The Anxiety Disorders Association of Victoria (ADAVIC): Comment from an anonymous poster:- I was taking 1mg of klonopin 3 times a day & I've switched to 1mg of Ativan every 4-6 hours as needed. Has anyone else ever made this change? If so did you have any problems? I just suffered a two hour panic attack, my l started sweating, then all of a suden my heart rate was 170! I went to the ER & left after 2 hours with my heart rate still in the 150's and a blood pressure of 178/110 , I was shocked that they sent me home? After only doing an ekg that the leads were half off, but I'm home now & my heart rate has went down to 86 but I have to have the fan on me all the time, or I poor tg e sweat. They seem to think this could all be from the medicine change, I have been on klonopin for over 5 year's, really regular the past 3 , so has any one else switched from klonopin to ativan? If so please share any story good or bad, thank you!Comments:
Rebecca Phenix - You need to wean off it really slowly. Your body is addicted to it and you're detoxing.
April Flamion - That doesn't sound good or comfortable at all. Try your hardest to relax. It's good they at least did an EKG. Maybe your body went into shock from the change.
Ashley Elizabeth - I went from the ativan to klonopin. Hated ativan! Klonopin has a longer half life too so theyre more effective in my opinion then again I can take 10mg valuim n not be phased. Everyone is different. If you feel side effects you dont like dont hesitate to call ur dr theyre there to help. But I foubd popping ativan every 4-6 hours a day was ridiculous.
Ashley Elizabeth - You are most likely withdrawling. Do you feel weak? Hard to breathe? Seems like you've been jogging in place for an hour? Try upping the ativan.
Melissa Clouser West - I agree! I just made the switch & I'm switching back to Klonopin, @Rebecca, was the doc suppose to wean me off Klonopin before just switching the two?
Loretta Bessant - Yes i have i take adavan now n have for sence i was 19 im 33 now i was taking all the other benzos before adavan they didnt help me with my panic attacks only adavans do.. but u are having withdrawls from the klonipns rt now its a horrible feeling but the adavans will help alot but u should of winged your self of the klopins first its ok to cut the pill down piece by piece so u wont withdrawl so bad .. and still take adavan at same time so one will be getting in your system while the other is slowley leaving your system..
Princess Nana Williams - I tried commiting suicide... By OD. I took 16 Sudafed's all @ once... I had 2 go 2 the ER & my heart rate was 180-190... The dr was afraid I was gna hav a heart attack.. I was 15 @ da time. I'm 16 now.. They put liquid in an IV 2 flush out my system... My body was numb, I couldn't feel anything... & it was HORRIBLE... Thnk God I didn't hav a heart attack & didn't die... I still think bout suicide... But I haven't attempted since then...
Loretta Bessant - The dr should have told u to do this some drs dont care ive learned the hard ways to because of drs not explaining things like this to me
Princess Nana Williams - Ik it's not a panic attack... But ik how u felt...
Connie Elliott - im on 5 mg valuim right now but it might have to b upped. i had felt an attack ''coming'' but the medicine DIDN'T WORK @ ALL. it took my mom n my sister almost 30min. to coax me off the rear end of the fire truck this past thursday night. im not able 2 take ativan cuz the last time i took it,i hallucinated for damn near 8hours solid. :[ oxford, ohioUSA
Pat Womble - Your Dr. Should be instructing you on how to slowly switch from one to the other. I understand that you can't just stop one med like that one and start another because your body needs time to adjust be gradually lowering the dose. Please ask your Dr immediately and if no positive solution ask another.
Liv Lo - Advan is like a Xanax? Or a anti dep like Zoloft ??
Cath Erbs-Mahoney - Liv, Ativan is like Xanax, similar mechanism, longer half life though.
Laura Gelinas - I hate the Ativan I ended up with more attacks and got immune quickly
Linda Vance - hope you feel better
Kellie Armstrong-Huse - I absolutly agree with loretta.. I had to taper by myself low doses even down to a sliver of one pill as i added the other....dr's don't tell u this crap....i searched for months on,the internet n drove myself crazy so i figured it out myself..good luck hun..we are all here to help..it's a long road but u will get there i promise!
Theresa Hickson - I am on effexor and tale klonopin just as needed. Like others said u have to be weaned off klonopin. But sounds like u need a long term med...then once thats in your system i find i dont need the short term meds like ativan or klonopin.
Debbie Little-Hereford - Just started Klonopin 1 mg 2 times a day for the same symptoms you are having that they say are withdrawal so there may be something to that. I asked for Atavan shot and the doc said that would only be a bandaid, didn't know they had oral Atavan.
Rebecca Phenix - My doctor told me When you stop taking klonopin after you have been on it awhile ( and 3 mg a day is a large dose) it's exactly like withdrawing from narcotics. You actually have a risk of death from stopping cold turkey. Most MD's do not know enough about these psyc meds
Salvador Davalos Jr - Ativan, xanax, klonopin, they are all benzodiazepines, changing from one to another shouldn't be any difference. What you had wasn't withdrawal symptoms at all, it was just a bad panic attack, I've been taking lorazepam (ativan) for over ten years as needed for panic/anxiety attacks i started at 1mg every 8 hours, but after so many years your body builds a tolerance, now i take 3mg every 8 hours as needed, and thats only when my anxiety is overwhelming. Sure they are addictive if your not on a antidepressant, like zoloft, Prozac etc.
Merlyn Smith-Gladue - I am surprised that your doctor changed you from one to another, you need to discuss that with your medical professional--that is too much of a drastic change--your body is definitely reacting to the change :(

Mary Holley - Thank you Tamara xx
Vikkitinkerbell Pixiedust Barrs - I think I have an anxiey disorder not sure xx
RaeGina Ricciardi Bendler - When I go to sleep at night I have morbid thoughts.....terrible horrific thought that I have to pray for God to take away......any suggestions are welcomed..... don't know how to shake it
Kristen Louise - I get 'fuzzy' for weeks at a time. I function as on auto pilot...but when I come out the other side its like Ive been asleep for weeks! !
Deane Cooper - I have teenager with anxiety unsure if tablets are working ...do the meds make much change??
Thea Waugh Brown - I messaged u. Did u see it!
Barbie Dice Manning - RaeGina, sounds like Obsessive thinking part of OCD. Distractions work and I also learned from a book called "Brain Lock" to say to yourself "it's not me, it's my OCD".
It's all part of anxiety. A trick a professor taught was to try to make yourself more anxious when anxious. Very hard to do once you become conscious of it. Instead of becoming panicked by your thoughts, observe them, and let them go. Hope something here was helpful.
Michele Hill - @Deane Cooper, depends on the medicine. It works well for some, but others have to try different ones to find the right one. Once you do, meds can made a huge difference. Zoloft works well for my depression & anxiety!!
James Batten - I get attacks when i drive an i feel like im gonna have a seizure or sumthin gonna just happen out of nowhere, its hard to be alone i think of horrible thought an i get attack almost anywhere ...
Maria Abrego Pimentel - i been dealing with anxiety since 15 yrs old now im 32 it goes and comes it came back because of stress i also have a child who is autistic and shoes signs of anxiety when having his tatrums sometimes im scared to drive but i push myself to face my fears...
Amber Biars - James buddy I am so there with u! You are not alone! I feel the EXACT. Same way as you!! If my back starts hurting or my jaw I automatically assume I'm gonna have a heart attack, or if I start to tremble I think I'm gonna have a seizure. My heart races, I sweat my entire body feels like someone lit it on fire... I shake.. It is simply TERRIFYING! Feel free to add me if you want, if you ever need to talk I'm here!!!
Maria Abrego Pimentel - @james i can relate to u on that im scared to drive but.sometimes like i said we need to face those fears i always try say to myself nothing is going to happen to me it is all in my head then the next day it happens again and i start thinking im still here.and nothing happened.all this.is just in our heads , i been taking herbal teas instead.if meds.they.seem to help and self therapy too.
Maria Abrego Pimentel - add me also on fb we can all help each other we understand each other :)
Hope Waltemyer - I have agoraphobia and gad and a couple other issues that relate .....I have tried everything. Amber Biars - Yes I've been going through it for almost 6 years now. Since I started having kids.. And I have 3 kids now, and every kid I had it got worse and worse! I think support groups are so excellent! Nice to know we aren't alone guys! Anyone feel free to add me on here ... :)
Amber Biars - I'll be praying for us all!!
Myah Platt - I have had anxiety as long as I can remember but was diagnosed at 18 now I'm 38... It seems to be worse the older I get but so grateful I stumbled on to this site... It's so nice to know I'm not alone...
Maria Abrego Pimentel - we all need to think positive , stay positive and focused we all have someone that needs us in thier life ..... heres quote i love " if u have anxiety you are thinking too much about.the future , if u have depresssion your thinking too much about.the past , if u are at peace then you are thinking about the present " and here my lovely people is were we need to be living and loving life .
Nadirah Rashada - I just had a anxiety attack. I was trying to go to sleep but was either dreaming I was going to have bad dreams or was thinking of having bad dreams as I felt myself drifting off. I could feel the tension through my entire body. Then I felt the need to vomit. For some reason when I get like this and do vomit the anxiousness almost immediately goes away. I'm starting to think is there a connection with my anxiety and my GERD. This absolutely sucks.
- Question Cynthia Pulsifer
I'm really new to this anxiety stuff, still have the new car smell a (Type: status | Published: 2013-06-18T10:42:38+0000 | Likes: 41 | Shares: 0)
The Anxiety Disorders Association of Victoria (ADAVIC): Question Cynthia Pulsifer I'm really new to this anxiety stuff, still have the new car smell and everything, (jk) so my question is does anyone know if anxiety attacks can be "time-delayed"? where they happen hours after an event? please and thank you. I'm at a loss how else to explain it. and/or can exhaustion trigger such an attack. thank you.Comments:
Cherie Davis - Yes to both of ur questions
Liz Cusack - God yes....called supresson by your mind...after the shock has warn off, the adrenalin isnt there so the suppressed feelings can 'reveal' themselves....
Tom Pearce - Yes. Also particular triggers can 'set off' anxiety attacks that mirror the original stress e.g. being bullied, feelings of abandonment, inappropriate touching, riding in the front passenger seat of a car etc
Laura Denise Phillips - yes, as in the ptsd. AND with the triggers....thanks all people for ur intelligent answers too
Rachel McClatchie - I wake up the next day, after a triggering incident, in an attack x
Karla Stamp Regas - They absolutely can be. In my opinion, it depends on how long it takes you to digest what caused the actual anxiety. This hits home for me HUGE!!! I hear ya loud and clear =)
Ricki Jo Baker - yes they can happen any time, just depends on what set them off. I had them in the middle of the night. wake up can't breathe, sweeting. they r crazy.
Annie Luces - yes i get them randomly it drves me mad any way i only take a tablet when i get them and its not so bad now
Jenny Gordon - yes tiredness is not a good thing!!!
Karla Stamp Regas - Always hits me when I jump out of my busy life box and KABOOM!!!
Hope Waltemyer - Yes I can be in a heated argument and have no panic and 3 hrs or what ever later I will have one like a brick hit my head.....it sucks .... just try to breath thru it . I always said when i get over this I will start a foundation for ppl like me !!!!!!!!
Patty Kopack - Yes they can. If your body is in that fight or flight mode for a period of time and then you hit some calm time, your body is still in fight or flight mode...it happens to me after a period of stress.
Amanda Helms - I am glad to know that I am not alone with anxiety and panic attacks.
Brent Lee Coin - They can happen anytime and anywhere! I've even had them during a deep sleep to which I jump out if bed and am delirious! It's a vicious cycle! Thankful I'm not alone!
Kristen Kondash Johnson - I have suffered anexity and panic attacks for a couple yrs now! And let me tell you I wouldn't wish them on my worst enemy! I hate feeling scared I get them bad in the morning before I go to work! When I'm home I'm ok I feel safe but as soon as I leave my house I start feeling panic! It's has gotten better with taking celexa and kpins
Kristen Kondash Johnson - I even have a 17 month old daughter and I wan to take her to the beach this summer but god I hope I can do it!
Chris Crosson - Yes, I've had attacks that last all day and night. Your body is in fight or flight mode or another way to explain it, your nerves are over sensitized. You are not alone and you can get through this. :-)
Mechelle Pie Coleman Hahn - Finally, a page for me!!!!
Erin Gallagher Drouin - Cynthia, absolutely!! For me it is sometimes when I am at my most relaxed. Comes out of no where!!! Not fun but as long as you know what it is it makes it less scary
Sally-Anne Caban - Sadly they can happen any time and in any mood. I've had them at all hours of the day or night and even to the extent that I have literally jumped out of bed clutching my throat and for the next X amount of time (sometimes only minutes but sometimes hours) I'm over come with it. I'd try and figure out if you have any triggers and if you can do that you might be able to find away to manage them. I know my triggers and depending on how bad they are depends on how I can manage them. But remember you're not alone :)
Helen Missy Luckett - yes deffo, stress bein tiried ect can trigger them, for instant ive not had a bad attack for a while coz of the meds, but my little girl had a fall over the wkend so i woz with her in a+e turned out she only pulled muscles but it wasnt till the nxt day the attack came all at once and i knew it was comin coz there woz a build up if ya like, but it upset the kids coz i woz in such a mess bless em, i take amitriptilin in the nite coz i cant shut down and they stop the attacks in the nite,xx
