WOWT 6 News: A 2-year-old Nebraska girl was left in her parent's vehicle for 9 hours outside of her mother's workplace.Comments:
Cathy Schwisow - I'm sorry...but how does a parent get so busy they forget they have a child in there car.
Rachel Pipes Allen - It could be any number of things. Mom might not be the one that typically drops the baby off at daycare. So, she's in her routine and just on auto-pilot drives straight to work.
Thankfully, baby is doing well. But, let's not just crucify the parents just yet people.
Stephanie Lipari Townsend - No offense to those saying we don't know her circumstance.... The safety of her child should have never and never be jeopardized because of circumstance... 9hrs in a car??? in Freezing temperatures???? NO EXCUSES... I'm sorry.... IF you CHOSE to have and KEEP a child then you chose to understand that it is your responsibility to put that or those Children's needs ahead of your own in every situation!!! NO excuses... Busy morning or not!!! That child should be her priority when it comes to the child's needs
Angiee McNelly Gunderson - Absolutely NO excuse...I don't care how distracted you are you DO NOT forget your child is in the car!!!
Carrie Buettner-Kreber - What if the husband normally takes the child to daycare? What if put the child in the car for her? What if the child was sleeping and never uttered a peep? What if she had been running late, or received devestating news that morning and her mind was else where (like she has cancer or someone died?) If you don't know the circumstances its easy to judge. Instead of judging say a prayer for this family. Say thank you to the man above that this baby was safe and unharmed in the car all day.
Carrie Buettner-Kreber - When someone gets that busy to forget their child, maybe its time to stepback and rethink their life style. I can't imagine how thay mother must feel. It is not up to me to judge this parent, this doesent mean she is a bad mother or that she doesent love her child. My prayers for this family. I can't imagine what they are going through!
Tiffini Sanduski - There isn't a "reasonable" excuse regardless of if it wasn't routine of the mother to take her to daycare. Parents are held accountable for a child's every need. When the child didn't show up to daycare the daycare should have contacted them asking if the child wasn't attending that day (I run a daycare and unless parents notify me otherwise I will call if they are an hour past usual drop off time) I just find it odd that no one thought about the child for 9 hours. They are extremely lucky that the toddler was ok!
Kelly D. Cuellar - hopefully the little girl was taken from her parents!!
Mandi Schimek - I notice that it says the dad called the mom. From the sounds of the news story, they musted have then taken their child to the doctor to be checked out. That sounds like a mother who realized she did something that could have harmed her daughter and instead of just going on with the day, she chose to take her daughter to be checked out probably knowing it would mean she had to tell what she did. That sounds like a loving parent.
We all have opinions on this, but believe me, great parents can make mistakes and overlook a sleeping child in a car. Not always is a story like this the result of drugs, drinking, or crappy parents. Praise God the toddler is ok.
Jill Perk - It is her job as a parent to KNOW where her 2 year old is. How some of you can make excuses for her is beyond me. It's not as though she forgot her purse or a bag of groceries in the car.
Rachal Williams - I'm sure everyone posting negative comments on here are perfect parents. All we know is what the news is reporting not the moms side or the dads side or why the daycare didn't call. Don't judge until you know the whole story!
Tiffini Sanduski - Would you all be saying the "what ifs" if the child had died as a result of this? No parent is perfect however if it was YOUR child, grandchild, niece, cousin...would you still be so lenient and full of excuses for this? I don't care what the story is, this is not acceptable in any way
Jan Fries - Wow such judgements people. Let's just thank The Lord this baby is is alive. I have gotten all the way to work and forgot to drop of my child at daycare. It happens an people make mistakes. Nobody knows I this mother did it on purpose but until the facts are straight people need to relax. Nobody is perfect!!!!!
Shannon Elaine Moreno - To Kathy Speranzo-Lewis,
I have been a foster parent for 14 years, just because a child goes into foster care, does not mean they will be. Sexually or physically abused. And for you to even bring that up is ignorance at its best. This child should be place in the states system until they can investigate the child's home life. You don't just forget your two year old is in the car. This little girl is very lucky to be alive, with temperatures being below freezing.
Andrea Petrovich-Olson - I'm also wondering why the daycare never called when the child didn't show up.
Fern Ball - Why didn't the daycare call the parents when they didn't show up with the child.
Stephanie Malik - How do you not know your child was in your backseat?! o.O
Lisa Hirsh Prescher - All of you defending these parents should be ashamed of yourselves. I don't care how busy they were that morning, how much was on their minds, or how out of routine they were. When they are responsible for another life, THAT should be all they think about. PERIOD. And, no, none of us are perfect parents, but this isn't forgetting their favorite blanket at home situation, THEY FORGOT A BABY IN THE CAR ALL DAY LONG. What if the baby had died, would you feel the same way? Thank God the baby survived. Thank God the parents were stupid and put the baby in her car seat with her winter coat on. This is child neglect plain and simple. Until the parents are deemed fit to be parents, the child should not be in their care.
Shay Horgdal-Grebin - Why don't we focus on the daycare provider as well. I believe ALL daycare providers should have a system in place. If a child will not be attending daycare the daycare provider shall be notified. If not notified the provider will then contact the parents. This could save many lives. People please don't judge. We can all say"I would never do this !" Please let's just find a solution. This isn't the first time it has happened. Can we work together to make it be the last?
Kristi Shrodes Mock - Wow..crazy! Glad the little girl is okay! I couldn't image no one seen or heard anything! I have a 2 year old and she is always talking/yelling/crying!
Carrie Bird - There are lots of things that could have lead to this but does this make the parents a bad parent NO no parent is ever perfect but until you know all the facts don't judge.
But I will say technology has become soo common in cars that unfortunately parents forget their child (ren) are in the vehicle which anymore is not a good thing
I hope the mother gets parenting classes or something but glad the child is safe

WOWT 6 News: We already know the Henry Doorly Zoo is the best, but now touropia.com has named it the best in the WORLD. What's your favorite attraction?Comments:
WOWT 6 News - You're both correct, it's largest. We're just proud of the great places, like the zoo, that Omaha has to offer!
Daniel Dunlap - Correct me if I'm wrong but the article says "Largest" and not the "Best". :)
Heidi McKinney Grimes - While the article does specify that the HDZ is the largest in the world, those of us who have had the privilege of touring this attraction can verify it is also the best!
Raquel A Erickson - Ive been to a few zoos and I still have not seen one that compares to Henry Doorly Zoo!
Linda Stessman Schmitz - Well in my book, it is also the best!!
Kendra Mekalle - Sheesh, it's still great to know. Give them a break, people.
Crystal Kropf - When you read the article it combines size with number of species ... And by combining both we have the BEST zoo in the world!!!
Raquel A Erickson - No surprise!! I love that zoo !
Sara Smoley Maisel - I was thinking the same thing Daniel and Lorri. If they are going to report something, it should be done correctly, especially considering it is a news station.
Ruth Blanco - And my friends say i exaggerate when Ive told them we've came in first a long time ago lol. It'll be even greater when we get the panda exhibit:)
Amanda Mahoney - This article is over 1 year old. Where's the NEWS?
Jenn Brewer - My favorite is the Aquarium especially after it's renovation! The virtual pond for the kids is a hoot!! And I love the spider crabs! But my favorite of all time are the sea turtles in the aquarium, the one that is usually along the large pane glass when you come out of the tunnel is my favorite. I call him Crush...lol. And to me it doesn't matter if it says 'Largest" or 'Best'...of all the zoos I have been to HDZ is by far has the best looking animals and the best looking property because it's cleaner than the ones I have been to.
Crystal Harris - My family loves the zoo! Our favorites are the penguins and the gorillas
Carlina Wiese - Gorillas! If they could add kangaroos, dolphins, and panda bears it would be amazing!
Angie Maxwell - Love Henry Doorly Zoo! Penguins are my favorite!
Jereomy Frum - Anyone getting a zoo pass this year?
Carlos Adauto Junior - That Zoo Is The Best In The World
Cnt wait to see it again
Sara Haley - Large and Best are two different things. ;)
George Ulrick - My wife and I spent two days at the zoo last year and still didn't get to see everything they have to offer. Did we take our time there, you bet and it was worth it. I wish they had a two or three day pass that senior citizens could purchase. A seasons pass would be even better.
Lorri Boye - I believe it says it is the largest... not the best.
Lindsey Stagner - Aquarium and the jungle :)

WOWT 6 News: Creighton Prep will start random drug and alcohol testing of students in August. Good idea or invasion of privacy? http://bit.ly/1kqzEUCComments:
Judy Showen - Good idea! The only people that will complain about it are the ones that are worried about getting caught. Illegal is illegal...period.
Sarah Marlowe - Their parents choose to send them there, so they can just as easily choose to not send them there if this bothers them.
Pete Goodman - I am all for it as long as all of the staff, priests, board members etc. do the same!
Amy Clouse Pugh - They are kids, they don't need privacy when it comes to illegal drug and alcohol use.
Judy Kellerman - they should also be doing it for the people on welfare !!! if they can do random checks at jobsites, it should/could be done other places
Rob Rodriguez - In other news, Creighton Prep transfer rates go up 50%
Jennifer Thompson-Kirlin - It is a private school so they can do as they please. I would be very surprised to see any issues with transfer or suspension due to this policy. Prep expects a lot of their students and the parents are very involved so this is most likely just the current measure in an ongoing policy. I can assure you that these kids will not "be OPS's problem" or are being "parented by the school" as stated below. As a parent whose kids also go to local private schools, I know that myself and other private school families are highly involved with our kids including sacrificing financially to pay tuition and volunteering in all aspects of our kids lives. My kids have friends at Prep and they are fantastic young men from warm, loving and positive focused homes.
Clint Johnson - It's a privately owned and operated school... They can make and inforce whatever rules they want. If students/parents don't like it, they can transfer to another private school or a public school.
Carrie Swinarski-Baier - It comes down to one thing. The difference between right and wrong. Either the students are following the code of conduct or they are not. If not, this school obviously is not for them. Face it you are there to study and start your future.
Roosevelt Bailey - Kids do drugs sometimes. It doesn't matter if they're in a private, public, or catholic school. It happens. At least CP recognizes a problem and our trying to get out in front of it.
Margo Odom Mcfarland - Kids from loving caring parents do drugs.
Craig Morton - Schools r there to teach...NOT GOVERN!!
Amy Clouse Pugh - Kristin, "lazy" parents don't pay to send their kids to prep.
Jennifer Thompson-Kirlin - Is it me...or are people going unnecessarily crazy over this story? It is hilarious seeing parents outside of the Catholic school system say that we are "failures" because of standard policies at our schools knowing that their schools have similar policies and some even do weapons checks. No one is saying anyone has "bad kids" or are "bad parents". This is a policy to ultimately help students. Kids make mistakes and sometimes parents don't see everything going on. No one is perfect, and there is certainly no such thing as a perfect parent. One does the best they can and arm kids with ethics and knowledge to make good decisions. If they make mistakes, then their parents and community are there to help them. That is what families do...help each other, even kids that aren't yours.
Mary Macias-Cox - @ Thomas Bullock
... until you walk a day in someones shoes, don't you dare have the audacity to say that just because a child gets caught up with drugs or drinking it means that it's due to lazy, low life parents. To say that they have failed as parents is such a cruel statement and very jusgemental. Where did you get your facts? I know many parents, myself included who are far from your insulting categorization, who have been in this situation. Guess what ... kids get caught up with this regardless of lazy or hardworking, professional or blue-collar, involved or not, clueless or not. Think before you lash out, this type of lashing out is what is wrong with so much in this country.
Jim Wingert - Private school. They can do what they want.
Dave Wichman - I don't understand how it can be a violation of privacy if it could dave a childs life..and is in fact against the law for them to drink or di illegal drugs. I think it should be mandatory for every single public school too. If my tax dollars are paying for the public schools I should have a say i it.
Jake Kamp - It's a private school...if you have a problem with it just go to a different school. This is a great idea.
Mary Macias-Cox - When you choose to send your child to Catholic School it comes with the understanding that they have standards and rules and your child will be held accountable. Therefore; if you don't like any of their rules you have the right to not send your child to that school. Point being that we must teach our kids to abide by rules. We are raising kids who think they can opt out of some rules because in their non-fully developed brains they are not being taught any better. You don't have to be a "bad parent" for your kid to get caught up the the alcohol and drug cycle ... believe me I say it happens to good parents.
Wayne Brown - Great ideas. It's a requirement in the real world for employment, might as well start conditioning our youth.
Kristin Lalley Aliano - It is not the schools responsibility. It is the parents. Schools are there to teach not to parent!!!

George Ulrick - We didn't get around to putting any up outside this year. Had too many other irons in the fire including a trip to Colorado for the birth of a granddaughter on my birthday. I'm 69 and would like to see her reach the age of 69 but I doubt that will happen.
Brandi Fearing - Well I hope they take advantage.... no i have definetly taken mine down!!!

WOWT 6 News: In case you missed it on Daybreak, Jim Siedlecki announced he's leaving WOWT 6 News at the end of the month. He's decided to leave the business and head west to Colorado. It's with a heavy heart that we wish him and his family well in their upcoming adventure.
Please sign a virtual card for Jim at http://bit.ly/1iCPQRQ.Comments:
Sarah Deselms - Want to share a story about him... My car got a flat tire, it was raining, my phone died and I was on a back road to a housing area... No street light, no traffic. Until a car comes and stops and offers me a ride home. It was Jim. He was nice enough to even draw me a map on how to get back to my car!!! Great person :)
Sarah Blaufuss - Colorado huh .lol were certain items are now legal ;)
Malorie Maddox - I'm crushed to see my co-worker of 12 years moving on. Here is a pic of us anchoring in Joplin in 2002. Please don't point out how much younger we look. (We know!) Good luck, Jim. You will be MISSED!
Marcia Whitmore - WOWT 6 News, I hope you told him he can't go!!! Best of luck Jim! We will definitely miss you.
Pat Leuschen Hruska - Dislike - who's next to go on 6 - I use to love watching morning new with Malorie and Jim - they broke them up and now Jim is leaving - I'm not as enthused with the news anymore! Jim you will be missed!
Anna Rebecca Felber - That stinks! I love the chemistry of him and Cerise and Rusty.
Scott Childers - Everyone should abandon Nebraska for the golden state of free weed.
Derek Colledge - Awe bummer!!! Jim/Serese/Rusty in the morning is a perfect combination. I love the banter and personalities that mesh so well. Good luck in your future endeavors.
Shev Sayed - This is another unfortunate loss. A word to WOWT, lower your turnover rate for on camera staff, or your viewership will lower as well. Many viewers prefer WOWT because of those who are on camera.
Tiffini Sanduski - Sad, he was my favorite to watch in the mornings! Very personable :)
Tim Robinson - why is he going to CO. is it because things are legal thee now.
Thomas Rubarth - Oh, come on Jim …it's just a temporary Polar Vortex!

WOWT 6 News: There are nearly 1.4 million licensed drivers in Nebraska, and quite a few of them are over the age of 90! Tonight at 10, Erin Murray finds out how many and when senior citizens should hand over the keys. Do you think there should be an age limit on driving?Comments:
Emily Ann Ransom - Not an age limit necessarily, but a test after reaching a certain age and every few years afterwards
Joe R DeLeon - Theres a bunch under 90 that should not be driving.
Lori Benbennek - my mom is 80 and drives very well
Bill Sobotka - Half the people on the roads shouldn't be out there. Reasons range from as simple as insufficiently trained to some more creative reasons I've personally seen like putting on make up, changing clothes while driving and watching porn on their in car tv screen! Of course there's always the more common issues of texting or talking on a cell phone while driving. I could write a book on why a lot of people shouldn't be allowed to drive. Age is just one of them. I've observed how other countries like England require much more extensive drivers training before you can pass a drivers test and get into a 2 ton killing machine. Thousands of our youth would still be alive today including my niece if we had much stricter drivers education and testing. I'm not about taking keys from every senior at a set age but I think all drivers should be tested with an actual driving test that tests ones ability to respond to emergency situations and an eye test more frequently. Then there's the issue of enforcing existing laws such as DUIs and talking and texting. It is pathetic at how people can blow through stop signs and red lights like its nothing and I never see anyone pulled over. We're allowing our drivers to kill themselves and others repeatedly because of insufficient penalties and law enforcement. Just my opinion.
Farmer Ken - Annual testing requirement after age 70
Rick Harris - And what percentage of them drive Buicks?
Steven Niziol - i don't think there should be an age limit .. how ever i think there needs to be some kinda test to make sure they are able and willing to do the at least the speed limit on major roads ...
Sarah Norris - I almost got into a car accident today w a 70-80 year old man and he literally looked like he had NO idea what was going on. Drove half way into the intersection and just stopped. If you're not "with it" to drive- then don't! Regardless of age.
Chris Gunter Mitchell - Should test everybody periodically regardless of age.
Sara Smoley Maisel - I was renewing my license last year and could hear the lady and gentlemen next to me. The lady told the man to let her know what side the light was flashing on (for the vision test), he said okay. After about 30 seconds she asked what side, he didn't respond, so she said is the light on the left or right, his response...."yes" I don't think age matters so much as vision, hearing, etc. He clearly couldn't see the light, but he walked out with his license.
Dorothy Osborne - A lot of older drivers are more active & better drivers than some of the younger drivers. Age isn't everything!
Nicolas Alejandro Lopez - Tested frequently
Julianna John Schweigart - You know my Papa at 89 should of had his license revoked.. Case by case...
Bob Dodson - I notice that most people so far say take away the license, but I also read at least once a week where some teenager is having a problem driving and having accidents. Maybe teens need a driving test every 6 months until age 25.
Tanja Crawford - I wish those who can't safely drive anymore would just give up their license voluntarily. Sad thing is that unless they have someone who can drive them to the store, doctor etc. they're stuck unless they're in an area with decent public transportation (which is pretty much a zero in NE).
Nancy Harrel - My mother is 82 and has a very social life. She drives during the day and admits her driving at night is hard to see with the glare off lights so she don't drive at night.
Karen Murray - No, but tested more frequently
Deb Blatny - A driving test from age 70 on and every 6 months after that. This truly needs to be done, it is quite an issue that is never brought up much.
Mamagina Og - No as long as you are able to see and drive I think they should take the test every year especially the eye test
Linda Hennessy - I'd rather ride with my 95 year old grandmother over my 44 year old husband. Just saying!
John Metz - I don't think age in and of itself should determine when it's time to give up your license. Your driving record should be regardless of age.

WOWT 6 News: No Omaha and Council Bluffs trash collection on Monday due to the extreme cold. Each day's pickup will be pushed back a day.Comments:
Ann Ronk - It's gonna be cold should cancel school also until waiting till last minute for working parents who then have to hurry up and try to figure something out for their children.
Emmy Kroger - That is good news. I think the mail service should be put off a day too.
Brandy Wegner - Just make plans like school is cancelled tomorrow. It's clearly a possibility. Then you won't be scrambling around in the morning.
Rachel Steier - Charlynn MLK day isn't until Jan 20th.....good try though.
Debbie Lepine Pier - @ Joshua your heart is as cold the temp outside...geez
Joy Jensen - that's good I feel so sorry for those that have to work outside
Debbie Lepine Pier - So it's sounds like it's not to cold for you Joshua , then if your not heartless like you say then you will help your elderly neighbors pick up their trash instead of taking photos of them...right? And yes your right name calling is not the way to go...
Janet McQuinn Owen - When it is this cold there should be no reason to go outside unless it is an emergency or you work in an emergency type job.
Nick Taylor - I agree with emmy. Some mailmen load thier mail bags with up to 50lbs of mail to walk their route day in and day out. I salute all. Mailmen out there as my old k an has been a carrier for 35 yrs. Not to mention my mail man walks his route and he is 77 yrs old.
Debbie Lepine Pier - I wonder if they would ever cancel Mail delivery do to the cold? They are just at risk as the garbage collectors...
Amanda Herian - Im not sending my child to school tomorrow. I would much rather him stay home then walk to school. Please post if I dont have to call in absent for PLSD
Patty Carver - what about Bellevue?
Tammy Liljedahl-Larson - Uh...trucks that use diesel tend to gel up even with additive when the wind chill is that cold..The trash collectors aren't union either..they just don't want them stranded all over town with frostbite...it's a huge liability to their employees...get a grip people. .
Trish Davis Werth - Really people are attacking each other when the only point of the post was to inform people of conditions & how it could affect them...as for parents complaining about schools waiting till last minute...seriously, you can't make a judgement call about your own child & plan ahead? if its needed great if not also good...you are worried about your own kid..great keep them home...need daycare just in case well you have 14 hrs to figure it out...stop relying on the school to figure it out for you!! Its cold...plain & simple...not the end of the world!!
Jaime Spedden - Holy crap people. Buy some good winter gear. It's not like we're in the tropics. There's this thing called winter, happens every year. Bundle up and shut up. You shouldn't be on here yelling that places are putting your kids at risk by having school when apparently YOU are the one who can't be bothered to get decent winter clothes for them.
Mary Cherco Panicucci - OPS is already scheduled off tomorrow
Tammy Liljedahl-Larson - 90 year old people have tv and radios..If you think they won't know. ..try being kind and telling them...since it's so warm out..I'm sure you won't mind walking around telling them
April Stephens - I have a sister who delivers mail and an aunt who reads for mud who has to be out in this. I think its way to cold for them or any one person to be out there walking around. Even if there was school my kids would not be going. Just like a snow day. Make plans now so you dont have to last minute.
Sally Mikat - Any word on schools?
Sharon Kraenow Heater - OPS teachers have a work day tomorrow so kids weren't scheduled to be at school until Tuesday. It has been this way for a while.
Amanda Poole - Remember how cold it is when you call your cable guy out too. They don't particularly like the cold.

Jacob Copenhaver - They arent collecting trash tomorrow. If grown men and women arent going to be outside how can some of you expect kids to be out there?
M Bobbie Jo Tostenson - Windchill affects the children that have to walk or stand on a bus stop to get to a class room Jason Heath...duh!
Brian L Lawler Jr - I love reading about those parents who walked to school in the cold. Funny how I am from WI and it was cold there too and walked but I remember when wind chills were bad we don't go. And yes if they call school tomorrow I will stay home with my kid because it's my responsibility. Even if took kids to a daycare it's not the same as walking blocks to get to day care it's 20' moron.
Missy Kay Bailey - I always enjoy reading comments from posts on wowt because it always turns into drama. I love the entertainment.
Cassie 'London' Casey - It affects the kids that have to stand outside and wait for buses.
Shari Scott - What's with all you parents waiting for permission to keep your kids safely home from school? You are the grown ups. Just keep them home if you feel it's dangerous. End of discussion.
Bobbi Mallick Avant - No need to get nasty!
Amanda Sue - Come on council bluffs public!! Way 2 cold for little ones!!
Trish Davis Werth - Umm ...I really don't think that the news channel started this to be a debate about parenting styles or to produce any negative feedback...I'm pretty sure their whole purpose was to inform parents that their child doesn't have school tomorrow not to start an attack on one another..smh!!
Cassie 'London' Casey - ^ that doesn't sound suspisc at all!
Rebecca Steube - Come on Plattsmouth, get a clue. These temps are too cold for these kids to wait for the bus if the bus starts or to walk to school in freezing temps
Jason Heath - I wasnt aware windchills affected the inside of classrooms.
Lovie Evans - Millard needs to call off school too and not wait til Monday morning to do it
Jason Heath - And its 'too.' You probably got to stay home on the day they taught the difference.
Ann Jenkins - Why hasn't OPS/Bellevue/CB called school off? Seems like the responsible thing to do. Especially so parents have a chance to make alternative plans.
Shari Scott - As parents you can make your own decisions regarding your child's safety.
Trish Davis Werth - Hey Nakia...nothing like posting suspicious & I can guarantee illegal activity on a social media site...a news site no less...way to go with the brains factor...maybe YOU need to go back to school...cold or no cold!!!
Emily Browning - It's not "dramatic" to want to protect our kiddos from the cold. Their bodies are smaller than ours and can't handle the cold as well. A lot of the kids who walk to school are elementary kids and you have a lot of kids standing on bus stops. They do NOT need to be out in that cold, even if they are properly bundled. It is an extremely dangerous cold that can hurt them within minutes of being outside.
Jason Heath - Whats crazy is i walked to and from school every day it didnt matter how cold it was. I didnt wait for a bus i walked. You cant hold your kids hands forever. This is a joke.
Jen Baratta-Pilege - I work for a school district that my kids go to so far no call.
Andrea Drake Quiroz - I remember being a kid and they cancelled due to frigid windchills. I make sure my kids are bundled up good, but not all patents do. I have seen kids walking by my house in shorts and barely a coat on. I think it will be a good idea to cancel.

WOWT 6 News: ONE WORD CHALLENGE: It's a "snow" day, minus the snow. Cold days are _______________. Please keep it clean.Comments:
Danielle 'Slobodnik' Janousek - As someone whose child walks to school most of the time (when a ride is not available), I am glad they are giving them the day off. You also need to think about all the kids that stand at the bus stops in the morning and consider how cold it would be for them. They are not wimps, they are children. Give it a rest people.
Sadie Webb-Hawkins - "I don't remember ever get out of school because it was cold, or even for snow days."
They called off school quite a bit for snow, even "back then." I think it's funny that all these people bitching and complaining about school being canceled are probably the same people who think of school as free daycare and send their children to school sick.
Karin Pokorski McIntosh - For feeling thankful for a warm home. .. And praying for those who don't.
Kevin Lust - workforthepizzaguynamedkevin
Diana Lindloff - Non-existent when you're an adult
Jessica Caito - My best guess for most of the people complaining are the ones who are sick of their kids from the past two weeks of vacation and are pissed because now they have to deal with them for another day. And yes people school has always been cancelled if its gotten down to these bitterly cold temperatures. I'm glad all of you have such "thick skin" and can handle it oh so well but these are lil kids, their bodies aren't so tough. Your the adults people, who know darn well that these temps can harm people, so shouldn't you want to be the adults and want to keep the next generations from harm?
Barb Hinchik - Reminders of how blessed we are to have a warm house! <3
Leslie Lammers Dickinson - I agree Lisa A. Kessler!!!! Its for the kids at bus stops, country kids on long bus rides, the KIDS!!!!! Come on people. Why do some of you care anyway? You don't have to "make it up!!!"
Kevin Neubauer - a new thing. I dont remember getting out of school for cold.
Laura Louise Baker - I cant believe the comments on this post! You do realize that you are putting down children!!!! Not just teenagers who have no school but little kids like preschoolers and up! I think its great that they are taking it into consideration of how cold it is other there and closing the schools! Just a remember people that question is Cold days are....? not lets here you bad mouth children! GROW UP!!
Sarah Jacob Turk - Awesome way to protect our kids!
Jenny Rodasky - Worse than all the naughty words.
Donna Pettit Ellis - Great when you can stay inside by a cozy fire with a good book and a cup o hot chocolate. You might invite a favorite niece to share it with you.
Denise LeAnn Marr-Gilliland - For staying warm and safe, and keeping your pets warm and safe. Treat them as you would treat yourself.
Lisa A. Kessler - I agree Danielle! Children can not handle this kind of cold and some come to school w/o socks, coats, or gloves. I had much rather error on the side of caution than risk someone getting disoriented in the cold. The City is even suspending garbage collection. I was out New Year's Eve watching the Fireworks and my hands were numb after 5 min. even w/ 2 pair of gloves on. Of course, I am from the deep South and 32 degrees is "Bitterly Cold," so it is all relative.
Linda Rock-Paul - Wish I could stay home but glad my kids are old enough to stay home by themselves & smart enough to stay indoors
Jan Limpach - I never got out of school for cold and I walked a mile each way.
Donna Popovits - Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious
Brandi Bibins Redburn - Babies don't have to walk to daycare. Or wait at a bus stop to get there.
Cheddar Beers - Poor excuse to close school
Pat Leuschen Hruska - I agree with Danielle 'Slobodnik' Janousek - I just want to cry when I see kids standing out in the cold waiting for the bus as I drive to work early in the morning - my granddaughter has to walk five blocks to wait for the bus and it goes right past her house! Now that I think is stupid! I believe that OPS kids already had the day off anyway.

- Did you know the Douglas County Health Department inspects school cafeterias? While most meet s (Type: photo | Published: 2013-11-22T15:44:10+0000 | Likes: 0 | Shares: 117)
WOWT 6 News: Did you know the Douglas County Health Department inspects school cafeterias? While most meet standards, inspectors found one metro High School that had rodent droppings and a dead mouse. Read more from our Restaurant Report Card at http://bit.ly/1cw7wqE.Comments:
Jan Nipper - Time for a school cat
Jessie Williams - Somehow, I am not in the least bit surprised... :-/
Athena Fleuren - Wow.. I never hear much good about Benson high any more. Sad its gone down hill so much... the students don't even speak of any good about it anymore..
Bobby Brown - This isn't news. Food attracts pests. If you've ever worked in a restaurant, especially in older areas of the city like the Old Market, it's common place. You can still make quality, safe, clean food. People are naive to think otherwise.
Amy Yochum Casey - It's that time of year when mice get inside. Was the mouse & droppings found while they were cooking or at a different time?
Kevin Lust - lets be honest its a place where there is a lot of food
Expect a mouse or two to show up.
Joshua Brunken - benson high school needs new staff
and new alumni association reps
stu pospisil and his buddies have turned Benson High into the joke of OPS high schools
I btw am a Omaha North 98 grad and Benson is seen as the school that needs a house cleaning of staff and alumni reps BIG TIME
cause a lot of incomptence is happening overthere from what I have heard
Margie V. White - Good grief!!!! How did this so over looked???
Tom Carter - I'm from benson and every year something happens and we get a really bad rep every time but the kids are nice but the food is nasty tho
Burgandi Johnson - Oh Alyssa I'm so proud! Lol NOT! And everyone wondered why I never ate at school ha
Keri Wood - Why wouldn't they inspect them? Any place that serves food should be inspected. It's probably not done enough and if we all knew the gross stuff that happens behind doors, we'd stay at home and eat all the time
Hank Watton - It happens. I'm sure they are inspected monthly and taken care of. It's not a perfect world and most things are dictated by budgets nowadays.
Earl Harman - Hey Caral, what's up with your school?
Sherri Bruck - Somebody prob thinks they r hired to cook food , cleaning thAt up isn't their job ,
Always here this in business's !
Got to lazy to go extra mile
Cody Huebert - Better to find a dead one than a live one! Mice have their ways of getting in, but as long as they're 'taken care of' is the main thing.
Laura Snyder - They need to come and check the air quality in schools as well. I know I'm inhaling unhealthy amounts of rodent dropping particles and asbestos.
Alyssa Mayberry - Burgandi you should feel proud! :)
Jason Querry - It's benson, what do you expect.
Rick Follmann - So do most homes, not a story.
Kris Ritchie - No wonder why my 2 teens are always sick. Stupid benson
Amanda N Junior - Eww my lil bro went to that school no wonder he never ate!! :/
- A convicted killer who was once the youngest lifer in Iowa's prison system has terminal cancer (Type: photo | Published: 2013-11-22T19:44:16+0000 | Likes: 0 | Shares: 54)
WOWT 6 News: A convicted killer who was once the youngest lifer in Iowa's prison system has terminal cancer and wants to be released. A judge recommends Kristina Fetters be paroled. Should mercy be shown?
Megan Kelly Rayer - No. Having cancer is irrelevant to her sentencing. Many inmates die while incarcerated, and she should be no different.
Lori Benbennek - no way...karma is a b*tch
Jessica Wolz Hudson - No, she didn't show her aunt any mercy. I'm sure when they sentenced her it wasn't life in prison unless you get cancer then you can go free.
Cindy Uhl Zielinski - Well it looks like God has already given her a life sentence
Joshua Brunken - depends, does Arlene Klehm get to have a vote on this decision
oh, that's right, Klehm dont get to have a vote sadly. wonder why Fetters?
Michelle Deane Cahalane - Actually I did some research before answering this question. She is in a hospice facility inside the prison and if paroled would most likely be going to a hospice house. Right now they are managing her pain and she has been model inmate since her conviction. To state she will probably do the same if released and kill again is kind of ridiculous since I doubt she has the strength or energy.
By the sounds of it she doesn't have long to live. But she also premeditated the murder se committed and she ran away from a juvenile mental health facility to commit this murder. Obviously she was receiving mental health treatment for something. I do not think she is a danger to society by granting her parole but I do feel she should not be released but perhaps special arrangements could be made to allow her family to spend some time with her before she passes.
Wes Boggs - The key is the Supreme Court's ruling that life with parole for juveniles is unconstitutional. Because kids don't always make the smartest decisions and YES some of them can have dire consequences but you aren't a fully-formed human being at 15. Obviously murder is wrong and you know that at 15 but are you also fully in control of your temper or roller coaster hormones at that age? I also don't know the circumstances that led up to the murder. I'm not advocating murder or amnesty but I'm advocating for mercy.
Scott Ruckman - So she killed someone, robbed them of their freedom. and now has terminal cancer… But she should be able to get out amongst the free to live out who remaining time? I say no!
Kevin Lust - isnt the point of life in prison.. life in prison?
Sasha Bailey - She was 14 at the of the crime, and had escape a mental institution. Just did a little research before jumping to conclusions. She did something horrible when she was a child. Children do not have the capacity to comprehend consequences to actions in the same manner as an adult.
Jessica Merkley Pastor - Nope...she didnt have mercy when she killed why should mercy be shown to her
Misty Richardson - No way. She did the crime so she has to do her time. She not being punished for her illness she is being punished for killing. No matter what that's no a get out of jail free card.
Nancie Velasquez - No. And by saying no its not being heartless. Its called serving out your sentence. She killed someone, she serves out her life sentence. Either way the state of Iowa is going to pay for her cancer treatments.
Ethan Bondelid - Why should our opinion matter so much? Let the victims family grant or deny mercy.
Lauren Bowman - You don't get a Get Out Of Jail Free card just because you're going to kick the bucket sooner than expected. She got life in prison, not life in prison unless you get cancer. There is no accurate time scale on how long she has to live. For all we know she would use her freedom to kill whoever sent her to prison in the first place.
Alison Alves - she took a life, she deserves treatment but I dont think she needs to be released
Amy Porter-Schrier - I say YES. I find it sad that so many people are without forgiveness. Give her the last few moments of her life out side of bars. What a sad world we live in these days!!!
Kitty O'Kane - This just makes me sad. The value of life is learned too late for this one. All human lives are sacred, and she should spend the rest of hers exactly where she placed herself through her own actions and choices. All of us are dying every day, some faster than others, be kind to one another.
Nancy Cook-Leonard - So my two cents. She was a child when she went to prison. She has basically grown up there. You don't know her nor have walked in her shoes. I don't believe at this point by keeping her in prison will change the outcome of her life. God will have to be the judge now not any of you who want to throw away the key. Kristina needs to go home now.
Heather K. Myers - No! Just because she gets cancer means she should leave? F that, she's still a danger to others. Her sentence was to spend the rest of her life in jail - how short or long that life is should have ZERO bearing on the decision to keep her or release her.
Emily Jo Smith - Cancer sucks- she did the crime she needs to do the time!
- Adam Levine-of NBC's "The Voice"-is named People Magazine's Sexiest Man Alive. Do you agree? (Type: photo | Published: 2013-11-20T03:36:24+0000 | Likes: 0 | Shares: 52)
WOWT 6 News: Adam Levine-of NBC's "The Voice"-is named People Magazine's Sexiest Man Alive. Do you agree?Comments:
Cassie Moffitt - Absolutely! Not only is he good-looking, but he is hilarious and has a great voice! Count me in!
Barb Glaser - He's not bad, but sexiest alive? No...
Tre Tre - lol, if thats true then the bar has been lowered
Michelle Deane Cahalane - How do you like your eggs Laurie Bartkoski? Fertilized? Lol
German Agraz - He doesn't even lift
Joni Sorsen - He's cute, but not sexiest in my opinion. He's too skinny.
Sarah Snyder - Ummmm no. He isnt bad looking but not the sexiest man alive by a longshot
Megan Wirt - Nope, can't Channing just be voted in again?
Larry Patrick Johnson - And here I thought it was me all this time......DRAT.
Mike Perry - It's an artificial win. I've seen his acne commercials. That's a performance enhancing drug for being pretty...
Jean Marie - i'd have to say my man takes that title hehe
Tristen Nelson - Do me a favor, take the word news out of your title, this is what you think the public needs to know? There is sooooo much more you could be telling us like what's actually happening around the world and you choose to tell us this? Well I hope everyone of you who take part in this so called "news" don't complain about how uneducated and self absorbed people are nowadays because all of you are part of the cause. I'm tired of all this bullshit...
Laurie Bartkoski - I think I'm ovulating....
Natalie Centretto - I can at least 20 men hotter than him.
Paula Smith Pouliot - Maybe not the sexiest man alive but definitely sexy!
Dianna Wilhite - Hmmmmmmmm. No I think there are sexier men. Just IMHO.
Bonnie Smith - he's ok but not the sexiest man alive, take a look at keith urban
Ron Seyboth - I just don't know anymore, the news channels seem to think that their viewers except this as news. Perhaps they are right.
Megan Hunt - He's no Dave Webber
Rebecca Cabrera - You got to be kidding me right?
Pl Blackman - compared to what? Jose Jalapeno on a Steek? LOL
