- More and more people are adopting a gluten-free diet - whether they need to for medical reasons (Type: status | Published: 2013-08-19T11:06:34+0000 | Likes: 116 | Shares: 13)
KSL 5 TV: More and more people are adopting a gluten-free diet - whether they need to for medical reasons or not. Today on KSL AM, Bill Gephardt talks to doctors about the health benefits and risks associated with going gluten-free. Have you ever tried taking the wheat out of your diet?Comments:
Catina Cecchini Haverlock - Katherine Storey Bronson If only wheat were the same today as it were 200 years ago. We took wheat (which is highly inflammatory) out of my mom's diet and saw the following: 25 pound weight loss in 2 months, remission of arthritis, disappearance of back pain which had plagued her over a decade, a foot which had swelled for over 20 years, not swell anymore, off of her Nexium, off of her blood pressure medication. More and more we are learning that for those with auto-immune and/or inflammatory issues, wheat is death. Research Monsanto, which controls all wheat grain. All of it. And genetically modifies the crap out of it too. God doesn't change, but wheat sure has.
Cindy Sward Lemon - @Tim Reed, do a little research on how our wheat has been modified. It definitely is not the same wheat our grandparents used.
Madeline Freeman - If you have celiac disease wheat certainly will kill you. I agree that for some it is a fad. But for others eating gluten free is a necessity.
Karyn Vincent - There are no "risks" to living a gluten-free lifestyle. *rolling eyes at KSL*
Jen Profaizer Crook - I wonder how safe xanthun gum is though? It's a chemically made compound that acts as a bonding agent in gluten free food. Maybe everyone is trading in a natural by product of wheat for more chemicals. I'm not jumping on this fad. While true Celiac's need to for survival, this whole movement feels and looks like a fad waiting to backfire someday... I'll just continue to eat all foods in moderation.
Angelina Peña Nelson - I'm super low starch. The bread I get for my family is sprouted wheat I think the problem with our food in America is the dramatic processing of everything we eat. Too many steroids, to much antibiotics, too much hybrid seed. Our bodies can't keep up with the changing food. We grow a garden, eat natural beef, and basically avoid corn, wheat, rice and processed foods.
Madeline Freeman - I have celiac disease so for me it is a moot point whether I eat GF or not. My only problem is eating a GF diet is expensive.
Tim Reed - Funny how some people want to blame pharmaceutical companies and the govt as a conspiracy to eat wheat. We as humans have been eating it for thousands of years. Moderation in all things is a motto to live by
Adrianne Jacobsen - It's a personal choice for people. U die if u eat healthy, u die if u don't. It's all the same!!!
Janet Ray Graham - It may have been the staff of life, but as its proteins have been modified it has become a major allergen. I have a daughter who has celiac disease and both of her children are sensitive to wheat. I know a lot of people, myself included who feel much better when avoiding foods with gluten.
Pamela Harmon Castagna - The only "risks" are that as more people go gluten or wheat free, for whatever reason, the more processed products pop up on the shelves. Over-hybridization of the wheat combined with over-processing of it for shelf products is the likely cause of this intolerance explosion. The same thing could very well end up happening to corn (GMO) and rice (arsenic) what most gluten-free products are made from. Going gluten-free does not have to be as restrictive or costly as some make it out to be. Eat REAL food, stay away from the processed stuff as much as possible.
Tim Heare - I wonder how many people actually have a medical diagnosis of ciliac's disease, and how many have "self diagnosed" be cause they want to blame something for health issues. I thought I might have it, my doctor tested, and I don't (turns out I just have developed lactose issues). He said true ciliac's disease is not very common.
Leslie James - Eating whole wheat toast right now
Katherine Storey Bronson - Wheat is the staff of life.
Stacey Fabros - Wheat isn't food. Not for humans or animals. You only have to listen to Dr. Lane Sebring for five minutes or watch the documentary "The Perfect Human Diet" to figure out how nutrition "experts," a medical education system that is controlled by the pharmaceutical industry, and the federal government's Food Pyramid are making us sick and killing us. I've been eating paleo for only 4 weeks and my serum cholesterol has already dropped 30 points. My vision has improved and I have more energy.
Brad Bradley - Less than 2% of the population have a gluten problem... the other 98% of the population is tired of hearing about it.
Brad Bradley - As long as it's NOT bacon free...
Barbara Parkinson Mathews - Gluten free for me means...
Digestion problem solved
Cassandra Nelson Bowers - I have been gluten free for almost a year. I quit eating it to see if it helped me feel better, and it did. My feet no longer swell, my digestion is much better, and I overall feel much better. I can tell when I eat some by mistake, because I feel sick. I'm glad that it is becoming more popular because that means there are a lot more choices out there that are gluten free.
Bryan E Wilson - I have read Wheat Belly and I think it is a farce. Talk about fear mongering. The rule is all things in moderation. Excercise and eat smart and I promise wheat wont kill you.
Amanda Eskeets - I'm allergic to most gluten substitutes, along with many other foods. Wheat products are one of the few things I CAN eat. I'm beyond ready for this trend to go away. It would be nice to eat food for a change. Should some people be gluten-free for health reasons? Of course. But the majority of people don't. If you want to find something that causes health problems look at additives like MSG and Soy. Soy is creeping into everything- it's almost impossible to find store bought bread without it.

KSL 5 TV: Would you want your coworkers to know how much you make? Coming up on the Browser 5.0 at 12:30 we will look at why one company is going with total salary transparency, and why the practice could become commonplace. Let us know what you think about the idea, and we may share your comment on air.Comments:
Kirsi Driscoll - In my opinion, the best balance is to release the pay ranges for certain positions, but not specific information for each person.
Beth Hunsaker Garn - It's a great idea and could help close the gender wage gap.
Matt Caldwell - It causes drama every place I have worked at. Bad idea
Jami Granger Hunt - I think it could have possibilities, if it forced a company to give equal pay for equal work. More than once I have trained someone at a previous company, only to find out after they left that I had been making less money. I'm thinking that if I'M the one with the experience to train them, then I should be paid more...
Jen Profaizer Crook - Oh my heavens no! Why would that even be a good idea?
Linda Walter Rowley - I have always wondered why it was a secret. If your pay is up and you are a lazy employee this might give you a boost to work harder.
Heather Hiestand Stites - This reminds me of the "everyone gets a trophy and an A if they show up" mentality. Equal pay for equal work sounds like a good idea, but the problem is that some people's idea of equal is not even close to it. Honestly, a private company has the right to decide what to pay people and it's no one's business what another's salary is.
Ralph Phillip Perea - Great Idea!! I think it will equal out the workplace. The company willl have to make sure they have documentation of why each person make X amount. It will force this company to follow equal pay for equal work.
Don Love - Already happens for those who work for the State of Utah. It's on the internet, names and yearly salaries. Not the employee's choice to share I'm sure, but someone thought it important enough to know other people's business to insist it be public knowledge. Job titles and salaries -- maybe ok- with specific names...no.
Chris Cram - There are some things to be kept private, doesn't mean it is a secret just private. What I earn and what I spend is not my co-workers business. I have absolute no desire to know what they earn, it none of my business. Out of respect it should maintain privacy.
Karen Hymas Gillmore - Because I didn't know to negotiate my salary when I started my career, I unwittingly put myself in a lower salary track. As I worked my way up I learned it was company policy to not raise a salary more than 4% per year. I was making far less than others. Perhaps this policy would inspire companies to pay everyone in the position closer to the same.
April Larson - I bet those saying bad idea are the ones making the higher wages in their field, & those saying do it are the hard working lower paid. Usually those afraid of losing something want to keep it to themselves. I say do it, make pay equal to how hard you work, not who you know & let everyone see it.
Melanie Brown - no way!! this causes way too much drama in the workplace.
Amanda Montoya - My financial affairs are mine and my partner's business. My co-workers do not need to know what I make and I really don't care to know what they make.
Heather Parker - Military has been doing it for years GET OVER IT PEOPLE .... if your salary is your identity youve got problems!!!
Rebecca Zaugg - Highly inappropriate, for many reasons. /HR Manager
Pat Jones Soper - Wrong. I think we should be able to see what public employees are paid but not in the private sector. Private is just that ~ private.
Gail Fletcher Tanner - No way!! Wages should never be transparent. Besides, raises and/or bonuses can change the numbers. Some employees just plain work harder than others and should be compensated for it. I think it would cause a lot of employee to employee contention and outrage if wages were transparent..
April Larson - I find it funny all these adults saying there will be issues because of differences in pay. Yes, if cutie started 3months ago, slacks, & makes more than someone that works hard, & has been there 5yrs. But that is the practice that wouuld be stopped by knowing everyones pay. Your starting wage should go off of your experience. Raises should go off of how hard & well you do your job. It's simple. You should be paid what your worth & how hard you work. Not your gender, not just how long you've been there, not your looks, ect. Why would knowing wages & that they are fair cause problems?
Julie Miller - I think it could create jealousy in the work place. People working the same job without equal pay could create massive problems. Especially those who don't pull their weight and every place has someone like this. No body needs to know what another person makes.
Terry Gordon Jones - Then they should release the salaries of CEO's and managers as well....

KSL 5 TV: On Sunday Edition at 9 a.m. we look at an anniversary of fires that gripped the nation's attention. It's the 25th anniversary of the 1988 Yellowstone wildfires. What are your memories of the fires?Comments:
Ray S. Ormond - They waited WAY too long to start fighting it. All the ultra-tree-huggers wanted it to "burn naturally", which was total foolishness! You don't declare something a "National Treasure", then let it go up in flames. Dumb!
Wendy McDaniel - We lived in Sugar City Idaho (by Rexburg Idaho) at the time, and my dad was a volunteer firefighter in the 1988 Yellowstone fire. I will never forget praying for his safety every day, all day it seemed, and also how eerily red orange the sun, and especially the moon looked from the raging fire and smoke. One story my dad told that scared us from EVER setting any unnecessary fires, was how he was trying to form a line of dirt to stop a low burning blaze. He said that before he knew it, the fire and the intense heat reached the high top branches of the tall trees around them and the sound was like a freight train, and it moved FAST. The captain yelled at his men to cover themselves with the fire blanket fire fighters use, and dad said it felt like they were being cooked alive, like a TV dinner. Luckily they were close enough to the Yellowstone Lake, that after the danger passed, they were able to get relief from the Lake. They all said they knew and felt they were protected. The Lord DOES answer prayers, and this proved it to me!!!
Heather-John Nielsen - My memories are of driving through the aftermath of the fires with a blonde friend of mine and having her say, "Look at all those weird trees. Did they plant them that way?" TRUE STORY!
Kathleen Reilly White - Roy. R.i.p. Kathleen
Nancy Jones Knowlton - But it has also lead to great discussions now with my kids when we visit about how god renews the earth, and how amazing it is that now you can't tell. Beautiful new trees have taken the place of those that burned.
Nancy Edwards Haskins - How come something so pretty be so deadly.
Don Sherman - I Remember they said it was a Natural Fire and it should burn Naturally when it Threaten to burn the UN-NATURAL buildings and Boardwalks in the Park they then spent Millions of Dollars trying to protect them !! When they FIRST seen the Fire One man with a Shovel could have Extinguished it !!
Tori Mickelson - i remember flying in with my dads plane, and evacuating people out of west yellowstone...we were leaving on one run, and taking off the tarmak when the wind shifted suddenly and our plane tipped to the point where the right wing barely missed the ground and the left wing was straight up in the air....we made several flights in and out of there.
Danna Goddessia Long - Ash an haze in st George , the pic of the mama bird that didn't fly away to save her babies. Will never forget that .
Charlotte Apple - We were in Yellow stone when it was burning. It burned forever.
Kathleen Reilly White - My husband as a child had to leave Yellowstone to get his asthma shots, or they would have been in the fire, He has since past on, but this is how I remember the day. God Bless you r
Gail Simmons Christensen - I was living on Ellsworth AFB, SD at the time and we had ashes from the fire coming down
Ruth Barrow Braga - I went to a concert by Mannheim Steamroller that they held to fundraise for it-I was young so its interesting that is all I really remember! !
Kevin Maynard - I was at a Boy Scout Camp 6 miles from the east gate of the park. Tons of ash!
Justin Reeves - I remember the constant rain of ash on our campsite in the southwest bechler region of the park. I was 7
Krista Nfse York - i remember we had just left the park that day it started and didnt hear anything bout it until we got to my uncle house in Logan .. We had our jaws dropped
Bob Lyman - I camped out during the fires. The worst part was driving through smoke and flames in my open Jeep.
Mandy Rasband Strebel - We went to Yellowstone that year! I remember getting hot ash in my eye!
Tonie Hall - It was horrifiic, And it burned a lot, it looked so desolate there. We vacationed there after the fire and could not believe the devastation.......
Janet Shaw Riser Brown - was there on vacation
Wynne Ipsen Evans - I hate fire!!! When I was little our house burnt to the ground from a water heater that exploded...They used to be in the kitchen back then...

KSL 5 TV: BREAKING: Larry H. Miller family has reported Roger Miller, son of Gail and the late Larry H. Miller has passed. Details on KSL at 10 p.m.Comments:
Stacy Ehninger Hopkins - People, people its their JOB to report NEWS IN UTAH! If you don't like it, unlike their page! Omg!
Linda Blackburn - It is news to those of us that care
Travis Pavich - It's breaking news for one reason. It's a member of the Miller family, who has done so much for the state of Utah. If it wasn't for Larry, there would be no Jazz, no Bees, no racetrack and no megaplex theaters. RIP. my condolences to the Miller family.
Stacy Ehninger Hopkins - @Scott it says "breaking:" and it also says the Miller Family is reporting this info. Geez people the family has done A LOT for this city and surrounding areas.
Margie Earl - sorry for thier loss but how is this breaking news??
Nicole Hinton Jones - People, please think long and hard before you decide to comment. PLEASE. I am always appalled at how many insensitive people there are. Would you want someone to say negative things about a deceased family member of yours? I think not.
I personally knew Roger and talked to him just last week and am just saddened to hear of his passing. My condolences to the entire Miller family.
Amber Pendergrass - Whether it is breaking news or not, as you write your comments and make your assumptions, please try to keep in mind that tonight many people are mourning the loss of their son, husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, friend etc. I met Roger on many occasions and he was a nice man and a good father. My heart goes out to the Miller family.
Sean Lamb - Utah's economy would be pretty lousy without the Millers.
Which you have benefited from.
U don't have to bawl your eyes out.
Just have a little respect.
Kathy Stay - People, give it a rest, if you have a problem with it being "Breaking News" you obviously aren't doing anything right now, except sitting on Facebook, being rude, but that is your problem, not anyone else's. have a little respect for your fellow man. Just a thought. I'm off now, to do important things. Like get my family ready for bed.
Christy Jo Mcguire Ramos - I did know him he was my boss and friend and one of the kindest people I have ever met. He was a good person through and through. I respected him and his family his wife and kids are also amazing people .I am so heart broken over this news. all of us at the race track are feeling a very deep loss. R.I.P my friend
Ali Crump Mast - Just cuz his dad had diabetes doesn't mean he had diabetes
Eric Smart - So sad. Another loss for the family. Roger was one of the nicest men I've ever had the privilege to meet.
Ryan Castro - Jared:
Let's eat grandpa!
Let's eat, grandpa!
Stacy Ehninger Hopkins - @Scott one last time it's " Breaking" because it was just reported. Seriously this poor family who is well known in the community has passed away. It is being reported as news and if you don't like that they said "breaking" then "UNLIKE" the page!
Nicole Trudeau Westmoreland - and the winner of the insensitive/jump to conclusion award goes to...Stephen Peck! My heart goes out to the family. I am so sorry, Miller Family. You will be in our thoughts.
Tina Nielsen Yeagley - The Larry H. Miller family has done lots of great things for UT. My condolences to them right now.
Kathy 'Solomon' Hancey - The Millers do alot for the state of Utah and the community. Sorry for their loss.

Denise Ahrens Flory - Wow...my heart and prayers to them!
Lynda Hammond Lopez - My condolences it the entire family. Rest in paradise!
Jacquie Tuitavuki - Terry, a well loved family. Perhaps unlike the page. It doesn't really matter who. Why would you post that in the death of any human.

KSL 5 TV: FARMINGTON SPINE WILDFIRE: All access is closed into Farmington Canyon. Officials ask that people stay out of the area so that they can fight the fire. The fire is 75 acres. More information will be posted here, on ksl.com and tonight on KSL.Comments:
Kris Pettersen Barr - so sad that so many people seem more concerned with whether or not Lagoon is open...MY GOD PEOPLE, there are people in danger of losing lives and homes and you only care if you can ride a roller coaster??? Another thing, with how close they are saying this is to Lagoon, can you imagine the panic and the people that would be hurt if they had to evacuate Lagoon? AND, the air quality in the area would be so terrible, how could anyone BREATHE???
Cindy Ogilvie Miska - @ Martha no its our fire season like the Midwest has tornado season and the east coast has hurricanes we have fires.
Georgi Harris Dalton - Maybe because some people traveled 250 or more miles to go to lagoon to give their kids some fun and didn't even know about the fire. I'm sure they are all concerned about the potential losses. Give em a break.
Debbie Giambrone - Even if lagoon is open not sure I'd want to breathe in whatever is in the air. Find an indoor place to take kids until some of this dissipates. I'm in Davis county and have ash floating in my yard from the skull valley fire. Just a thought!
Brittney Maxwell - Sad:( But that is a really cool picture
Christine Rollins - Dang this is totally crazy! God we are in need of some desperate rain. Please help:)
Matt N Candace Nielsen - What's messed up the firefighters left the skull valley fire to go fight the rockport fire because the homes there weren't trailers
Angela Harris - We have had a lot of dry lightning this past month. Why do we have to start pointing fingers at the bow hunters because the hunt opened this weekend? We have had a pretty calm fire season compared to previous years.
Shirley Bailey - Any one out fighting these fires are my heroes! God bless
Sara Thompson - Anyone know what's going on on antelope island?
Shelly Homan Billington - So sorry the land is burning...but praying all are safe an have their 72 hour kits :-)
Shelley Hansen - Boo...hopefully today we'll have some rain to help out. Last thing we need though is more lightening.
Jose Tirado - no lightning, it must be target shooting
Heather Nelson - It's been years since my parents' have planned a trip from Wyoming to go to Lagoon ... Now there's a fire nearby . Murphy needs to take his law elsewhere !
Mark Green - Saw this last night when it started...Where is the Rain!!??
Himes Sacco DeLaine - Wow out by Lagoon and threatening people and homes
Lynn Murphy - I hate to see the destruction of our wooded areas; there are fires blazing away in Idaho as well. God bless our firefighters who are raging their lives in this incredible heat wave and may these fires be under control soon without the loss of lives and homes.
Carla Frampton - God is sending a message! Bless all who are homeless right now, if I can help in any way possible I will. God Bless those risking their lives to save the Families, Homes n the Land We Live on. May all this hatered end. AMEN
Laura Staley Gubler - People probably want to know if Lagoon is open or closed to save the trip. If I had been planning on going today then I would ask. No harm done. Goodness. prayers to those in harms way and the firer fighters AND Lagoon.
Tama Child - I didnt hear target shooting..but theyre in police custody!
Sissy Covington - Is lagoon open?????????

Coming up on the Browser 5.0 at 12:30 we will look at how they will pick their team -- and why they say this is no joke. Tell us if you would go, and we may share your comment on air.Comments:
Shellie Smith Hinckley - No, but there are a few people I'd like to send :)

Jason Funk - It alway has to come back to Obama. I get it already, everything's his fault. Your life sucks because of him. It has absolutely nothing to do with your own personal responsibility. Send all the people that said if he was elected they would move out of the country. Ted Nugent first in line. At least it would be quieter on earth.
Justin Benson - Can we send the occupants of the White House?
Wendy McDaniel - Can't we send Obama, Biden, Hillary, Nanci Pelosi Harry Reid, Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, that Weiner dude, and half of Congress? There is the team!!!! (oh wait, can't forget to add Michael Moore, Piers Morgan, and Bill Maher!!!)

Ralph E Ladue - No, but we ought to send our worse criminals, murders etc on a way way trip there.....
Ashley McMurrin - Why don't we send all the pedophiles!
Norma Quezada - I think all the child molester, and killer should be sent to mars...
Kellie Frederick - No way. I heard Justin Bieber bought a ticket.
Greg Yardley - Send the whole democratic party and they can enjoy all the Obama care they can handle and all the other crap they are trying to force on good Americans.
Nancy Miller-Brailsford - I might, can the NSA still intercept my Facebook posts and emails?
Shandra Mueller - It seems that maybe that's the kind of thing someone should be PAID for, not PAYING for!
Paul Te Prieto - Does your kid claim U.S. Citizenship if they are Born in Mars? Or are they Martian Citizens? :) Live long and Phosphorous :) Can I send some of my in-Laws to Mars?
Peggy Johnson - I know a lot of politicians and so-called celebrities who could use a one-way trip to Mars!
Georgi Harris Dalton - I would go once a colony was established and tested. Im not much of a pioneer.
'Korynn Argyle Weideman - I say lets clean up society and send the drug addicts, sex offenders & murderers up there just for starters.
Glenna Silvan - My husband has worked for subcontractors of the space program for over 20 years of his 30+ engineering career. He loves space. We are in our 60's. Our children are grown. We have 23 grandchildren. We would go, just because it is his lifetime dream to go into space. Yes, I would go with him because after 43 years of marriage it would be a meaningless life not to.
Natalie Plater - No but lets send all of are prisoners free up tax dollars that way!
Wendy Morgan - Can u nominate people even if never willing lol

KSL 5 TV: A new JC Penny ad has many parents saying it sends the wrong message: kids who don't dress the right way won't have any friends. We want to know what you think. Watch the ad and tell us if it sends the wrong message. We'll share some of your thoughts coming up on KSL 5 News at 6:30. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=niQSECd1OagComments:
Chrissy Webster - Sometimes people read way too much into things.
Jamie Bogart McCormick - I watched it 3 times and can't find anything wrong with it.
Lindsay Hutchins Critchlow - I think people are way to sensitive any more, its just a commercial trying to sell its clothes nothing more!
Jonathan Goff - This sounds like another worthless story meant to generate controversy and ratings
Rebekah Timlin Meddles - I don't think it necessarily sends that message. I hear a mom rolling her eyes at the things her kids HAVE to have... We all deal with it with our kids. One of my sons will wear nothing but skinny jeans. The other son won't touch them.... and the other one wouldn't care if he had to wear a burlap sack to school. If the ad showed kids actually being mean to each other for not wearing the "cool" clothes, then I would have a problem with it but even the cafeteria scene was the mom showing how much her kids over exaggerate the "problem". At least that's what I got from it. ;)
Eve Hart Smith - I think you have to look at the JC Penney back-to-school commercials overall--they are about expressing your personal style, not meeting someone's expectations. And anyway, who actually thinks Arizona jeans are on some fashionista's A-list? I think the commercial is kind of tongue-in-cheek when it points out that the mom doesn't actually know what is stylish, but she can still rely on Penney's for great clothes. That one little line in the commercial was definitely stupid and irrelevant but also insignificant.
Jessica Huisman Patton - This is the point of every commercial ever made. Your teeth aren't white so use this toothpaste or no one will kiss you, your boobs aren't big enough so buy this bra and men will like you, you smell bad so use our body wash and girls will fall all over you. (Eye roll.)
Kiera Thomsen - If that's their message, then it's subtle. I got made fun of for wearing not cool clothes, scrawny legs and chewing my gum wrong. Today it's called bullying. I just call it part of growing up. Let's not make a big deal out of nothing and teach our kids to be emotionally strong.
Lacey Waltke - No I think they are trying to make their stuff popular not the kids. Duh they are trying to get sales.
Dalma Heath - Sound like they are trying to sell reasonably priced jeans to school kids. There are not designer jeans - just plain old everyday jeans. If anything, it sends the message that you can be cool even if you don't spend $200 on a pair of Jeans. Good advertisement.
Angela DeMelo - Its just a commercial. I don't see the big whoop-la. I hear that same line from my kids all the time, and I used to say it as a teenager, "but mom I HAVE to have that brand, or that particular pair of pants, etc" Hopefully we are teaching our children in the home about self-esteem and personal worth so a commercial like this (which I really don't see is a big deal) wont affect or "damage" them.
Don Ward - Some people need to get a life. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this ad. My dad used to tell me if you are looking to be offended, you will be offended. These people are obviously looking to be offended.
Keri Romine - I am seriously so sick of the whining over every little commercial, or story that someone doesn't like. We are making our kids out to be victims all the time. Instead we should be teaching our kids to work hard, and be good decent individuals. Maybe they will have a chance in this world and not expect to have everything handed to them.
Matt Maestas - People are waaaayyyyy to sensitve. Can you imagine how are next generation is going to be, being raised to be offended by EVERYTHING!!!
Jill Prettyman Davis - Stupid!! There are more important things to worry about than a dumb commercial!
Jennifer Petty Murdock - It may or may not . This kind of stuff has existed way before this commercial. Plus any cool kid knows that Arizona jeans aren't even cool. BAH! :P
Marc Fisher - Ha, I said the same thing, to my wife, about a few other back to school commercials last week. I didn't see this one, but others made me feel like they were putting the message that if you didn't dress the right way you weren't going to be "cool" or get in the right "click". I thought it was horrible that they would send that type of message.
Todd Parrish Schulthies - If you dress silly, people will make fun of you. It was true in the sixties, seventies, and eighties. It is probably true now.
Randy Burrell - Wow. I don't see where it sends any message different than what has been reality for decades. People need to lighten up. Jeesh
Aubree Walker Shelley - Reason number ___ to be glad we don't have a TV
Kristen Webster - People have way too much time on their hands to always look for the bad in everything. I am sure that was not what jcp was trying to do.

Rayola Greenburg Brown - My husband is one of the firefighters!
Chelsea B. Merkley - Be careful Residents and Firefighters!!!
Alisha Jurgensmeier - The fires in Utah don't compare to the biggest fires in the nation in Idaho........ All fires are sad and the West needs a big very very big rain storm soon!!!!
Sheri McKinnon Burgess - Fox13 said 2 men have been arrested for starting it.
Baylor Josephson - Please, let it destroy Lagoon.
Nicole Welch Burnham - We are up on the mountain side. They have several trucks up at the base of the fire. From our house it looks as if things are getting under control.
Shannon Anderson - They have an amazing fire station that will work quickly to get things under control.
Matt N Candace Nielsen - There goes all the big bucks for tomorrows opener
Teresa Anderson - God bless the Emergency workers firer fighters, and all the men and women fighting these firers and helping people that can't breath.
Kevin Hardesty - That's funny site about Joseph Smith! Get real.
Emily Butcher Harrison - The ash is from the other fires.
Nikki Wicks - We need some major rain and hate to say it, but we need a wicked winter with lots of snow for the mountains.
Ellen Anderson - I thought there had to be a fire closer than the ones already reported. I am in Layton and I could smell it.
Jennifer Roberts - Ashley Roberts Brandon Charles Roods Makenzie Mercy Tracy Well. There goes Lagoon.
Jon Young - If the Farmington residents have accepted Joseph Smith as the true prophet all will be well and ok
Sheila Blume DuBois - Number 8 fire in the state now?? sheesh!!
Darlene S. Head - Blessings to all of our Firefighters on the mountains and fighting the many fires in our states. Sending prayers for safety now.
Callie Owen - I saw it on my way home tonight they look like they are handeling it well
Teresa Anderson - Man it's hard to breath now.
Amber Marion - Guess we will be seeing more red suns and moons
Nikki Frandsen Hellewell - The ashes are from the Skull Valley fire. The ashes blow east. Even the smell is from that. The Farmington fire isn't that big.
- NEW: Vernal police have arrested Abrieal "Abby" Winkler for investigation of communication frau (Type: photo | Published: 2013-08-14T14:08:23+0000 | Likes: 91 | Shares: 31)
KSL 5 TV: NEW: Vernal police have arrested Abrieal "Abby" Winkler for investigation of communication fraud, a second-degree felony. Winkler, 30, is accused of telling people for 4-year-old daughter had cancer in order to receive donations from private individuals and community fundraisers.Comments:
Kathryn Wilkinson McKenzie - I think for her punnishment she should have to pay the medical bills of a child who has cancer. That'll open her eyes!
Rhandi Allred - Vernal's community is one of the most generous I've seen. They take people at their word and do whatever they can to help. They do fundraisers all the time for people in need, I sure hope one bad apple doesn't spoil it. She must have really needed the money/stuff to be willing to stoop that low.
Tammy Clifford Larsen - Poor woman?? As a mom of a critically ill daughter, this woman has no idea what a blessing healthy children are! Throw the book at her for fraud and also child abuse. I would trade places with my daughter in a heartbeat for her to not endure a massive, inoperable tumor and all of its side effects. This woman may have given birth to a child, but she is NO MOTHER. Shameful and disgusting!!!
Eden Tolman Hooton - This makes me mad. There are so many people out there that really need money for medical bills and have to watch their child or family members suffer from cancer. I hate when people use it as a cry for help and have no idea of the pain and suffering. Cancer is a nasty thing and no one should ever have to fight it! I wouldn't wish it on my own enemy. Cancer sucks! This Stupid woman doesn't deserve children!
Joni Anderson Bott - That makes me very upset. She should spend some time in jail, and then volunteer at Primary Children's Hospital in the cancer dept and see what it's like to really have a child suffering with cancer. But she needs some serious punishment and therapy!
Jalesa Smith - She claims her older daughter had cancer too and now her younger daughter. DONT SUPPORT TENACIOUS CLOTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Matt N Candace Nielsen - That's why it's so hard for me to donate, I really do believe half of the fundraiser s set up by individuals are scams
Jenni Price Bell - What a sicko. Glad they nabbed her.
Cody J Christiansen - You people saying "times are hard" or "she could have done worse" are idiots. She bald faced lied and stole money meant for cancer patients. I have suffered the disease and the financial drain is enormous and a woman who own her own clothing store stealing charity money is just sickening. She deserves the same as a robber anyday.
Shelley Whitaker Cleveland - As the mother of a child with cancer, i cant imagine anyone putting their child in a mental position to have to even think she had this scary disease!
Beth Brown - I feel bad for her. I am sure she realizes the enormity of her mistake now. While she did deceive others, I hope she learns and finds a better path. I hope she raises her kids better now.
Patricia McCarrel Trapp - Dumb B****, someone should inject her with cancer cells!
Carmen Mitchell - Geez how low down is that?
Aaron Poll - You people are pretty harsh. Yes, she did something stupid. Maybe she is the one who is sick and in need of help. There's no reason to wish damnation upon her or tear her family apart for something that can be paid back, rehabilitated, and fixed.
Michelle Nelson Densley - Parents who use their children to get attention for false or exaggerated medical issues, (whether they profit financially or not) are mentally ill and need serious help. They also don't deserve to have children. This type of abuse is just as bad as any other form. I can't even begin to imagine what this child was put through, to assist in her mother's fraud.
Lori Lowe Hatfield - Beyond disgusting!
Alicia Barstow Kaney - Hmm, let me guess... all to fund her Rx pill addiction.
Linda Louise Miller - She makes me sick!! I hope she has to do some kind of community service involving kids with real cancer.
Kristen Siglin - Wow, that's really low. Obviously she's never seen someone die or suffer from cancer. Anyone who has seen that wouldn't wish that on their worst enemy, let alone their own child. Sick!
Michael Martinez - If she did this to fund her drug problem, I hope she gets some help. If she's out to make an easy buck; throw the book!
Jamie Baird - If she is truly guilty of this..I don't have any pity for her,but Love and concerns for her children. Maybe several years of "community service" on children's cancer ward would benefit this crazy B****!!!!! Of course ONLY after she serves her jail time!!!!!!

KSL 5 TV: Do selfies mean you're selfish? Coming up on the Browser 5.0 12:30 we will take a look at what a new study says about the popular pics, and what your friends really think about them. Are you a selfie taker? We may share your comment on air.Comments:
Katie Robinson Perry - Ugh I can't stand people who post multiple selfies daily. Especially doing duck face (kissy lips)! A picture of yourself is okay every once in a while but we don't need to see your selfies in the car and the bathroom and on your bed......
Susan Emmert - I agree with Julie Burr. I take a lot of pictures because my husband is deployed and I send them to him. I am very insecure so when I do happen to produce a really good one, I post it on Facebook, and yes, it is my way of fishing for compliments. I don't think it makes me selfish, just insecure and looking for a compliment sometimes.
Karen Christensen Wells - I think there are two kinds of people who post selfies. Those who post often and obviously for attention. Then there are those who are documenting something special to themselves: the end of a hike, a long run, something special in their hometown, etc. Those people aren't in it for the attention on themselves, but for what they are doing and who they are.
Tami Moser Hill - Nope! It shows your happy! Feeling good about yourself. What's so wrong with that? I'd much rather feel happy and shine then hide and feel down and depressed. To be honest.. I think the world needs more selfies!!!
Julie Burr - I think more than being selfish people who take lots of selfies are probably somewhat insecure. They are looking for someone to give them reassurance of themselves. They are looking for feedback.
Emily Hone - I had just read something about selfies! Good thing you are talking about this because I know there are a lot of people out there that post selfies just for attention. (drives me nuts!)
Paula Hennessy Van Hise - I would say confident instead of selfish. I can take 12 bad photos before I get one good one and absolutely, if I think I finally got one where I feel cute, it is going up on fb and ig. Better for someone to post a selfie than another picture of their freaking dinner!
Mindy Newbry Dearden - Calm down, people! This story it's for The Browser not the 10 o'clock news!!!
I think it's funny what people say when they post a selfie: "Having some ice cream before I head to bed." Why not just write "Have you seen how cute I look in my jammies with my hair done and my make up still on?"
Christie Haslem Heywood - I have friends who take and post a new one every single day... I'm sorry but there is definitely at least a little narcissism involved. My favorite is when they try to pretend they don't think they look good, and write something fakely self deprecating when there's no question they think they are looking hot.
Kira Ogden - I'm going to be completely honest. I take them because I'm not entirely comfortable with the way I look in a full body shot (yes I realize how negative that sounds, but it's the truth) When you take a selfie you can control the angle and the way the picture looks. I know that isn't the reason everyone takes them, but it's my reason.
Shandra Mueller - Is it a "selfie" if your kid is in it? That's the only time I take them. It's hard to find a way to be in pics with your kids when you're a stay at home mom. So we take pics of ourselves that way. My two year old thinks it's hilarious!
Paul Te Prieto - Really? I guess I never really paid attention to people's Self-Portraits on FB, however I think some are creative and Artistic which makes me think that they are just talented and artistic in expressing themselves. Maybe we should do a Study on people that come up with these stupid studies and have the Govt. waste more money funding retarded studies like this one :) Sorry just had Sarcastic :)
Hilary Cox Johnson - Selfish...no. Vain...probably!
Amy Wyson Collier - Why do people complain about this kind of "news"? Would you rather hear about another shooting or disaster?
Jennifer Eck Craw - I'd have to agree with another poster - as a SAHM, I didn't have many pictures with me in them before. My mom has almost no pictures of herself young - and I wish she did! So a selfie every now and again is a good thing IMO just so my kids can see my as I am today.
Shelley Manhart Reeves - I hate them when I know the person is just fishing for a compliment. Especially when it is someone who is trying to loose weight and you know they just want you to tell them how skinny they are or how great they look.
Ashley Rankin-Ruth - I'm a photographer in my family, one always with the camera taking pictures of anyone else. If I didn't take pictures of myself, the scrapbooks ten years from now would make it seem like i never came to a family event.
Brittney Smith - I believe the technical term is narcissistic.
Laura States VanderToolen - Selfies are a pet peeve of mine! I feel that the people I see doing it are pretty vain.
Rebecca Christie - Maybe, but maybe it means you spend a lot of time by yourself and don't have anyone else to take the picture?
Heidi Manwaring - I believe that we post the best part of our lives on Facebook. If the selfies feel like that's the best part of there lives than more power to them.

KSL 5 TV: LIVE CHAT: What questions do you have for a child in the foster care system? Jay is a 12-year-old boy that loves basketball and he's here to answer your questions.
(Please be kind)Comments:
Jake Latu Amundsen - Any advise you'd like to give potential foster care parents on how they can do the best for the children?
Max Jacobson - What's your favorite and least favorite thing about being in foster care?
Emily Green-Cottam - If a foster child is in a home with other kids what is the best way a parent can help them understand they care about them as much as the other kids
Lisa Baggerly - what is the most important quality you would want in a parent.?
AshLeigh Watson - What is your favorite movie
Rick Graham - If your foster family would want to legally adopt you into their family, would you like that, or do you still have ties/feelings for your family?
Michelle Rapp Belnap - What is the most important thing for foster parents to do to help make the transition easier and more welcoming for kids? Ps: what a great smile!!!!
AshLeigh Watson - What place would you most like to visit?
Trina Foster Bingham - What is your favorite subject in school? What so you hope to be when you grow up?
Melinda Rose Babb - What is one of your favorite memories?
Kimberly Parry Gardner - Hi Jay,
What do you like most in school and what are some of your goals for this school year ? [ I'm a teacher , can you tell ;) ]
Native CoRe - Which NBA Player would you like to meet in person?
Dakota Dillard - What's your favorite team Jay??
Michele Richings - Jay, what would you want in a permanent family?
Tyler Thompson - What is you most favorite and least favorite food?
Wendy Nicholes - What is your favorite subject in school Jay?
Jeannette Graetz - "Do you feel loved and justly treated?" - I happen to know a child that has never gotten over the fact that government officials (in other words, police) knew how she was abused at home for 4 years before they took her and her siblings out, AND she hated foster care, as many foster parents (for lack of a better word) just do it for the money. We have so many cops on Utah streets that have enough time to chat and stop harmless speeders, but no personnel is available to check on the circumstances these kids have to live in! Sad story.
Carlos Palomo - Hi Jay, what's your favorite player of Salt Lake Bees ?
KSL 5 TV - Jay had to go - but thanks for asking him questions!
Nicole Caroline Godoy - Jay u are so cute!!!!
Sidney Anitoni - Jerry! He stayed with inlaws and he was an amazing kid... If I could I would take this little boy who was amazing at soccer and played so well with my kids! My husband and I know that "J" will go so far in life! Please let him know that he is an amazing boy!

KSL 5 TV: Necessary question, or not? An Oregon blogger is asking why she had to identify herself as her daughter's "adoptive parent" on a form for the girl's driver permit. Coming up on the Browser 5.0 at 12:30 we will look at how the state responded. Let us know what you think, and we may share your comment on air.Comments:
Noelle Ford Philpott - This makes me so sad and sick to my stomach. We have 4 children who were adopted. When the court finalizes the adoption, it is final and there are no differences between our adopted children and our biological child as far as us being their parents. That should never be a question on a form like that!
Brandi Miller Hays - Totally unnecessary. My three oldest children are legally adopted but their birth certificates have all been legally changed to my name as their mother. I shouldn't have to identify myself as anything other than that. What difference does a driven permit make if my children were grown under my heart or in it?
Trisha Deubler - I disagree, the very nature implies that this is not "really" her daughter. I have an adopted daughter and in every way shape and form she is mine and this is a very inappropriate question as legally she is mine - birth certificate is updated to reflect me any my husband as her parents...is their reasoning something to do with potential health issues - well often times adopted parents will not know anything about this! Not to mention most adoption information is sealed.
Elizabeth Stott Haroldsen - They should just list it as legal guardian and leave it at that
Wendy Ormsby - As the mother of children that are adopted I find this terrible. Although I celebrate my kids adoptions and make sure they know how wonderful it is, I do know parents that keep this information private--even from children, sometimes.
Lisa Chambers - Woah Judy! I take offense to that speaking as an adopted child. I was lucky to be given the life I had. My bio parents could have raised me but my quality of life would not have been as it was otherwise. Or they could have chosen to abort me. Not all adoptions are bad. My friend has adopted four children and because of the love of their family to these children all of their lives are blessed.
LoriAnn Smart - I am an adult who was adopted when I was born. I do not know who my biological parents were, but my adoptive parents are who I have always thought of as my parents. If it is legal, finalized, and all that good stuff, no one has the right to know whether you are adopted or not.
Stacey Chaffee - I don't see why it matters if the parent is the biological or adoptive parent. The fact is that they're the parent and listing specifics is just silly.
Karen Rupp - First of all we are not legal guardians. My children are adopted and they know it. Why do they have to be reminded of it. Good grief -it isn't anyone else's business how I got my children.
Burton Lake Sant Jr. - Oh yes, and for those of you that think that adoption is so wrong. It all depends upon the situation. Most birth mothers don't take it lightly and in the end they put their babies needs above their own. I have a great respect for these women.
Kirsten Andersen Atkinson - I am adopted and have adopted three of my children...this is ridiculous. But while we are trying to get the DMV or other gov't agencies to not ask the question...how about the media stops reporting stories that state if the person is adopted or not (this is done all the time when someone is under suspicion and the parents are interviewed or asked for a statement they are referred to as the suspect's "adopted parent"). This has bothered me since I was a child.
Michelle Ostmark - First, regardless of where you ADPOT a child from, once the adoption is finalized, the child is issued a new birth certificate. some states it shows adopted other states it does not, once a child is adopted, their original birth certificate is void, as their (genetic, biological birth parents) rights have been legally terminated! So this child had a legal document with her legal name on it as her identification! And Miss Judy, Your views on adoption sound a bit uneducated. I am a mother, and yes I adopted four amazing children. I will say your comment about being a "real parent" is a bit comical to me. Let me tell you why. My children's genetic parents, did drugs not only during their pregnancies but after and continue to do drugs, they neglected, beat, molested and walked away from "their" kids! So if you still think they should be with their "real parents" shows the kind of person you are. As for me, my children are all MINE regardless of who gave birth to them! I am AS REAL as it gets, I am their "REAL" mother and my husband is their "REAL" father. We are the ones that provide and care for our children, not their genetic parents.
Cindy Starr - I am an adoptive mom and a bio mom. Let me make one thing perfectly clear, if we a basing being a parent on the delivery pains, adoption wins hands down! When you adopt, you ARE the child's parent.... PERIOD!
Christine Downs Western - Just last night I was reading my husband's adoption papers from 1967. Even back then the court records stated he had all rights and privileges as a child of his parents with no distinction according to the law. From that point forward he legally became their son and they were his parents. The law didn't distinguish them as his adoptive parents and I don't think it should.
Beth Brown - Unacceptable!!!! When I adopted my daughters, the decree states that they were entitled to all rights and privileges as our daughters
Jen Thurston Pace - I wouldn't have my daughter if not for her birth parents, adoption is an amazing blessing! But the state is already deep enough into it! The poor kids don't need to be bothered when they fill out simple paperwork!!! Very offensive!!!
Burton Lake Sant Jr. - Once you have adopted a child they become a member of your family. They have all rights to property, inheritance and the family name. The birth certificate even names the adoptive parents as the child's bio parents. The State has no business asking those types of questions. Especially a driver's license application. It seems to me that the bureaucrat that made the application has something against adoption and do she/he put it on the application.
Kerri Christenson Nakamura - The only time an adopted child needs the "qualifier" adopted may be occasionally when discussing family medical histories. Otherwise, adopted kids are simply kids, no need for a qualification on the relationship!
Michelle Beckstead Sivertson - Why does the state feel the need to know if she's adoptive parent or not? I would just mark parent and leave it at that, I don't think the state really needs to know that information for a drivers license.
Charlie Christenson Cressall - It's none of anyone's business how my family was created. Adoption was an event that happened to my children, not what defines them.
Becky LeFevre Sims - This makes me so mad!!!!! My parents are my parents! I am so proud to be adopted by them. I love my Birth Mom as well! Interesting don't you think, I have parents, and a Birth Mom....I refer to the people who raised me as my PARENTS!!!!
