- Should a parent face child abuse charges for using a wooden spoon to spank her child? (Type: link | Published: 2013-10-09T13:13:57+0000)
Central Coast News KION: Should a parent face child abuse charges for using a wooden spoon to spank her child?Comments:
eddie alvarez - teach your kids right so a correctional officer won't have to
shannon smithson reece - Seems to me this is part of the problem with today's society--parents aren't allowed to touch their kids at all. I turned out ok and I was spanked, and most times not with a hand either. There are many instances where it can go too far and that's abuse, but I'd bet most of the time, parents are using everything they can to get their kids on the straight and narrow. I am so grateful I grew up in the sixties and seventies.
michael myers - nope..only if it was metal..lol..but seriously the kids 12 and Id rather have that kid spanked than to see on the news later on how the "child" killed or stabbed someone because of gang affiliation
ovalteen sanchez - These kids need some love & a good whoopin! Its better for parents to whip them then to let them get out of control & leave it to cops & correctional officers to do it. Note: if/when law enforcement does it, it will be waaaay worse & they will most likely be in the clear per their use of force policy & the law.
daniel ortiz - Spoon -vs- Chankla ?? Spanking gets my vote. When I was a youngster Mom needed to kick it up a notch... Chankla ~ Bam!!
kelly sprague - I was more afraid of my parents than the police that's the way it should be.
shirley muller smith - Spank them now or visit them in Prison later!!
coastal mimz mariss - As a preschool teacher we can tell the kids who do not have good discipline or boundaries at home. Too often the parents are intimidated by their child's behavior and give in to their demands. Scary to see 3-5 olds rule the roost at home and a terror at school. Take away discipline and you have chaos.
miguel bautista - That's what's wrong now a days, parents don't spank their kids. Then they ask,"why does my child act the way they do?" I say spank them.
diana elizondo ocampo - Maybe if more kids got spanked...there would be less punk gangs running the streets & we'd need less prisons! SPANK ON!!! In fact, since babies don't come with "instruction manuals"...they should come with a wooden spoon for those "terrible pre-teens+" years
naniloa t tilei - No some kids today need that wooden spoon!
carolyn dimaggio - Nope, it's actually the Italian way...and usually after only using it once or twice, all it takes is the threat of getting it out of the drawer. :)
karla villalobos - Kids need discipline now a days. That's why kids throw tantrums at the store or in public because they know parents can't do anything about it
bridgette birnbaum - Before giving any advice deal with a smart mouth teenager first!!
lee metcalfe howell - I had a couple of wooden spoons busted over my hind quarters. I think I turned out ok.
stacy tapia - Chancla (sandal) works best. It's more readily available. As soon as one of them starts acting up, you call their attention so they can see you slip it off your foot with a slight toss. Usually, by the time you bend down to pick it up, they've settled down.
shelly stephens carrillo - Nothing wrong with it! A salinas pd officer once congratulated me when my son called the cops because I smacked him. The officer said it is completely legal especially given the circumstances. Just don't leave a mark. That's why kids are so disrespectful today. No consequences. I used a wooden spoon for years! I will say it doesn't work for all kids. But I think my kids should be frightened if they do something wrong.
miguel bautista - No spanking ends up with smart mouth teenagers! To this day I know my parents will smack me if I even cuss around them...
indalesio martinez jr - No. Unless the spoon was used on the face or something. My perents used switches and wooden broom handles. Kids and people nowadays are stupid. Its why there is so much violence. No one disciplines their children anymore because of exactly what just happend in this article. No discipline makes people think they can get away with anyithing. There is no consequence for their actions thus the lack of respect and violence in the streets. Back in the 50's teachers had the power to discipline and were respected. Now they are mocked and riddiculed. See where I'm going with this?
peter stuhlmiller - Hell no that's called discipline.
christy davis - I've used one on my oldest son it seem to do pretty good he never got in trouble he's never been to jail and I guarantee you he will never disrespect another woman again!!! Are Salinas Police Department says you have the right to discipline your children as long as you do not leave bruises on them that's what's wrong with our children today they do not get an a@# beating like we used to do back in the day.
- TONIGHT AT 10 AND 11: How the rise in gang crime in the small city of Hollister is starting to (Type: photo | Published: 2013-10-08T04:41:12+0000)
Central Coast News KION: TONIGHT AT 10 AND 11: How the rise in gang crime in the small city of Hollister is starting to make people living there feel on edge. This comes after a man was found stabbed to death on East Street just feet away from a man who had been run over by a truck early this morning. Tonight we talk to law enforcement to see where this violent streak is coming from.Comments:
mauri såmano - It's coming from Mexico?? Really?? That's the best you can come up with? Always blaming the Mexicans huh. Easy way out. Crime does not discriminate. It can be anyone who falls in its hands. Parents need to be more involved. It all starts at home.
thomas jimenez - That's not racist at all^^^^
cindy parr - Again it doesn't matter what race you are.......we all bleed red blood!! We are equals!! The problem is that as a small community we have got to be more involved when we see things!! Our Law Enforcement can use all the help they can get but so long as we chose to keep our windows closed, and eyes shut we cannot make a difference. Even the littlest things that you can provide Law Enforcement may be the thing they need to help make our community safer. Why can't we just work together for the better of our community??
mayra ramirez - its not just Mexicans!!!!..
maggie mcintyre sahagun - Ok so Hollister is mostly red, meaning lacking in Surenos (Southerners, or those that are wearing blue and part of La Eme, a gang that yes, came out of the Mexican mafia). Hollister has several Norteno (Northerners) gangs. Most people in San Benito County are of Hispanic/Latino origin, but gangs appeal to all ages/races/generations, most are young men and most get sucked into the lifestyle in Junior High. There are plenty of efforts out there to curb bullying behaviors which lead to violent behaviors, in the Hollister community. Become a part of the solution, be a doer, get involved with Youth! They need our time, our encouragement...
gina corrales - It's that generation of kids in there late teens & 20's who's parents played dumb when there kids came in the house sporting colors
gina corrales - Time to stop following this thread some people are starting to sound just as ignorant as the ones killing one another
renee berlanga oropeza - Summer, there are many many gangs in this area and all surrounding areas.Wstsonville, Santa Cruz, Gilroy actually EVERY city, state has them and when you find a city, town that doesn't let us know cuz Im sure lots of us would like to be somewhere gang free. And Im talking every race has them!!
peter stuhlmiller - It's. Not racism, it's truth.
peter stuhlmiller - IN OUR AREA crime is predominantly (by a great margin) committed by Hispanics. In other areas it's whites, blacks, Asians, polar bears... Crime does not discriminate, but we are talking about our area. Our home, that has been overrun by Mexican gangs and drugs. Period.
mauri såmano - No Summer I have not failed anything. When I don't fully understand something, I go do my homework, my research to get my answers. I don't simply assume things based on some headline. Do your part. Get your answers, get a real perspective of things. Only then can you make an informed comment. Maybe then tolerance and understanding can be achieved.
elizabeth benavides - Smh... to the post I'm reading, Always pulling out race cards -__- doesn't matter what race you are!! A crime is a crime period!! doesn't matter what ethnic background or where you came from!
andrew kammermeyer - Gangs in Hollister? What is this gang problem you speak of, said no one ever.
peter stuhlmiller - HA is quiet in our area, bloods and crips? Don't hear a peep out of them for the most part.... Seems every night it's a person of Hispanic descent's face on the wanted portion of the news....
gina corrales - Lol norteno is not just a Hispanic thing lmao do UR research before u comment
thomas lopez - Easy be involved with your kids put them in sports stop the cycle! It starts at home! We learn from the past to fix the future.
amanda campbell-johnson - Seriously?! What good is the arguing doing besides creating more hate? Knock it off people! This is our community, OURS! Our children grow up here. Black, white, Latino, Mexican, european, pink, purple....does it matter!? We gave a problem here and it starts with us making sure our children are safe. Whether this be how we raise them, their education, etc. it starts with them. Now...moving forward! Just make sure to teach your kid right from wrong, know their friends, interact with your child. A child is also a teen. Be safe.
gina corrales - originated from Mexican gangs ok but now it's mixed ..I've seen plenty of lil white boys running around with a red rag hanging out there pocket so it's not just Mexicans anymore it's ignorant teens or all races
christina m soto - Summer Norteños are actually born here and 3rd or 4th generation in this country. So actually it's not from Mexico.
thomas lopez - We do our part and lead by example there is always gonna be misfortune. Save the ones we can and the ones that want help thats all we can do! There is no fix. Society has morally decade its in our entertainment, music, sports, video games etc. Almost as this was done by design.
theresa medina - It all starts at home !
- What are your thoughts on this controversy?
It's going to be a mile and half of community i (Type: photo | Published: 2013-10-04T23:02:20+0000)
Central Coast News KION: What are your thoughts on this controversy?
It's going to be a mile and half of community interaction. Sunday, Alisal Street will be closed to traffic from Salinas Street to Sanborn for a community event called Ciclovia.
But after a year and half of planning, SUBA wants to shut the event down. Read the details >>>>> http://bit.ly/1e0baL3Comments:
al espindola - This event called Ciclovia will bring the city of Salinas together. The planning that has taken place to put this on was well vented with the Alisal Business Community and in no way should it be cancelled or have the route shortened. The sponsors of this event have worked hard with not just the youth of the community but the adults that have put in many hours of hard work to make this happen. I just wish the Alisal Business Community and the Ciclovia Committee members would work this out and come together for the betterment of The Alisal and the City of Salinas.
crizto niner hdz - You know what really matters this Sunday?? 49ERS football baby!! yeahh!!!
melody anne - Never heard of that event. You'd think after a year and a half of planning there would be some advertisement lol
nichola swanson - Let em ride. It will bring people in to the area who rarely frequent the neighborhood, and when people are riding or walking (instead of driving) they will see more of the local businesses and may return in the future..
fernando andrade - Hey here's an idea instead of businesses chipping in for a big street party how about they chip for the public schools and help our kids education..
cheryl phillips - Who's says the businesses need to close? Wonderful opportunity for foot traffic!! The businesses on south main don't close during parades...
arnaldo pardo - I don't understand. Why can't merchant's stay open. It's good for business, it's good for Cyclovia, and it's for the community. Why must everything be a fight in Salinas. Can't we all just get along.
randy lowther - Alisal businesses should view this event as an opportunity rather than a threat. Instead of people driving by at 30-40 miles an hour, they'll have a chance to interact with MANY more people than they normally would by 2 pm on a Sunday. A little positive attitude will generate plenty of community spirit, something I think would be good with the holidays right around the corner. Negativity cannot possibly help the merchants of Alisal. If I owned a business on Alisal, I'd be out there trying to make a friendly impression on people I'd never otherwise have the chance to do business with! :)
sandy mcclellan whittle - It seems that this is an issue with the SUBA board members communicating with their members. As far as no advertising......I have seen Ciclovia signs all over Salinas for weeks, the Salinas Californian has run more than one article on the event, there has been "news" of the upcoming event on local TV stations, radio stations and on Facebook. If some folks choose to live in a bubble and avoid all types of media communication I'm not sure what could have been any different.
shelly crandon - Kinda sad with so much violence and separation in Salinas more people care about football than about event that can unite people.
nancy perez - I support this event and think its a beautiful way to bring people together, but it's also important to realize that most business owners were just informed about the actual event (which is this Sunday Oct. 6th) about a week ago (2weeks max). When a street is closed- businesses lose A LOT of money (and that street just had a festival about two weeks ago (El Grito). In my opinion, that's why business owners aren't being as supportive of the event. I, myself have not heard any advertisement for the event and it seems like I'm not alone^ it's really a tragedy that instead of uniting a city, an event is discouraging business owners from getting involved in their own community. Seems like their was a lack of advertisement/push on the business owners side and the organizers just expected businesses to be supportive. Yes, there will be more people on the streets, thus hopefully more exposure... But the majority of Alisal street already has longstanding clientele w/in the community and there will be money lost (on business end). More "convincing" and push on the benefits needed to have happened. All should benefit from an event, especially if you want an event to go on every year.
brandy hurst - Hmmmm funding is available for patrol units? 0.o
rosemary soto - Ciclovía is a youth led event. Knowing this fact is enough reason to support it by showing up and being part of creating a sense of community. Salinas needs this. Despite this challenge, the youth organizers are holding their own and their work should be commended. I'll be there and I hope you will too.
daniel valenzuela - This is what the future looks like. People uniting and enjoying a car free environment. This is what it is all about. John Kennedy once said "there is nothing better than the simple pleasure of riding a bicycle " our street need to go on a diet making all streets community friendly bicycle friendly, walker friendly, jogger friendly. Motorist do not own the streets , people of the community do. Lets bring peace love and happiness back to our wonderful California cities in a car free fashion. Salinas will be creating history.....one love. :)
mily thethrill vasquez - they do this in most major cities. Salinas should just let it happen - no harm and encourages community to come out!
brandi renee - Let it happen! The community needs this and it will benefit the merchants because more people will be out and likely will buy!
ina bock layus - If they wanted to bring the City together, why was this event not advertised? I've seen the signs announcing that Alisal would be closed, but no explanation as to why???? Think this could have been advertised better?
walter hawthorne - No harm. let it happen! Long as there's no violence, I say let it RIDE!
daniel valenzuela - These events are changing the community for for the better. It increases business profit in the community, promotes a healthful life style, units the community and is environmental friendly. Over 500,000 people have attended this event in l.a. and each time its getting bigger. I'm delighted that salinas is getting on board with this positive life style. Believe it or not bicycles are changing the world. Power to the people!! :)
brandi renee - This will help kids by seeing a community united! This promotes not only unity, but healthy living by riding bikes and walking! Look up ciclavia Fernando Andrade and see what they do for the community!
tina marie oliverez - It's been advertised for awhile. SUBA knew about the times, but now want to change it at the last minute.
- The government is now in its third day of a partial shutdown and some government employees are (Type: photo | Published: 2013-10-04T00:36:12+0000)
Central Coast News KION: The government is now in its third day of a partial shutdown and some government employees are not getting paid.
What would you do if your job stopped paying you?Comments:
conspiracy loera - If rents due on the 1st and they don't get their pay check how do they pay rent? Don't matter if they get it later or not bills don't stop or get delayed.
central coast news kion - Roger- federal workers do not get paid during a government shutdown. Except of course the elected officials. Backpay has nothing to do with this post.
elisabeth larson - Apply for unemployment like the furloughed federal workers.
nicole arambula - Let me clarify since I am a government employee we are furloughed not getting paid, whenever shutdown is lifted then we get paid. We are tax paying citizens just like civilian employees and dont deserve IOU's. We all have obligations and need our paychecks!
nicole arambula - People are ignorant its not worth wasting ur breath!! Thats whats wrong with this world narrow minded people.. Grow up and make the World a better place its hatefullness that makes people UGLY!
elena zavala - Wow.. some people are a special kind of stupid.
elena zavala - Roger. .just shut your ignorant mouth..I'm a government employee who is reporting to work knowing I won't get a check until budget is passed..I have a family a mortgage along other bills many of us have. This will have an impact on many families. .maybe not yours which is why you speak so ignorantly..but it's not JUST a delay. So if u can see this bird i got for u which I know u can't..but trust me it's there..there's your source. :)
debbie porzig - It sucks ... Not knowing if will get our next paycheck. Being without work ..and children to feed its really hard.
alan jump - What I want to know is why Congress is still getting paid.
elena zavala - THE ONES CAUSING IT ARE GETTING PAID . . ITS THE REGULAR PEOPLE THAT WORK FOR GOVERNMENT THAT ARE BEING SCREWED OVER.. .. god people do some research before u flap them jaws.
elena zavala - Piss off?!? Wow lol.. like I said..a special kind of stupid. .
mykal lowe - The real question is why is the context of the shutdown placed on Democrats? The entire shutdown is on the basis of senate republicans circumventing "The Affordable Care Act"....A constitutional Law that was passed and then approved by the judiciary branch. To "negotiate" a law is in plain terms Breaking it. It sounds like Governing By extortion.
geneve valle - Hi,
I signed a petition to The United States House of Representatives and The United States Senate which says:
"I demand that members of Congress NOT get paid during a self-inflicted government shutdown. It is morally reprehensible that hardworking federal employees will stop receiving the paychecks they need to feed their families and pay their mortgages, while Congress still gets paid for refusing to do the job they were elected to do."
Will you sign this petition? Click here:
becky pimentel - Tough times. Hope it will not be long. I feel for those who depend on getting paid on time.
freenie garcia - Id register for unemployment... Unless that is shut down as well... If thats the case, then id take all my money and go live in the mountains. Haha
susan clizbe - Too funny, Elisabeth - I'm reading this taking a break from filling out the California UI form for federal workers ....
jesse cervantes - Getting paid stops a lot for the common person!!!! It's about time they feel our PAIN!!!
mary pat kolupski - apply for unemployment and stop working
lome visesio - @Kini I need some seeds!!
lome visesio - I have children and wouldn't know what to do except lean on family! Good luck to the people who are going threw this. Seems like as government employees you should have had a heads up this was gonna happen.
kathy m smith - They can APPLY for unemployment, but there us no guarantee they will get it! There is also a 1week waiting period before you can apply....then lord knows how long to have your case reviewed.....meaning no monies coming in!!! Also.....no guarantees of getting back pay either!! Monterey County Food Bank can be a help, as well as local churches
- WHAT DO YOU THINK? Governor Jerry Brown signed a bill that would allow undocumented immigrants (Type: link | Published: 2013-10-03T22:40:15+0000)
Central Coast News KION: WHAT DO YOU THINK? Governor Jerry Brown signed a bill that would allow undocumented immigrants to apply for a driver's license in California. Supporters of the new law say that it will increase safety by ensuring that all drivers are properly trained and are insured. Assemblymember Luis Alejo will be on Central Coast News KION at 6. If you have any questions for him about this new law, post in the comments.Comments:
carlos m perales - That is a great idea and law. If some of the undocumented workers already pay taxes (to CA and federal) why not have them obtain an ID/DL that will ensure the safety of the community and roads.
carlos m perales - Johnathan Olsen; there are lots of horrible drivers but generalizing that they are all undocumented is probably an understatement and yes it be great if they get a DL to have them obtain insurance and that is good in case they do crash. Linda Miller; am sure they will. Most people do carry the proper insurance or want to. Liz Cortez as for getting their DL and catching them and deporting them; really? Have you noticed your last name? It comes from a heritage that in most cases is Latino/Mexican (decent) Faviola Alfaro, if they don't pass the driving test (they don't) but then if they don't and they get caught, am sure the police will do their job to provided a ticket or do it justice based on the law. This is a great step for those who want in little small way have the roads be safe.
manny luna - It's funny that the words "undocumented immigrant" is linked to Mexicans. Like if they're the only illegals here in California.
sandra gallardo-delgado - For those of you with such harsh comments. Stop and think of where you, and ALL of your family come from, and accept it don' t deny your ethnicity. I am almost 100% sure most of the negative comments are from those that aren't 100% american. Not only Mexicans come to the U.S.A. illegally, but also Germans, Irish, Chinese, British, just to name a few.
nancy perez - If anyone is looking for a job they're hiring at almost ALL agricultural companies in the central coast. Due to the harsh border control and unsafety and criminalization of HUMANS, a lot of people who used to migrate are choosing to stay back. There's actually not enough people picking the crops, so prices will likely go up bc of that (as they have already). We are not taking YOUR supposed American jobs. And, people that are undocumented DO in fact, pay taxes- even if they provide a fake SS#, tax money is withdrawn from every check-- if anything, undocummented people are jipped bc they will never get Retirement, Medicaid, etc. AND undocummented people pay SALES tax everytime they buy something- actually contributing to the supposed economy we have. About time this law passed! It's astonishing how people throughout time have always nit-picked at a certain communities out of FEAR! Can't wait til I'm old[er] & we're looking back at the books and realize how inhumane & unjust our "American" society is/was.
yolanda preciado gutierrez - Undocumented wrkrs pick ur fruits and veggies from fields cause u dont want to dirty or bend down to do it. I applause the gov. :-). For finally doing something smart
manuel gordo bustos - Question: Was the Mayflower Crew, Pilgrims to Be Exact Invited Over By Native Americans??? Did they Had Passports And Where they Legally To Stay In This Land? Nope I thought So... Nobody is taking anything away you Xenophobic Prejudist Closed Minded Fools: Where Are Buying Back Piece By Piece... Wherever They Go they boost up the Economy just do a field study and see for yourself!!!
mark saucedo - Stop hating get over it America was built off immigrants and always will keep growing cause of immigrants. Wat y'all think your food pics itself hell naw its back breaking labor that you CITIZENS OF AMERICA dnt want to do and never will so there for will always be work for them so get over it
deirdre duncan-bascou - be careful what you wish for. at this pace, we will be facing a serious shortage of hard workers to pick and plant our FOOD!!!!! do you have any ideas how blessed we are to have "those" people here to do that work!?! driving through the salinas valley I can tell you that there aren't a lot of "white" faces working in those fields..... among a myriad of other jobs too good for "American citizens". get over yourselves!!!!!! i Every white person in this country is the descendent of illegal aliens!!!! or did the Pilgrims have visas!?
chuy lopez gonzalez - Cant argue with fact that yes it is true that illegal immigrants are breaking the law by being here, but come on people don't fool yourself's the reason why this country is still standing, and we still have the jobs we do is because of the great diversity we have. If all the field workers in america went back to their country, our economy would collapse worse than that of a third world country. stop hating! its a good thing, drivers license for undocumented human beings is gonna bring more money to the state, and we all know it needs it! how sad there's people still feed on hate! and for those of you saying that they wouldnt give you a license in mexico if you lived there, wtf do you know!? you obviously never lived in mexico you fools! yes there are requirements over there but if you follow them they will give you a license! there are over 1,000,000, yes over 1,000,000 american citizens that live in Mexico, most of them retired. ask one of them!
johnathan olsen - Don't know about making roads safer there a lot of licensed drivers who are horrible at driving but atleast it'll make sure they have proper insurance when they do crash
manuel gordo bustos - De a Aqui No Nos Sacan Ni A Chingadazos... We're Here To Buy Back What You Guys Stole From Us With The Chump Change Your Ratas Gave To Santa Ana! Just Like You Guys Came to The Now Called Fremont's Peak To Steal San Juan Bautista. Shame on you people read about Malicious history & Robing Ways since you came to an already owned by Natives Land.
nancy resendiz espinola - Come on don't be racist and yes DL for all the hard workers here in Cali !!!
arturo navar - Ignorant haters are funnyfucks.
The US needs immigrants, needs em. Immigrants are here to stay. Get used to it.
Gokd info gordo bustos.
jennifer banchero olds - Of course Luis Alejo is all for it - he's trying to give them the entire State, little by little. At this point, they have no reason to even try to come here legally because there are little repercussions for being here illegally.
niels andrews - The U.S. is fast becoming a third world country. Complete with the bribery and corruption, lawlessness and lack of ethics .
manuel gordo bustos - Just in cAse you want hard facts done by a Mediocre University http://www.nytimes.com/2013/05/30/health/immigrants-give-more-to-medicare-than-they-receive-a-study-finds.html?pagewanted=all
luis e. salazar - I'm glad that finally something is happening.. Even tho there are a lot of idiots that don't know what it's like to have to drive at 3 a.m & get pull over just cause it's to early to goto the fields so the haters can go buy their expensive produce at whole foods!!!!
monty matteson - Hmm break the law and be given a privilege. Wonder why criminals feel empowered to do what they do. As a society we reward them. Anybody want to bet how long before some lawyer fight a felony DUI suspension because other felons are allowed a license? Sorry. Making excuses for people breaking the law is a slippery slope. If you want to be compassionate work to change the law not condone breaking it because you don't agree with it.
lysbeth sanchez - Im glad they are now having licenses; so they dont have to worry about their car getting taken away

celiasue hecht - NO, they should NOT be getting paid. the GOp's salaries should be donated to FEED THE HUNGRY mothers, babies, and vets, disabled, seniors, anyone affected by this shutdown ... FOOD IS ESSENTIAL !!!!!!
starving mothers and babies all for the sake of denying healthcare for all... despicable !!!!!!
daniel ortiz - Epic failure!! except for the few members who voluntarily refused to be paid during the shutdown. I'm sure Washington will feel the wrath of the voters in the next elections.
brad hillier - Leave it to them to protect them selves..
sammy rivera - Wow that is ridiculous greed is a disease! And our founding fathers of this beautiful country would disgraced to see what it's becoming!!
tanya lewis - No congress should NOT! Don't they have more than enough money anyways... I'm sure something would change fast if they weren't getting a check
todd krempasky - Sammy Rivera and Karen Karen Autry Woodson... sadly, it was part of our founding fathers that put the 27th amendment into place in the late 1800's. There have been ratifications made to amendments in the past, but this one would need to go through the proper channels to become ratified so as to not pay them if a budget has not been reached.
juanita catherine oliver - I think we need to make a new amendment that has a cap on how much above minimum wage the should get and when they leave after 2 years they get no pensions
jerry malagon - That's just like me refusing to go to work and demanding a paycheck... Why does this not make any sense!
alexandra doherty - I don't know much about this.. But giving them the benefit of the doubt, aren't they still "working?" I mean, they're still trying to come to some kind of agreement right? In my opinion, they should have their pay withheld or delayed just like all the other federal employees. But I don't necessarily agree that they shouldn't be getting paid at all.
bridget lazenby - Let's shutdown congress all 666 members of them, they would't go one day with out heir pay or benifits.
martin marty reynon - Bola de pendejos
eddie alvarez - I want my taxes back!!!
larry pace - and take away their health care and let them get what we get.
gaby solorzano - that's pretty messed up! they don't live paycheck by paycheck and can afford it. Should be for them only since they're the ones with the bright idea :/
brenda crowell - NO PAYCHECKS FOR THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
astrid sotelo - No work done then they should not get paid, just like any other working people. They sure get enough money anyway, they can life without the free stuff they hog up.
todd krempasky - It is because of the 27th Amendment... The 27th Amendment stipulates that members of the Congress are not permitted to adjust their respective wage earnings in the middle of a term; in the event of a proposed wage adjustment, members of Congress must address any or all concerns with regard to wage adjustment prior to the starting of a new Congressional term.
samantha branco puanani - I want my paycheck on time
jergens mcgee - Bcuz those criminals set the laws that way! When election season comes around...i will not vote for incumbents! We are part of the blame bcuz we continue to vote these idiots n office (if our vote really counts)
tony peña - I want a credit on my federal taxes!!

joy lucido - Sorry, but those that failed to decide should be the ones going without pay until they can make an educated decision.
alex rivera - Does that mean all my cousins in mexico can just walk through the border?...vamonos!!!!!
bruce clausen - Thanks Obama! You F***in idiot...
leonor ybarra - So disgusted with all of them!! Send them back to preschoool so that they learn how to share and work together
jennifer deane dimaggio - They say all "Non-Essential" government employees...let's think...if they're "Non-Essential" why the hell are we paying for them?!?!?!!!!!!
eddie alvarez - Bills will be coming late whoooo whooooo!!
jesse mabalot - So we are still screwed right?
ryan berry - It's not all Obama's fault people. There is a little group called Republicans that aren't compromising either.
dennis plummer - Suspend thier pay until they balance the budget. It has been years since our federal gov. Has had a balanced budget. So they vote every year to continue spending.. so this year they hold the vote hostage with conditions. Fire them all. Lets start over, balance the budget and quit passing the mess to the next generation.
lea lebow - The bottomline is the top 1 per cent run our government. No equality. Our founding fathers are turning in their graves. Our political system is so broken and faulty that the American Dream is dead. Face it folks. America is falling apart any hope for economical recovery and supporting a middle class is done. We can only support ourselves as in community and family. That is it. Plan ahead reach out to your neighbor. Support local communities. Enough said. It's a sad day. It's been sad since 2007 and it's only going to get worse.
sarah sherwood - These politicians shouldn't get paid while it's shut down. Not like it would hurt there 6 figure pocket books too much, but that would obviously change this spending bill agreement.
rick tuialuuluu - Well the Republican's got what they wanted, they wanted to hold the country hostage so they could defund Obamacare. Yet who do they blame...........Obama!
tom lynch - - Remember... this entire bunch in Washington was elected to office by us.
patti batt - I can't even wrap my head around how this could happen.... OH WAIT..... It just might have to do with our so called President.
david natureboy garcia - I bet every country in the middle east that receives money from U.S. ain't closing down:-\
jennifer deane dimaggio - Spoken like a true idiot John
aver pre guntame - Silly Berry. Go back to Africa
xavier gonzalez - Is this the purge?
lome visesio - You did say part right? Is it at least the part that pays them! Cause if there not doing there jobs then they should not get paid!
jayme forman shope - Changes need to be made with the house and senate. Their lifetime pay, term limits or lack of, and other extraordinary benefits need to be scaled WAY back so that we can get people in there that WANT to do the job the right way and not just wanting a cushy life for ever more.
yave distancia - Shut down facebook! Then we will pay attention :D

Central Coast News KION: GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN: With hours left to avert a government shutdown, House Republicans on Monday said that they're unwilling to let go of their insistence that a government spending bill include language to dismantle parts of the Affordable Care Act.Comments:
aver pre guntame - Can we shut down Obama instead?
mauri såmano - This whole mess was there prior to Obama. But let's all blame the black guy right?
peter stuhlmiller - If the government shuts down and military personnel stop getting paychecks, Obamma better lose every damn one of his government funded benefits.
jaime clark - Obama ran on the Obamacare platform twice... Twice getting elected. The ppl have spoke. What a bunch of sour losers.
deborah mckinley - I just hope Obama doesn't cave!
dennis plummer - shut it all down until they have a balanced budget. All paid politicians should go on welfare until this is resolved.
celiasue hecht - Defund the GOP NOw
april segura - Hey dumbasses its not Obama's fault your elected republican jackasses won't budge! Stop the republican pay and bonus' and see what happens!
ernie ackley - Defend Obamacare
katharine salinas - Health reform law was already passed..why is the house using this as a "bargaining" meaure?
gregory campbell - if you think about it, all this is over Repubs wanting to prevent poorer Americans from getting affordable insurance.
jeff conlin - Tell me who knows your health better, you or the government? Once the government takes over all decision making over your health care, like they are about to do, they completely own you!
nic reyes - April its a 2way street? Please tell me your just joking.
jaime clark - Once it starts working the idiots will then want to call it Republicare... Some people on here are actually really scary. Continue watching Fox News and getting your information from Glen Beck you morons!
jason herman - If this train wreck called Obamacare goes through, watch how your insurance rates will go up and watch how many doctors shut down shop if they haven't already started to do so now
rafael martinez - Republicans should be fired ASAP
astrid sotelo - Get rid of the republicans and we won't have any problems anymore....
peter stuhlmiller - @john norman are you kidding? Are you trying to imply that the agencies I listed are efficient? Not only are they severely inneficient, they are also untrustworthy. And you obviously don't speak to many middle class old folks, my grandparents rates went up 75% and now way no how make 400% more than the poverty line. They are now forced to chose between their house and health insurance. Is that fair to you? Was the income tax jump at the time of initial implementation just a coincidence? Cause I lose an extra $75 each check. I don't know what you do for work but us that grow your food sure work hard, and like to keep our earnings.
hernan oros - "If a law is unjust, a man is not only right to disobey it, he is obligated to do so." -Thomas Jefferson
francisco rodriguez - Why does this government even spend approx $50billion dollars in foreign aid to countries and to foreign military? It's nice to help out other countries, but that money should stay in the country. Take care of our own FIRST!
roger addy - I wonder if the shutdown will affect the arms shipments to the Al Qaeda backed rebels in Syria? Or is that a high priority?

- MINIMUM WAGE INCREASE: Starting in January of 2016 Californian's earning minimum wage will get (Type: photo | Published: 2013-09-25T22:34:41+0000)
Central Coast News KION: MINIMUM WAGE INCREASE: Starting in January of 2016 Californian's earning minimum wage will get a boost in pay.
Governor Jerry Brown signed a measure to raise California's current $8.00 floor wage to $9.00 on July 1, 2014, and to $10.00 on January 1, 2016.
Do you think this is a good thing or a bad thing? http://www.kionrightnow.com/story/23529384/california-governer-signs-minimum-wage-increaseComments:
ernie ackley - Bad.. all that will happen is prices will rise to compensate for the increase. Basic economics.
adrianna n ramon romero - So exciting for all the field workers who work there butts off and get paid very little ... They deserve it the most! Two thumbs up !
juan a rosales - Rise. Minimum. Wage. Means. Everything. Else. Its. Going. To. Go. Up. At. Groseries. Stores..
karina garcia - Ppl who are already working should get a dollar increase too! >:[
stephanie edge - Oh man I feel for the small business owners, many will be laid off because of this! Not cool at all. If you want to make more money start your own business, minimum wage was never ment to live off of!
caitlin robin rodoni - What does that mean for the people already making 10 an hour? Does that mean they will see an increase since this is only going to raise our cost of living more!?
stephanie diaz - Some people forget that with salary raise, everything else raises as well
stephanie diaz - No offense to anyone. But the way I see it is if minimum wage isn't enough for you better yourself. Go to college get a degree. You can get quick 2 year degrees at Hartnell Central Coast MPC or Heald. Minimum wage isn't meant to be lived off of. It's good for high school students and those wanting experience. Education is key! Remember your education is the one thing No one can ever take away from you.
damion kristopher - Seems good for those who make minimum wage but its a gamble. Who's going to get laid off ? Who's going to get their hours cut ? Which items will go up in cost ? This on top of Obamacare is not a good mix at all. Some small businesses will go out of business. Some will only have a few employee's. More people will be on unemployment. Mark my word...
julie seely - What about people who make more but don't get a cost of living increase
juan manuel mendoza - Do you know how much education costs^ how in the world can you tell people who get minimum wage to get an education
joan renteria - This means more unemployment because company's won't be able to keep up with the pay so they will hire less workers to do the work that more people do for 8 dollars an hour. Which can means less people employed and more people unemployed.
brad goad - If you wanted better pay then better yourself. Minimum wage was fine for the high school student but now immigrants found it is better to work here for minimum wage than in their countries. Education is how you earn more money.
aver pre guntame - Whats the point? Everything else will go up in price to
javier sanchez - Double edge sword....good for people but bad for buisness. Prices will go up and company will do less hiring or even downsize to make up for the diference.
lome visesio - You forgot to mention that everything will rise as well. Bread, cereal, rise, bacon and the big ones rent and gas, thanks Mr Brown;/
stephy reyes - Minimum wage goes up and so does cost of living.
jose linares - This is just gonna make prices go up on everything.
heather starkey - I wish it were good, but it will raise prices. People truly do need to make more $$ just to live here. Especially Santa Cruz or San Fransisco, two of the most expensive places to live in all of USA. It's going to get them more money and cost them more money.
damien alfaro - More bud for me to buy yee Carlos Gomez Jerry Serrano George Gutierrez
gidget guidotti - Stop raising minimum wage!!!! It's not meant to be the primary income! It only causes everything else to go up!
