue a new drivers license, or state ID, with a large DO NOT SELL ALCOHOL stamp on it. Make carding everyone mandatory. Treat a second DUI offense like they are under 21. Revoke their alcohol privileges. If they do drink, charge the person who provided alcohol.
ayn dahlke taylor - For those off you saying she has a disease and needs help.... alcoholism is the "disease" driving while drunk is blatant disregard for others. She could have killed someone. She should loose her license forever and jail time. I don't care about her gender, race, age, or social standing this girl is a selfish brat.
joe garcia - She's a drunk. Most of her pics show her drinking. Now let's see if the district attorney can find his manhood, and do his job.
heather thompson-green - 30yrs old & 5th DUI?!?!?! And a convicted felon! I bet her parents are proud.
luke meiners - Maybe we should make her accountable for her actions by making her do volunteer work for victims of drunk drivers. Jail doesnt seem to work for some people. Why give her 3 meals a day and shelter on our dime? She can change the diapers of those paralyzed by drunk drivers maybe a lesson in humility might be a better option.
jo kramer - Everyone has there own story and problems, I think we should all mind our own business and leave the poor girls personal life personal and let God handle it.
phil winkelmann - Maybe she's constitutionally incapable of being honest with herself
debbie lyn elwood barber - Thinking she should probably never drink again.... ever...

WOWT 6 News: She married her husband while he was in prison. Now Chalonda Jenkins has been arrested herself.Comments:
corrine waddell - It looks like she fell asleep on a newspaper.
laura broughton - Can we just euthanize the family? In the animal kingdom when there's a bad egg, they kill it to preserve the gene pool.
chelsea dembinski - Am I the only one who thinks if you're in prison, maybe the right to marry shouldn't be allowed!!!!
Kill 4 people in Nebraska, get married, be gay and nope. No marriage for you....come on!
abbey westbrook - I know you shouldn't judge a book by its cover... But...
kaleigh forsee - How many Jenkins are there?!
linda king - Family values written all over her face...
kristen janssen - Wow... I find this SO shocking. NOT.
jen dominguez - Matching face tats! How cute!
michael gohuskers ives - We can't afford to kill the whole family off,,,,, to busy paying for there living expenses,, attorney fees,, health care ,,, Mental health care. Man now that I have typed it out,,,, those fools need to be put down
bryce vorthmann - Looks like Mike Tyson: Baking Thoda lol hahah
megan penner major - The couple that gets face tats and goes to jail together stays together?
richard ratliff - Put that whole family in the gas chamber and gas them.
andy tingwald - She's a peach, I tell ya... A PEACH
teresa hike mccaul - And we are surprised because.....? No really.. Someone tell me why we are surprised!
ken bohnenkamp - Lets fire up ol sparky
nichole david - They have a whole wing in the jail now that family
tiffany camp - 😁she looks as evil as he husband is!
bruce evans - Ohhhhhhh wow another worthless pos just kill the whole family both sides and that should clean up north o
rebecca bolli - Would this be news if not for her husband? Not condoning at all, but merely curious.
janette brungardt - Can't we just shoot anyone in or connected to the Jenkins family??
mary lutes brown - That entire family is nuckin futs!! I agree with Shellie Shea, lock them all up and throw away the key!
- BREAKING: Nebraska DHHS refuses to grant CHI Creighton Trauma Center designation. CHI statement (Type: link | Published: 2015-01-13T01:59:31+0000)
WOWT 6 News: BREAKING: Nebraska DHHS refuses to grant CHI Creighton Trauma Center designation. CHI statement says they strongly disagree with findings, and call all the deficiencies the state listed "minor."Comments:
craig galle - CHI needs to go.
shelly wright lowis - We had a terrible experience at Creighton when my husband had a motorcycle accident. Got him discharged and sent to UNMC. Incomparable care.
jennifer axtman beyer - For charging 30% more than other area hospitals, I'd expect zero deficiencies.
john livingston - That's what happens when you put profits ahead of patients and employees. They just laid off employees today. Not the same company it once was.
natalie yechout - They were messing up long before CHI. Creighton is a joke!
derek paulson - Serves them right for the scandle with blue cross blue shield. UNMC all the way!
sheila smith - The staff at Creighton saved me life! Thank you, to everyone who cared for me, in November of '08.
laurie mcgarvey - What goes around comes around!! It is called Karma. BCBS is surely snickering right now!!
judy lewis simpson - I thank God everyday my mom was taken to Creighton trauma center. 100% better care than UNMC. I am sure they will fix this.
kim vanhorn - I am seeing some politics going on here. And you don't think BC/BS is greedy? Did your premiums go down? Yep, didn't think so.
holly raymond - Awesome!!! Great news! I wouldn't want to be treated there if I was hit by a bus in front of the hospital!!
mary frederiksen brown - Go figure I wouldn't send my worst enemies to this hospital!!
eric conley - Does not surprise me at all.CHI is a joke!!!! Because of thrm I lost a baby girl and in a law suit with thrm
anne pille riha - Wow! Just wow to all the hate.
jaime garafalo peterson - Probably more about politics than care.....
janet l syslo - 2014-2015 are not good years for CHI...
nick bradley - Haha. Shouldn't have been so greedy, eh?
robin ann - UNMC is the best hospital period... I HATE Creighton...
terry hand vlasnik - I believe it..especially after being in an Alegent ER today for 5 hours ! AND it was filthy and NOT ONE PERSON knew what was going on. TERRIBLE !!!
courtney zech - Hmm karma! CHI is awful, especially Bergen. Methodist and UNMC are way better.
jim howell - I wouldn't take my worst enemy to this hospital. I received terrible treatment there after an accident.
- Convicted felons, ages 15 and 16, are caught with guns in a stolen Jeep (Type: link | Published: 2015-01-11T16:05:26+0000)
WOWT 6 News: Convicted felons, ages 15 and 16, are caught with guns in a stolen JeepComments:
jeff izahoodbilly - The revolving door of incarceration is the reason our country is falling on its face now... Parents are dropping the ball at an alarming rate.. Idiots are having children with Idiots by the hundreds of thousands and America has completely failed at Mental Health Treatment.. If you think its ok for a 15yr old to be a felon then your part of the problem..
jarrod williams - So when do the parents get to see jail time for their kids actions.
jeremy mohlke - Ban jeeps! Especially the stolen ones!
doreen rieck mcmahon - So, I bet they were "turning their life around! Such good kids!"
gabby chavez - These kids want to do adult crimes , forget detention center make them do the prison time .
dexter smith - Amazin, outlaws don't respect the laws that say they are not allowed to have guns...
vicki cswercko - Now slap them on their little juvenile hands...release them...and search for them as murder suspects one year later.
gerald wade - Have fun in prison! You commit a felony, we should get to know who you are and your record should not be sealed when you become an adult. Maybe one of these boys is another Nikko Jenkins in the making.
jamie krussel - That's just sad. :(
shanon knight - So why is a 15 yr old convicted felon out and about?
david wichman - Once your a felon..you lose all your rights to not have your names released. I imagine they will be out in time to watch the football games today.
rick domenge - Throw the book at them!ZERO second chances!
theresa johnson - 15 and 16 and already felons. Although sometimes it is, it's not always the parents' fault. Be careful to blame parents - sometimes they do their best but can't always control the actions of their children. I have seen parents raise several "good" children and then have one that chooses to do their own thing. Not always the parents' fault. Maybe our justice system needs to be STRICTER and hand down stiffer penalties so these kids learn from their mistakes. Being a felon at 15 and 16 maybe these kids should have been in a detention center for the crimes they have committed!!
connie nicole phillips - Parents cant control everything their children do. Should your parents be punished for raising such simple minded children? If you never grew up in the hood with the struggles and lifestyle and turned your life around then you shouldnt speak on things you dont know. Now go take a seat. Or better yet, go help these kids and their parents deal with the life they have. The state dont help nobody!
max snyder - I'm sure they're good kids or least were about turn their lives around
joe russell - Im sure they were just..."kids being kids" right??? Smh! What is wrong up there is soooo wrong it aint even funny. 15 and 16 year 0lds with defaced guns!!!!???? Cmon now omaha!!!! Nothung but punks!!
jason stenger - Charge them as adults
john jp nadrchal - WTF? You know they'll be back on the street til someone gets mudered! Just hope its other criminals!
michelle kimball - I agree with Donna...like a 25 year old male with 6 kids already...he sure as heck isn't supporting, raising, or teaching them anything good.
jeremy davis - How did you get this wowt is against the law
rene palos - Alejandra Jacinto

WOWT 6 News: WOWT is pleased to announce that it has reached a new carriage agreement with Cox Cable. We anticipate that our signal will return to the cable lineup within the hour. We appreciate your support of WOWT!
shana johnson - That was fast! Now if Blue Cross and CHI could do the same!
rick jennings - Thanks for involving us in your little game of corporate greed, it was real fun
christine hasselman perquin - Well, as long as you both feel better. That was pretty childish to use your viewers like children trapped in an ugly divorce.
ron kreutzian - so who caved?? and how much will it cost the consumers??
jayce patterson - On a totally unrelated note, your cox cable bill is now 12% higher...
debra wert - Great I now want 1 weeks worth of discount from cox for not getting my full service I paid for
colleen dineen arnold - Wowt your greed will cost you viewers shame on you! Just bad business
mel anderson - That's nice. As a payback will be boycotting your sponsors for a while.
jim o'donnell - Who cares? WOWT let it get to the point they started bashing COX over and over again before they went off the air. Did not miss them, and honestly won't watch them now.
desiree rue - Weird they made it right before the Super Bowl no one saw that coming
lorrie albers - Yes an agreement was reached however before you pass the blame onto Cox please get the facts correct! Cox did offer free antenna's that could be picked up at a Cox Solution store to enable their customers to watch WOWT. I myself went and picked one up. It was easy to hook up and was able to watch WOWT. So much negativity seems so ridiculous....life is too short for so much drama!!
sarah marie mcglynn - Good now people can stop complaining about it
julie emert - Thank goodness! Couldn't stand people complaining about something they can watch for free!
pamela turner murungi - People, people, if you want to blame anyone, blame Grey Television. They are the ones who own WOWT. The station itself had no say so in the matter, it's all on the shoulders of the parent company.
nicole williamson jefferies - Great. I'll watch for my new, increased cable bill soon and will know that this dispute is a contributing factor to that increase.
joe a lapuzza - No one supported you. We just wanted the product that we paid for, and you were exactly one half of the problem. Anyway, first world problem. Whatever.
kimball kinnersley - Im holding WOWT accountable on this one from according to what I've read. Didn't watch much of them in the past and it will be even less moving forward. I'm a huge NFL fan and didn't get to see a great playoff game. Very disappointed...
tracy weber - Glad I have over the air TV
I won't pay for overpriced cable TV.
jim white - You are back..... I won't be back
sara steffen - Awwww, you've both worked out your greed. That's so cute. We should all sit down for milk and cookies and discuss how we can better handle it in the future.
cheri degeyter mcgoogan - Will you please re-broadcast primetime series shows we missed? If can be off hours just give the day and time to set the recording! Especially shows that are in their last season like Parenthood!

WOWT 6 News: President Obama will visit Iowa on Wednesday to talk about making high speed Internet access more available nationwide.Comments:
karyn moran - 0bama is gonna wave a magic wand and make it free, too. *throwing glitter in the air* Now back to my rainbow unicorn. :)
jeff kaye - Maybe he can figure out contact negotiations with Cox and WOWT.
susan reed norman - Really don't think that visit is necessary. Is that really what his "job" is about? Stay home Obama and save us some money.
eric chavez - Too cold for golf this time of year.
rosalie weis ridgeway - Keep him over there.
patty benedict struthers - He should have more important things to do....
carrie gibbs - There are more issues in this country that are more priority than high speed internet.
michelle woodrich - Because this is a top issue how?????
chris gunter mitchell - He has done a lot to our country. That's the problem.
travis may - Lots of haters out there! Get over it people! I'm sure when dumbya was running around the country, these same people were telling everybody to respect and support their president!
raquel a erickson - Since when has he been a spokesperson for the Internet. How about making the affordable Care Act actually affordable.
stacen gross - Broadband access for communities, businesses and residents of this country has implications in education, jobs and economic development. Its kind of a big deal and a good thing to care about and not all about surfing the web faster from your home.
curt courtney - Our government shuts down cause were broke but we can afford the cost of bringing the president in to talk about internet WOW just WOW
mary kelleher - Bigger problem Obama...bring back Channel 6!!! Hahahahaha
susan reed norman - STAY HOME OBAMA? wE DON'T WANT YOU TO cOME!!!!
melody riggs - Most people don't realize a lot of high schools and middle schools are switching to computers to do all homework on. Its not easy doing homework all day on a slow computer and getting nothing done...
samantha traver - Ugh! Shut up Obama!
kelly koos nicholson - Excited to hear where he will be!
monica kahl - Wish we had high speed internet in Malvern, Iowa, DISH NETWORK is a joke at my house, don't believe the commercials!
dene miller ford - He is honestly trying to get his nose into everything!
diane ekberg blann - Doesn't he have a REAL job?

WOWT 6 News: The "Blizzard of '75" hit the metro 40 years ago today.Comments:
kim mcconnell - Year of the best snow forts ever! Childhood before technology <3
joann sisley - And it was forecasted to be flurries...
owen thorsen - Funny story.
A guy was leaving UP Hdqrtrs and got stuck in traffic at 15th and Dodge. He took off on foot.
After the storm when things returned to normal he started looking for his car. No luck. OPD hadn't impounded it, the sheriff hadn't impounded it. None of the tow truck companies had it either. He reported it as stolen and was paid by his insurer.
In the summer of 1977 the guy is out for a lunch time walk near the UP Hdqrtrs. He happens to look into the parking lot of the Conoco station at about 16th and Dodge and thinks he sees his stolen car. So he goes onto the lot and verifies that it really was his car.
He talks to the guy on duty and the guy tells him that his car and several others had been pushed onto their lot during the big blizzard a few years previously. Everyone else came and got their cars but the one he was referring to had just sat in the back of the lot since the storm.
So the guy tells the manager he wants his car back. The manager tells him he is welcome to it but owes storage fees since January of 1975.
That's when the cops were called. We figured out that the car actually belonged to the insurance company because they paid the owner for the loss of the car and the manager should call the insurer for reimbursement on the storage fees.
terri carlson - My dad and I walked to the grocery store and brought the sled to get the groceries back with. We also made a tunnel to the neighbor's houses and our dogs could just walk over our fence.
kathy fead-egr - Just think 5 months later was the tornado that went down 72nd street.
billy dougherty - Was it coincidence i was born exactly 9 months later!! #blizzardbabies
dan moquin - When winters really were winters, not this crap we have now
jolene johnston hernandez - And I was born 9 months later.....Kathy Youngs
barbara garlic taylor - Guess we're not going to get a weather forecast from WOWT in the near future.
nick liston - That is nothing compared to the back to back December Blizzards of 2009
steve sesemann - Nightmare? Tornado also
sandy lemp preister - Boy do I remember! 14 years old and a long walk home that day.
kathleen nolan shrauger - Had a 3&5 year old. Was on my way to work for Dr Allan Davis and a policeman directing traffic, made an opening so I could do a u turn and get back home. Just made it up my drive way and was snowed in the next 3 days. All my coworkers were in hotels and their babysitters had kids for 3 days! It was unbelievable! I am so grateful to that nice cop!!
coralee reed - Loved it!!! We could sled!
ruth ann vanek - Remember it well!' Worked in downtown Omaha ..didn't make it back to town that day ..stayed in a motel on hwy 75 across from Wilson concrete ..made it back to Ptown the next day & stayed with Inlaws & home on Sunday & yes I was pregnant ..pushing cars I. The hwy & yes was in the tornado in May
danielle jensen - My mom worked for the phone company (back then there was only one) & the company got their employees there via snowmobile. I remember crying when she left. She was gone for a couple of days.
herbert hall - Remember that day Robert Delp
herbert hall - Unloaded a house full of drywall for school construction technology classes me and one other student only one's big enough to stand in wind with a sheet of drywall next class teacher had us dig his car out then sent us home
amy green - Got to love Nebraska!
mike wellman - Eric P Nelson and Gretchen Nelson dad, Ron, picked me up at work in Papillion about 2:00 pm. He tried to drive us home to his house in his four wheel drive pickup, but everywhere we went, there were abandoned vehicles on the roads blocking our way. About midnight, we gave in for awhile, and got some food n drink and a lot of company at a grocery warehouse on the south side of I-80 on 108th, less than a mile from where he lived on 99th and Nina(?). We then helped get several vehicles get off 108th that were blocking our passage north. It was almost daylight when we were able to move again. Took us about five minutes to get to the top of his hill, where even his truck finally got high centered. We walked the few yards to his home. Great fun! Still nothing compared to what Buffalo NY saw earlier this year!
mari byrd patania - I was 9 years old. We had to park at the bottom of our street and walk home. We stopped at a neighbors house(whom we didn't know at the time) to get warm about half way while my dad went home& got warmer clothes for us, then we had to sleep on the kitchen floor with the oven open for warmth because our heat went out!
- COX CUSTOMERS: You asked, we're answering. Gray Television is working hard to reach a deal wit (Type: video | Published: 2015-01-09T01:11:31+0000)
WOWT 6 News: COX CUSTOMERS: You asked, we're answering. Gray Television is working hard to reach a deal with Cox Cable to bring WOWT back to Cox customers. Until an agreement is reached, you will be unable to receive WOWT programming on Cox Cable including WOWT 6 News, the NFL playoffs this Saturday, Super Bowl XLIX, The Golden Globes on Sunday, The Blacklist, Jeopardy, The Voice, The Today Show and Saturday Night Live. WOWT NBC Omaha has never had a significant blackout on any cable system before, and we are committed to continuing our negotiations to bring WOWT back. More questions? Call 1-800-352-2235.Comments:
rick jennings - And yet the Fox, ABC & CBS affiliates are still on...hmmmm
david herrick - Cox's website this morning stated WOWT was available to sll viewers in the Omaha market. When I questioned them on it, I was told they would not update it everything there was a contract dispute. I also told them I was told my service would always include all local channels, I was told tgere was nothing tgey could do on broken promises
brianne gerhardt - Love the WOWT team! Chanel 7 just isn't the same... John Knicely, Mallory Maddox, Serese Cole, Mike Lapointe, RUS?!? These are my people!! Not to mention I miss watching Jimmy Fallon and Parenthood... the Super bowl is a whole other ball game (pun intended) that I will miss almost as much as the WOWT crew. We need them back. ASAP.
charlie holm - I don't understand how something I can get for free with an antenna can be cut because of a price dispute...?
sarah farha-troia - This is crazy! Please WOWT or Cox just give in! Really miss watching the Today Show, Jimmy Fallon and many other favorites on your network!
lisa kapalamula - Cox isn't negotiating with you, WOWT, because your rate increases are unjustifiable. Second rate news channel gets excited about exploiting a temporary increase in viewership and cries when nobody falls for it. You may have confused out of touch homebodies wanting their Jeopardy, but the rest of know the suits at WOWT are spinning their greedy intentions for the ignorant hoping they pick up a phone and fight their fight for them. Make your money off advertising... Oh wait that requires viewers, never mind, we know that's a weak spot for you guys.
cathie deloa - You guys SUCK! You owe it to the Omaha Community to get back on the air.
bob savery - Doesn't the franchise laws Cox operates under require it to carry all the local channels?
brandon wertz - What a disingenuous post from you WOWT.
I can understand carrying the Gray company line, but come on. A 400% increase?
Just as others have posted...It doesn't matter if others have submitted to these strong arm tactics. I'm just guessing that the last contract was for five years.
So after 5 years the Gray network thinks they're entitled to a 400% pay increase after 5 years?
casey fehl - I have lots of my favorite shows on this channel, I'll be very upset if the channel doesn't come back at all, SO BRING IT BACK FAST
kylie wald - It just better be fixed by Tuesday so I can watch Chicago fire
tammyordallas lapsley - I went out out today and bought a cheap antenna and now I can watch wowt and still have cable its easy to hook up and use your regular remote to your TV and program it
debbie donnelly-good - So glad that we don't live in Omaha ! WOWT is shooting themselves in the foot ! I bet they are going to lose alot of customers especially with the NFL playoff games this weekend ! Gray Television seems a little greedy to ask for a 400% rate increase !
diane macaitis - WHY do we even have to pay for FREE TV?
lori douglas - This is directed to COX - It is unfortunate we are paying for something we are no longer receiving. Please consider prorating some type of refund to your customers although I know that is facetious. I hope this gets resolved soon so we can resume watching wowt. Good luck on all accounts WOWT!
chris gunter mitchell - What do you want WOWT 6 news? And please don't repeat yourself by saying "a fair price". Just say it. How much of an increase are you looking for? Is it the 400 percent cox is claiming or not? Just be straight with us. No more bush beating.
john farrar - WOWT 6 News/Gray Television: if you are going to try and say that cox is to blame as you have in replies to comments left on here, are you going to also provide the specifics of what you are asking cox for in your negotiations? You throw the super bowl and the playoffs in our faces like we can't go to a sports bar and watch them. If you're going to use us as pawns in these negotiations with cox then at least have some decency and give full disclosure of your demands. If you're really not to blame and cox is then this should be no problem.
susan dickey - The Cox store is giving antennas out for free. They gave me 4. Gray has done the same thing to 2 other cable companies. Fargo lost 2 networks through Cable One. Looks like it's on Gray and WOWT for asking for a huge increase. I thought about changing companies, but it will probably happen to that company too.
jude treinen - Last season of Parenthood? Missing it right now!!! Not happy :(
joel hertwig - Its funny, when I looked at the dispute, I realized that the wrong entity is paying the other. To me, Cox is providing WOWT a huge service in a crisp, clear signal uninterrupted by weather or atmospheric anomalies. Cox even shows/plays the commercials that WOWT gets paid by the advertisers for. What WOWT needs to realize is that normally, by law (FCC Code) their signal is FREE. WOWT/Grey Television needs to consider who's helping them make money.
With out Cox showing their station right now, none of the ads they have been paid to show, WOWT 6 News sponsors, NONE OF IT, is being seen by 60% of Omaha. Maybe WOWT needs to realize that fact.
shellette rietz - Gray Communications is to blame. They want a big increase in their fees to provide us free, local tv. Cox is giving us free antennas, sounds to me like they are trying to take care of their customers. Century Link and Direct TV is a joke. Bill goes up whether no matter what you have.
- In case you missed it....Omaha community leader talks about her son being charged with two murd (Type: link | Published: 2015-01-07T13:57:05+0000)
WOWT 6 News: In case you missed it....Omaha community leader talks about her son being charged with two murders.
debbie karas-wiechman mclean - My heart is sad for this mother (as well as for the parents of the 2 victims)! It doesn't matter how well you train your child up, there are no guarantees they will walk down the road they were taught. Each child grows up and makes their own decisions. All we can do is hope and pray they turn out okay. My thoughts and prayers are with these hurting families
lonell cooper - Should a used her skills to raise her son instead of raising a murderer. I'm tired of the violence. No time for sympathy for criminals with all the victims here. Sad part is some of us like myself have small children to raise and at some point u gotta ask urself if u wanna bring ur kids up in this environment
janet rose - My heart breaks for her. She's a strong woman. How tragic for all families involved.
joe russell - This is a case in which parents should take note....this is a good lady from a good family with hope and love. And somehow the views and beliefs of this family did not resonate with one individual. Its sad. Prayers for the family. A murderer is a murderer though! And he needs.not to see the light of day again.
matthew lamb - he is a gang member no sympathy here
nina renae - She has helped the community ssoo much! The devil is real, once a child gets a taste of the streets....There is not to much a parent can do! She is an outstanding mother and activist against the gang violence! So don't blame or throw stones at her, support her thru this difficult time!!!!
john farrington - All the prayer walks, all the hearts go out to whomever and feelings of sadness will do NOTHING until people admit the real problem.... The menace to society thug culture.. Yes its too bad people die but why did they die. Who is to blame? We are because we don't go after the reason.
tiffany leckband - Prayers to all involved We r responsible to teach our children which she has done. She has has showed a great example to her son. However with her doing all of this her son still makes his own choices. At 16 this is devasting. For the victims at 26 it's devasting. I know at 37 I'm still learning about life and have a great life but to think of what my beliefs where at either of those ages. Well let's say they are much different today. I also help in my community and I'm seen as a leader. However I also do my best with my children and can pray they will follow my lead and not the lead of their friends and others. Again my prayers to all involved. I hope and pray she knows in her heart she can not be at fault for her sons action she sounds like she has tried to set a great example and get him the help he needs.
brian mann - Her son's freedom and innocence, in this case, pale compared to the two lives he snuffed out and the great sorrow their families are experiencing.
andie jaye - Took a lot of courage and humility to do what she did.
bridget goldsmith mckee - This poor woman. God bless the victims families as well.
jeanette groppe - I admire her for what she has done. My mother always said that they could only teach us right from wrong but we needed to make the right decisions. Sometimes I made bad decisions but it wasn't because I wasn't taught the right way. We all do!!!
jan reeves - My heart breaks for her.... Sometimes our children just make the wrong choices no matter how good our parenting skills were... Please don't judge her for the actions of her son!!! Only God has the right to judge!!!
donan anderson - So sad for all. I'm sorry for the loss of lives and the loss of innocence. How heartbreaking for all the parents involved. God's love and peace.
dawn phillips - I feel for her! How tragic! She has worked to stop the violence & now her own son is up for murder! Can we say a prayer for all of the families heart ache & for more people like her to step up to help stop the violence!
lashanda mcbride - You can't blame his mother for his actions at 16 we all know right from wrong and she wasn't there as a parent we can only do so much
shari pickett-johnson - If she is such a great community leader then why did her son murder two people! Obviously she didnt take too much of a part in her childs life
lashanda mcbride - I'm saying that I knew at 16 committing murder is wrong and she knew her son was already struggling and he was on the run from a placement already so why should she be held responsible for his actions
kleo ghostdancer warner - That's what happens when go around cleaning house, and your isn't clean ! ya dig
jennifer nelson wiehe - Prayers for Ms Robinson, the Lovejoy family, & the family of Dexter Joseph as they all deal with loss. Such a tragedy. Prayers for comfort & peace.
tisha moore - This was kind of moving. I'm not even going to read the comments because I know the world is full of haters.
