[carlabianca escobar] - You damn right. Some of the soldiers when they come back home, they can't even get a job. I've seen it first hand
[marcella mcguire] - I think a person in front of a classroom should make more than either.
[agustin cordoba] - Tell me when was the last time dignity, perseverance, sacrifice came with a pay check. As a marine myself, I think that money should not be a factor when deciding if you will fight for your country. That's why the military isn't for everyone!
[vittoria mottler] - The NFL is a private league, that funds their players, with their own incomes. Its not like money that could be used for the troops, is being used to pay football players. What the owner can afford to pay his players, has nothing to do with what the government can afford to pay his players. I come from a military family, so I'm all for supporting the troops, but give football a break. I'm sure a majority of the troops would want us to give football a break too.
[ao ortiz] - Angie Kai ... You need to sit the fuck down... You must not know what the military does... You wanna talk about amazing benefits ?? Free coverage , full medical coverage and cheap groceries ??? Lmfao you think that's matches or even combines to what nfl players make ?? You think thats enough benefits for what we do ?? Fight for our country , sacrifice our lives for y'all !!! Huh do u think those lil benefits cover all of that ??? You must be the stupidest person in the world to think that military gets so much benefits ...and you wanna say everyone can sign up for the miltary ??? Ok let me see you join the marines and hold a fucking gun and walk thru fields and wondering if your gonna live another day... You fucking tell me if ANYONE HAS THE BALLS TO DO THAT.. You stupid fuck ...
[matt moran] - Ok - I'm going to chime in here, for what it's worth...I served my country etc and no other team on this planet means more to me than our troops...but these types of posts make no sense and I really wish people would think through something like this a little bit more...logically. It's apples to oranges and cannot be compared. 1. You join the MIlitary - Voluntarily. Period - You join and serve because it's something you want to do. And you can do it without having to HOPE that you have extra ordinary athletic ability to in order to be part of this type of team. 2. You know it doesn't pay much to begin with. 3. Athletes get paid that kind of money because WE(Citizens of the US and Football fans support the overall entertainment of the sport by watching it, paying for it and contributing to our fav teams and franchises. Generating entertainment value in the Billions of dollars, thus raising the value of the ones who contribute the most - i.e. the athletes themselves. It is what it is folks. 5. I certainly didn't serve in the US ARMY because I wanted to make millions and I would bet my next pay check that those I served with didn't expect it either. It was more than just money. And if you serve your country with the expectation that you should be compensated more than another type of employment because you wear the uniform - then you are setting yourself up for failure. Don't JOIN VOLUNTARILY and work on your route running...it's a free country. 6. These Athletes are one in a million and work extremely hard all their lives to accomplish what they do. IT's not just handed to them either. And MOST don't even make through and end up making less than someone in the Military anyway. So again - my opinion only, but I'm really getting tired of this type of unrealistic emotional mindset. Our men and women in uniform are not victims...please stop treating them as such. They deserve better from us! With Pride of our Military - Peace!
[aimee riley] - As I've said before, we should take care of our vets. There should NEVER be a homeless vet.
Same goes for our police, firefighters, and teachers.
[anastasia novax sims] - We don't defend our country, we offend other ones.
[hannah smith] - I disagree. But soldiers do deserve more respect and support (monetary and otherwise) for their service. If we devoted as much time to veteran programs as we do to Sunday football or donated as much money as we pour into the Sports industry, or supported our forces through thick and thin as we do our favorite team, there would be a huge change.
[earl wilson] - they should make more than our beloved congressman do also.
[rick penny] - Angie Kai....so you've been in the military and know what we have? You probably believe everything you see on the news and Facebook too I bet. You're right anyone can join. But not everyone does. Only 2% of the American people are in the military. Did you know they took our paychecks and T.A away from us before because the country was in debt? We're the first ones affected by a crises. Yet we are also are the first to respond. We don't complain because we love what we do. I know I sure do. I'm deploying in November so I'll be spending Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years in the desert. If you haven't done that before try it and see if you think we have it all.
[mike avelar] - As a ARMY veteran during war time, I have to say that I would rather have the same pay. It's not about the money. I chose to join as 11series because I felt I would be next to the people who "wanted it" most so to speak. I feel if people were joining (for sake of this conversation) infantry because it paid millions of dollars, it would be for the wrong reasons and they would fight as hard or be as motivated to win. Fighting with all your heart out of devotion, loyalty, honor, and respect for your country and the men and women next to you for peanuts, is far different than fighting for a ton of money. The same values I just mentioned would not be found if money were the case. Let the athletes, music stars, and actors keep their millions; you can't take the money to the grave. I'll keep my honor knowing I did "what others failed and wouldn't do" not for money but for love of country.
[gary skinner] - I agree, all of the professional players are overpaid prima donnas, no one is worth millions of dollars a year to play ball
[jason richey] - This is an old and tired argument. Fact remains is the military is paid by the department of defense(or transportation if ur coast guard) and the football players are paid by a for profit organization. So piss and moan all you want, but until the army becomes a reality show it ain't gonna happen. The concept is great, but the military is paid for by tax payers dollars and out of a government budget. NFL players are paid by people that have more money than they know what to do with that operate oragnizations that bring in millions of dollars. Oh and before i get lambasted for being insensitive, i served for 7+years in the Army
[sean thomas warner] - Let's send the Raiders to Syria! No, wait they would lose that battle as well...
[tevita fakasiieiki] - You're comparing a private business (NFL), with a branch of the government...not a fair comparison!
[a.j. begay] - They should make more then the politicians who put them there! Take all theyre pay and divide it up as a start!!
[orane taíno darby] - I'm in the army and I say stop fucking hating on football players cuz y'all be glued to that tv on Sundays
[skylar houston young] - Different people pay us the government pays us don't be mad with athletes because they make so much money that is an entirely different system I'm happy with what I make I'm not rich but I'm not poor bills are paid and I have a home. However to the ass hats saying any idiot can join the military and shoot a gun I would love to invite you on a free trip to Afghanistan and see just how well you do with that being said NFL players make America awesome and so do my military brothers how about less shit talking and more football and soldiers airman marines will still do what we do lol trust me we like football to
[eric armendariz] - That's as stupid as saying I think a person at McDonald's should make as much as a Dr
[jason nugent] - I wonder how many of you are proponents of free market capitalism? Isn't one of our greatest economic principles the notion that a man can and should earn whatever the market will pay for his services? The same people who insist teachers, police, firefighters, soldiers, etc are often the same folks who want smaller government and less government spending. ANYONE working in a field of government (i.e, tax payers) paid civil service cannot and ethically SHOULD NOT expect to be pairing in a manner commiserate with those with rare talents in a private sector enterprise. While the sentiment is one nobody in their right mind disagrees with, it's not even even remotely practical. A professional football player at the NFL level has a rare talent at a high level that generates enormous profits for his company, and THAT'S why he gets paid more thN a civil servant. As a civil servant myself, I realize and accept that with few exceptions, it is not the road to immense riches, nor should it be.
[timuia toomuchforya poteki] - Just send the football players out to war. Bet the QB can throw a mean gernade. Bust a blitz.. Lol.. Just saying
[michael piazza] - I think that a man wearing a helmet defending our country, should make more then the fat old men in congress and the house who decide where to send them.
[evan black] - Sure! A man DEFENDING HIS COUNTRY should... but when was the last time America was under attack other than from an alleged source? World War II?
Where do you think the revenue comes from to pay those players? Government funding?!
You want soldiers to be paid more? Well, we are going to have to increase taxes 100,000% to get to wages anywhere near that.
Then who do we pay more? ENLISTED OR OFFICERS? I mean, is it not Enlisted who are out there the most?
You don't want to pay a million dollars in taxes each year but you want to give soldiers 4 year contracts of 6-14 million?
Well, lets sell the military to corporations and air it on tv. Let ad revenue pay their wages and sell military merchandise. Wear your favorite soliders uniform while watching him fight and die for your entertainment so that maybe he can bring a fat check to his family..
You people are fucking stupid.
[jeff huber] - Then they should put gopro cameras on the helmets of soldiers while in action and put that on tv.
[ashlee elve] - So your telling me someone who drops out or doesn't finish school and just picks up a gun, choosing to risk their life should get paid more then someone who goes to school gets good grades and dedicates their everything to something they truley love while in college. Hmmmmmm not me
[vite latu] - Nah football generates way more money which is overall good for this economy where as paying soldiers to fight needless wars just drive the economy down... all due respect to people who serve but this statement doesn't make any good sense
[jennifer bowser] - As a veteran I think some of the comments are pretty cruel. Just think about what the soldiers are facing when the come back. Maybe a lot of PTSD and pretty significant trauma that is hard to look at and deal with cause of the comments that are made to them. Yes teachers should make more than they do. But that does not mean we should turn our backs on the military. Both professions are equally important. Please think about what our military men and women are facing when the come back. Imagine for just a few minutes the hell that they went through. Now that is probably nothing compared to what they actually experienced. I will not comment any further cause I do not want to start a petty argument here. But please think before making a harsh comment like that. It hurts the veteran and military member who reads it.
[teresita quintana martinez] - With all do respect to both equally..they knew what they were getting into when they choose they're career!! So I don't see why this is up..
[jb incredibizzle bell] - If you scared of dying or getting side effects of war, then don't sign up. There's not a draft going on. Those soldiers know exactly what they are signing up for. So why are we talking about who makes what when the soldiers choose to join. Pretty sure they were told their benefits before they officially enlisted
[lauren victoria neville] - Then those men should have tried out for sports instead of service duh. People don't pay to watch a war. They pay to see sports.
[robert johnston] - I'm a vet but I know how financing works. All we have to do is get 70 to 80 thousand people a week to give the guys from their area the price of Stadium Tickets. Our servicemen and women are paid by our "Federal Taxes" So, which service person do you want to start paying instead of going to games???? Dumb Ass. Teachers should only be paid on MERIT. Not just for showing up and taking roll's...The frigging teachers aren't defending anything not even the Constitution. You gotta be an NEA member Marcella.
[david brown] - Can't happen, it's a simple principle of economics known as supply and demand. If hundreds of thousands of people had the skills to step out on the football field and play at the NFL level...pay would drop drastically. Simple fact is that these are elite athletes with talents and skills people are willing to pay big money to watch. I don't know any soldier who signed up for the military to get rich. So I fundamentally disagree with this posting.
[jessica chapman] - I'd like to see the American response if taxes went through the roof to pay them more. Football is a business, the owners pay the players. The owners aren't paying for our military. Therefore this statement doesn't even mean anything.
[gaby beltran] - So you wanna pay more taxes? People defending the ball make money because people pay a lot of money to watch them play.. So if you want more money be taken away from you go ahead...
[michael clavelli] - Yeah, but convince Coca Cola and McDonalds to sponsor our troops first...
[vite latu] - No one forces people to serve... so there shouldn't be complaints from their end... can you imagine if everyone just stopped signing up? Hmmm
[vite latu] - And lets go the DALLAS COWBOYS
[kenneth smith] - The difference is that football is a private enterprise.
[marilyn longley] - So very true. And more than men sitting in a plush cozy office working hard trying to find a new way to lie, cheat and tax Americans. They are taking our country and freedoms away from us and we are letting them. The very ones these soldiers are fighting for!!
[angela faith shelton riley] - Somewhere along the way this country has put more emphases on athletics than academics which has skewed the values of certain professions like professional football. Those Professional Football Players will make millions per year while teachers & nurses making less than 1/10 of that. There is something very wrong with this paradigm.
[peter owino] - I think I'm the only one seeing this comparison as just silly. Apples and oranges.
[lance marlow] - Football is a private corporation, not a government paid employee. Don't be stupid.
[boris levin] - Vietnam, Afghanistan, Iraq, Lybia were total failures and now Syria is on the American militarism agenda...just to justify huge military budget and manufacturing of more and more arms instead of helping people!
[doug pneuman] - Be careful what you wish for. We may have perpetual warfare now since it's been 12 years as it is, if they figured out a way to make it a spectator sport it really would never end.
[dan thestar mastercrawler] - NFL is not a real sport!! Support the Troops, fuck NFL... Get rid of the sport and give the sponsors money to the Troops!! They deserve it a lot more..
[ana villarreal garza paton] - I totally agree but let's face it that will never happen. Besides you volunteer to serve your country and being a football player you have to train and try out for teams you cannot volunteer to play football. You cannot compare the two groups because its two totally different things. I do agree with Roxie that athletes are paid ridiculous amounts of money !! If the public would boycott games, protest the price of tickets to an event and refuse to buy jerseys etc.then maybe just maybe these players would not be able to make the money they make but look at the USA this week. Everybody is crazy happy that football is back and life is good on account of that. That's why it will never change . The government should give pay raises to the soldiers and people that are risking their lives to defend the country.
[louis collins] - Well they would if they could get sixty thousand people to watch them carry a gun.
[da'sean smalls] - America is the reason why athletes get paid more than soldiers. America loves to be entertained.
[dylan neville] - No, it doesn't make much sense.
However, it isn't exactly "unfair". If both NFL players and members of the military were government personnel, then yes, it would be absolutely wrong. But they are not. Military personnel are government employees, their salaries paid for by the taxpayers. The NFL is part of the free market economy, and therefore those involved will be paid based on demand and success of the business. Are you suggesting that their salaries be controlled by the government, to make it more fair? So much for capitalism, then.
As sad as it is, you can't compare the two.
P.S. I hate football.

[adam sorey] - Most of us didnt join the military to get rich and the only reason ball players make all that money is because we are willing to spend 150 bucks for one ticket to watch them. If you don't like how much they make dont watch the sport. I will agree the service members should make more money but there are other benefits they get to make up for it.
[madeline marie rutherford] - .... This is silly. Sports are privately owned and they produce enough income as a company to pay outrageous amounts! You want to pay soldiers more .... Then we raise the taxes . If we raise taxes guess who gets upset??? The entire working and tax paying society. Good thought but we can't .
[dan staubus] - It's a nice sentiment, but
1) there are a hell of a lot more soldiers than football players, and this country couldn't afford to pay them all that much
2) the NFL earns its own money and isn't supported by taxpayers
[tim ruhle] - you all obviously have no concept of money, nor of supply and demand.
[brandy nicole tupacz] - No one is paying to watch the military do their job. We do pay to watch sports, there for the nfl makes lots of money...
[dayna cantwear white] - Ticket sales, apparel sales, millions of people tuning in, sponsor dollars, investments, donations... Things that influence a football players salary
[leon priester] - The premise is right, but in reality it isn't feasible. There are only approximately 1600-1700 pro football players. There's many, many more men in uniform. Also, what about the women. They wouldn't deserve to be paid for their service. If you paid all servicemen 25mil, plus the cost of war, we would become insolvent in months. Remember, people PAY to see football players, therefore it's a constant regeneration of cash
[melinda weinheimer-pidgeon] - This statement is absolutely correct! u\Unfortunately though, most private enterprise would not fund our men and women to defend what allows them to enjoy that free enterprise which allows them to have the lifestyles they enjoy, and most of us would love to enjoy as well. Carla is correct in that NO Veteran in this country while in the service of this country or after serving this country and honorably discharged should ever qualify for state or federal welfare programs. There income should surpass those levels. Marcella is also correct. Our teachers should be well paid, they should also be allowed to teach...by that I mean that too many children arrive at school with behavior problems and the teachers end up becoming babysitters or surrogate parents. When I hear from teachers that they have parents come in and blame the teacher because "Johnny" of "Janie" isn't turning in their work and is failing their class...parents need to be PARENTS NOT FRIENDS!! PARENTS NEED TO BE RESPONSIBLE AND TEACH THEIR CHILDREN TO TAKE RESPONSIBLITY FOR THEIR OWN ACTIONS!!! Society has raised a generation who feels they are "OWED" everything. Society has raised a generation of young people who think everything should be handed to them, instead of working hard for something. OK...I'll step down off my soap box...I could go on, but I realized how much room I am taking....sorry y'all...just categories that I have strong opinions on.
[tim wilcox] - You don't have millions of dollars in advertising and marketing potential in a soldier, unfortunately. We would not pay for or want to see the job the soldier has to do. It is this way because we want it to be. People would not want to pay the taxes to fund a full army at those salaries. Be realistic think about it.
[david hazzlerigg] - If you don't like how much money football players make then tell AMERICA to stop paying all that money to watch those athletes play. Those guys earn every penny of that money by learning the game and training their whole lives. Where would you have the money go if not to the players? The fat-cat owners? The NFL? The Players Union? NO!!!! It should go to the players.
[john kampa] - I didn't do it for the money. I did it for our freedom.
[eugene manuel alvarez] - I agree! Put the boys on the borders of Canada and Mexico! !!
[adam mcbrayer] - Get people to buy tickets, merchandise and watch it every way possible and you might be onto something. Also, you'd have to only allow 32 generals and a maximum of 1724 soldiers at any one time.
[ryan monteleone] - Anybody can join the military. Less than 1,700 people in the entire world are good enough to play in the NFL at any given time. And a very small percentage of that 1,700 is good enough to make millions a year. Supply and demand.
[russ yarbrough] - Just about anyone can join the Armed Forces. Very few can make millions playing football. And those that do play ball appreciate the soldiers that gave them the opportunity so what's the point? Dumb post
[gabriel pintor] - Defending? You mean invading other countries
[tony coleman] - Our government is not paying football players and everyone in the service volunteered. They are not fighting for their country.
[nolan h. anderson iii] - Serving is a honor and privilege that warrants benefits that sometimes meet or exceed the private sector such as medical care and educational opportunities. If Soldiers, Sailors, Marines and Airmen made money like entertainers and professional athletes then everyone in America would want to join. The service is not for everybody and it's how you make your career. Remember, it's a volunteer force and nobody forced you to join if you are unhappy.
[david blouir] - So televise the war and sell advertising. And make pay per view events for the really good killers. Smart.
[debra craus webb] - Prof. Athletes make way too much$
[charlie syriejr] - There is too much truth in this post.. but it as with the rest of society roles are screwed up. The thing in a nut shell is that sports, like football are ment for entertainment, war is ment to maintain freedom of the US and keep our level of strength known thought the world so people think twice about messing with us . In todays society, people watching the sports and going to the games pay for that entertainment and make its value worth more... maybe we could use some of the money we waste on entertainment and donate it to a true and worthy cause....
How about education... the teachers that mold our children are one of the lowest paid. We send our children to them for 8 hours a day and tell them they can not discipline them. So our children become monsters in school and at home because we cant whoop them either cause its child abuse..
The list goes on and on about rightful pay for the duties done... but what can we as Americans do to change this? Nothing... why? Cause we forgot how to stick together.
Someone once made the quote "Together we stand, divided we fall" WELL FELLOW AMERICANS, THE US IS A PRODUCT OF OUR OWN MAKING....
Were falling one Superbowl at a time.........
[jonathan hibberd] - We should flip the salaries of teachers, law enforcement, firefighters, and military; with those of politicians, actors, and sports stars.
[jordan wilkerson] - Its a choice though.. yeah they defend our country but they chose that path in life. Im sure they're not doing it for money at this point. As far as football yeah they may be over paid. But people are paying to watch athletes preform.
[monika ramirez] - I think this is old and tired. Those crap ass politicians should work for minimum wage, I don't give a shit about football players, they get paid because people watch. Movie stars, same shit; they make too much money. People who put their lives at risk for others should have our respect and admiration. That goes for EMS, cops, firefighters, etc.
[joshua rangel] - I'm pretty sure the football players pay taxes out of their money too which in turn helps government pay for military.
[albert jackson] - Always about being white huh
[carol martin] - I read yesterday that the forces out in Afghanistan are having their meals reduced to 2 a day because of lack of funding. Do teachers pay for their lunches in school? There is NO comparison between a teacher & a member of the military.
[andrea consalvo] - Then stop funding it.
[jüniør garïbaldø] - A huuuugeeeee dissagree with this.
[timothy cobb] - I disagree. And honestly if you took a poll of intelligent Americans they would all disagree. While I do think athletes are over paid, by a lot, I also acknowledge that soldiers are over compensated too. I know a lot of ppl are gonna hate me for this, but it's true. And if you wanna talk about our economy simultaneously, this logic DEFINITELY doesn't hold up.
[joan baratta pesta] - If you have lost a soldier I think you have the right to say the cost a soldier pays out ranks football players and even teachers. Soldiers should be paid the highest salaries, for they pay the highest price for all of us.
[john mccarthy] - The sad truth is that everyone is in agreement with this post until their taxes increase.
[jenny gryczan] - Look at the ratio of American football players to American soldiers. To make this happen, our country would go bankrupt. We don't have the funds. The government doesn't pay football players. Use your heads, people. I don't disagree that soldiers should get better pay because they should but you have to take economics into account.
[ed lopez] - Here's my take, if u enlist on ur own free will and u end up going into a war zone or combat anywhere in the world wearing a US Military uniform, u should be granted any home in the USA free and clear. #2 Given a free pass to any restaurant in the country at no charge. #3 Any clothing store free clothing, ANY store. And 2 cars every 5 years till that soldier passes away from natural old age. Finally, allow the right to have or not a guaranteed job waiting for all combat vets. That's what they all deserve to say the least. We do it for welfare people.
[sharon trapp] - I think that nurses, firemen, policemen, and service men and women should make more money than any of the sports players.
[marilyn padgett] - Our Gov't is quick to send them, but forgets to take care of them!!!!! Next time, send Congress and the Senators!!!!!
[ara deylan] - nobody forced you to join the military.. Why should they get payed more.. If that were the case then everyone would be in the military.. I can understand that it's no fair.. Cause football players do get alot of money.. But they also deserve what they get cause they have worked hard all there lives to be able to get there.. With the military I can join tomorrow and I should instantly be a millionaire?? Bless the soldiers who fight for us. But don't compare them to anyone.. Soldiers get paid well enough for doing nothing half the time.. Unless they go over seas
[nate mader] - Remember. If you watch football or drink coors lite then you are the one putting $ in their pockets. Don't cheer for your team and then bitch about what they make.
[gina richards holland] - I think a man defending his country should make more money then the congressmen and senators who take more breaks then a chain smoker on cocaine.
[krissy gooch] - Well, one is private enterprise and one gets paycheck from US government...........
[dean mccaskill] - The last time we defended OUR country was in 1941... Not Korea, Not Vietnam, Not Afghanistan, Not Iraq (twice), Nice gesture here, but a little silly.
[shirley heffner] - We have a homeless vet in our family right now. I think it is a big problem when our vets can be homeless and their country can't take care of them like they take care of our country. Vets should get all free medical like the idiots in Washington.
[tim mcintosh] - I think people should learn about economics before posting stupid things like this. - from a Sailor
[chad dominie] - Stop buying all the hats and jerseys then they wouldn't be able to pay that kind of money.
[joe gimont] - It'd be cool, but where would that money come from? Last I checked the nfl brings money in to pay their players, everytime troops r deployed it costs money to use them, so would Yall be cool with like a country wide 2 trillion dollar tax hike to pay troops more money?
[matt reller] - Until people stop pumping billions into sports franchises (buying ridiculously priced tickets, jerseys etc) and watching that garbage on tv.....what do you expect?
[brian nagy] - Then this country would be 900 trillion dollars in debt. Athletes make that much money becausE they help bring in millions and millions in revenue. And because it's much more difficult to be a successful professional athlete then a soldier.
[derek wohlschlegel] - The military is led by core leaders in an established long term based form of a military team. Having saud this, I am making a point to not watch football this season nor all the post weekend(all week long) ESPN news coverage of a fanatic sport that lacks neither any nucleus of a permanent team nor any core leaders focused on teamwork. It's payroll is ridiculous and fueled by high definition TV demand and fantasy football leagues.
[brandy nicole tupacz] - Yes they should get paid more but it's not the nfl's fault that they don't. They know what they're making and they are well aware of the possibility of going to war before they join so ppl need to stop bitching about it. If they had a problem with it then don't join
[michael forbes] - WE pay entertainers. They're not robbing us. Stop paying them millions, boycott tv and live games, pull your kids out of sports. If you wont, then stop complaining about all the money entertainers make compared to anyone.
Our Time: We agree.
Like Our Time on Facebook if you do too. - 100th Comments
[dee riccio] - If we did that this country would be even more bankrupt..there are more soldiers than football players and baseball and basketball players...
[amy hankins gerfen] - So...stop spending your money on ridiculously priced games and stop buying team logo EVERYTHING and push to increase salaries and medical coverage for vets. Instead we pay for billion dollar stadiums in your taxes for teams I don't even watch! Put your money where your mouth is!
[jerry picard] - I think everyone should be paid whatever somebody thinks they are worth and is willing to pay them.
[karina bergesen] - We are he most over worked underpaid ...our job is 24/7
[laurie parizeau] - Hear hear!!! We idolize the wrong people in our society!!!
[jacob looney] - There's a lot more soldiers then there are football players.
[alexander morrow] - As a soldier myself I couldn't agree more. But sadly it will never happen. This country values the lives of talented foot ball players far more then that of every day men who have a far greater talent COURAGE!!!!! Something that 90% of football players lack. And if you need and example Pat Tillman people weren't upset because he was a good soldier that died it was because he was a good football player that died. Tillman got more press when he died then any other soldier.
[louis rosales] - We'll the man with a helmet defending his country is much more bad ass than a football player
[jimmy brown] - Let's get corporate sponsorship for our military!
[brad cherry] - It seems that the athlete is in it for the money and military and the police are in it for a sence of duty.
[christopher hannan] - Go on then pay the infantry a million each a year see how much money is lwft over for anything else.
[tomndiana smith] - It is a matter of where we place our value. Kids look up to sports figures and want the fame and money. When I was a child we looked up to those who were in public service, police, fire, soldiers etc... Now the liberals on the far left wont even let recruiters on campus because they despise a military career, that is until terrorists send planes into our nation and kill thousands of innocent Americans....
Some values need reinstated again.
There is no comparison between a game and the real life reality that millions wish to wipe out this nation.
Those who serve, deserve much but should never have to worry about how their families can thrive.
[regina perales cornell] - we are messed up country and state for letting our servicemen go struggling.. and getting denied certain things when they come back from war in football players live in mansions and have no care in the world.. about the money and how they get it when are true soldiers and their true men deserve much much more
[sheree' covington] - Teachers and Soldiers!
[art doss] - Being a Vet Nam veteran in 1972 wasn't real popular. I couldn't find a job other than fast foods or grunt construction work. I had a top secret crypto security clearance, responsible for expensive equipment and peoples lives. But nobody would give me a chance. Never forget America.
[joseph whisman] - The difference Jason, is that game players are revered and military are looked down on or disrespected!!
They come back from a war they didn't want to fight to have to fight to get medical a care. Their families suffer not having them around while the game players are comped plush hotel rooms! Ones we (average folks) would pay $250 or more a night for, they get for free. And I am not only talking about football! I include baseball, basketball, golf and tennis!
[juan martinez] - Its never been about the money. We get by just fine. Its about the pride of serving with the people who believe the same as you.
[joseph whisman] - Then Tootie Nichols, as if that isn't bad enough, the US Gov't send millions of dollars to other countries that hate us to help the, while our people go without or they give money to the illegals and not those born here that need it just as bad,
[tony kerr] - No. No. No. Every body knows what it pays before you take a job. Don't like the pay don't take the job. Our Military is voluntary. I support them 100%. The NFL is a business. If it bothers you how much these Guy's make don't watch.
[christian cianfrani] - I am a former Military Officer but this post makes no sense. So is this country supposed to pay us millions of dollars to join the military which is actually fairly easy to do. Or is it against the law for a business to pay their employees as much money as they want? Why are people so mad at athletes? It's a business and we are all the people who pay so much money to see them. They are the best in the world at what they do and we soldiers don't join for the money.
[joseph whisman] - Wahid Mateen, if you asked majority of the folks going over seas "invading" the other countries, they would tell you they would MUCH rather be home, with their families, playing whatever ball sport you like!!!
I know because I did that for OVER 24 years!!!!!
[judi shelly] - And maybe the politicians and president could or should earn their income by the hour like the rest of us! :-P
[glenda jo taylor] - Our soldiers need to stay home and defend our country as opposed to dying for lost causes in places that have been and will remain in turmoil for years to come.
[norma giron] - So should teachers!
[terri passwaters] - I think our military and teachers should make more than than any of the athletes. Proud mother of a US Marine and second grade teacher. Can't get any better than that.
[lori durham] - derek please dont judge our military wives by your mom or your ex s morals . These women take on the responsibility ofmom and dad for long furlows taking care of the home and the bills and sometimes several kiddos on a little over 1200 a month. so dont say all military wives are whores thats like saying all men are liars and cheaters .
[joey konsdorf] - False, anyone can be trained to be a soldier. One out of thousands can be trained to play professional football. I say that with all due respect.
[christopher williams] - So....should a guy in a suit and tie on Wall Street get paid more than a soldier?
[tenisha wren] - I think the Man defending our country should make more than the assholes who sit and make laws for people they know nothing about. We pay their salary by force we don't pay football players salary unless we like that team just saying.
[valerie giberson roland] - Absolutely!! It sickens me! And the treatment they get when they return home wounded, ugh! Takes forever for benefits to kick in, they lose their homes, etc. as if not traumatized enough! And I think our police and firefighters deserve so much more, as well! Ok, I shall now step down from my soapbox , lol!
[william williams] - They should. But they get paid with tax money. And none of you would be willy to pay more taxes for them. Cause you act like you're real people. But you're all pretty shitty deep down.
[vickie jimenez] - or wearing fire gear
[aaron mueller] - I truly respect those who serve however the fans pay the salaries so don't watch if it bothers you what they make
[cornelius gunn] - wat are they protecting anyway? Seam to me other countries should be defending themselves from us. An don't give me that protecting our freedom shit ain't nobody tryna take our damn freedom it's us that's doin the taking.....OIL
[karen mould-vandermeulen] - I totally agree! Actually should make more then the government morons sitting in office!!!!
[theresa annette estis] - And so should firefighters and policemen .
[jim kubitz] - Thank You! Someone finally said it. Football is way over rated and is borderline idol worship.
[ao ortiz] - Ok than than I'm not talking about u than am I ?? No ...
But all these other ppl are just ridiculous stupid to think football players should deserves more pay than people who FIGHT FOR THEIR LIVES AND FIGHT FOR THE PPL WHO ACTUALLY GET UP EVERY DAY ... Yeah they must not think about that huh... Who the fuck you think is keeping all the civilians alive ??? Exactly do nfl players wake up every morning and walk around IED fields hoping not to get blown up ?? Do they get in fire fights with these stupid afghans ?? Lmao nooo ... I bet u if they had a relative who was serving for their country than they would have a different opinion but I'm guessing they don't .. They are just looking at it at a dif point of view smh....
[ralph atwell] - Our Military people will never be paid enough. Maybe we should send our congress over, they get paid a lot more then they are worth. My opinion. G
[bob wheeler] - The problem is the military works for an organization that loses billions of dollars while football players work for one that MAKES billions.
[daniel zuber] - Sports sports sports sports sports sports sports sports sports sports sports sports sports sports sports sports sports
[william thogode] - This is "oh" so true Football players in their multimillion dollar homes and the vet on the street with no home and no HELP!
[mary quenga pedro] - If it wasn't for people volunteering a lot of the shit talkers on this pic would be drafted. Then what would you have to say? It's easy to talk down about our military when you've never been in and will never know what we go through. So keep on sitting back safe in your homes while our men and women lose time with their loved ones and some their lives so u can have the freedom to talk shit.
[patricia anne moores] - I think a person who teaches that person with a football helmet to read, write and do math and all the other subjects should get paid more than the person wearing a football helmet.
[ted osburn] - What do football players have to do with anything take money out of the politicians pocket and give it to the troops
[ed yu] - police officers and fire fighters as well can't forget about them
[dee rob] - Ok, but that would require higher taxes!!! Folks think about it. Football players are paid by a private sector, NOT TAX PAYERS
[aileen marie bonczyk] - I am so with u Jenny shame on our Country for allowing Football players Baseball Players all of those way overpaid men and our Servicemen serving our Country get shit for pays.Just Saying.
[pixi kundalini jacovides] - Totally agree. Memorable quote from Nick Maxwell 'I've never seen 44 blokes go to war like we just did then' Nice.
[carol speranzo] - I agree, these men & woman come home disabled either physically or emotionally wounded. They deserve to live in comfort for all the sacrifices they have made.

[charles briones] - Wow! Thank you for your comment on my fellow brothers and sisters who have the courage to defend our beloved country of which many enjoy all that our country has to offer. Even when many give the ultimate sacrifice. Their lives.. sure.. the pay isn't wonderful but knowing we were not afraid to answer the call and defending our country and what we believe in.. its priceless.. Although, boys not men who choose to post their comment that athletes deserve better than our military men and women.. well, until u grow a pair and have the honor, courage and commitment what many of us have done.. shut your mouths up. BITCHES! Or pick up a rifle and stand guard on a 24hr watch with no sleep..while under fire or artillery being launched at your location. Then tell me if football players deserve better.... SEMPER FI... Boys.....
[justin gonzales] - Hard to make that happen when military runs off tax dollars and pro. sports generates billions in profits from fans, including active duty fans.. It won't ever change. 'Merica..
[jordan streur] - A man defending his country from others defending their country?
[margaret keahey] - Absolutely amen!
[dianna lawless cutrer] - You are so right!,,
[jerry white] - I'm not understanding the teacher comments. I agree teachers aren't paid enough. Neither are policemen or firefighters, but this was about pro sports and military men.
[sabrina lucero] - Whaaat??!! This is capitalism at its finest!!! Football is through the private sector while the military is through the public sector! How can anyone say its not fair! Especially since you all love our economic system we have here in America!!! That's the way it works fuck tards!!!! You all hate Obama so much cause you say he's a socialist right?? Well socialism wouldn't allow this kind of unfairness!!! Damn freakin idiots just talk without knowing anything!!!
[fernando rosa] - If you want to send your loves ones to die in fgn countries its ok with me...but PLEASE,,,,don't say they did it for me.
[dan dutton] - Dumb comparison...
[jeesseniia ootavvo] - Oh yeah so true blah! Then stop going to all these sports games and paying for team logo anything!! How about not refusing to donate money or items to the troops at the register cvsp
[fernando rosa] - USA Soldiers went to Viet Nam...they killed Millions of People...men women and kids,,,,,How did that defend you? Was that poor farming community..out to get you ? If so,,,why are we so paranoid?
[fernando rosa] - How does going to Fgn countries to kill people defend us,,,,,? How did it defend Trayvon Martin ? Soldiers get their just reward...its for God to decide...You reap what you sow
[amanda carter] - this couldn't be more true !!
[dustin tackett] - We don't need millions of dollars. But it would be great if we made enough to pay the bills and have a decent life.
[connie huston] - This is a true statement, although it will never happen!!!
[phil murphy] - NFLPA is a stronger union... They had to hold-out, barter, deal with lock-outs, etc so the owners would share more of the pie. Look up troop pay compared to other expenditures in "defense." You'll see that private companies take home MUCH more of the money and they never step foot on a battlefield, but they do great work fishing trips with congress.
[joshua rangel] - Football=franchise
Soldier=paid for by government
(Not a fair comparison.)
All these people complaining about what soldiers make should send a request to pay higher taxes. Soldiers should make more but I have a family to support to so I won't pay more taxes than I already do.
[lofton lofton] - How often do they fight? How often do football players play? Alot of times our soldiers are fighting fights that arent even ours so blame the US government and not football players
[sonia kaur] - I agree...but where would the money come from? Football players get that kind of salary because fans are willing to pay to watch. Just being realistic.
[tim bergsten] - I think we should pay teachers more.
[cynthia porto carlson] - Well, that's not going to happen. Could we at least just give them the basics? How about decent health care and enough for food and shelter? It would be a start at least.
[dominique dekindt] - The problem with that is that there are too many people carrying arms than there are people playing football! But I agree!
[stephen sachs] - It would be nice if we took education seriously and compensated teachers accordingly.
[marcus a. ribbon] - I'm a future U.S Navy Sailor, it's one thing to acknowledge the disparity between the salaries of soldiers and athletes, and be outraged by it. It's something completely different to dismiss what it actually takes to make that kind of money, most athletes don't make the money you think they make, maybe 10% at best actually makes millions and they work extremely hard for that money.
[dakota reeves] - As much as I agree, there is difference. The men and women serving our country are paid through the government. Football players are paid through the organization they play for.
[jeremiah lecrone] - The constitution says we the people we the people never stand together on things most of us let are government do what they want and that's why nothing ever will change
[damien kuklinski] - Well there arent stadiums for us to watch people kill each other are there?...
[jan miller] - As much as I love football I have to agree.
[itsame mario] - Ummm ones a private organization and the other one is ran by the government.... nothing against military personnel just saying
[isaiah figueraw] - Players r entertainers. N entertainers get paid bookoo bucks to kp us distracted n unwilling to learn abt the corrupted GOV Dealgs within th world.
[barbara ingram] - the way this country treats our trouop's is criminal--our military deserve our ultmost respect and much, much, more-daily prayers and graditude-their families need to be taken care of as well. These military personel are fighting and die in the line of duty for us---and WHAT DO WE DO FOR THEM. Pray for our troop's -ALWAYS- and our vets as well. they need our prayers and love. ---mebarb out
[alex saleeby] - Agreed...soldiers, teachers, first responders,...all deserve better...our society's value system needs a reboot....
[denise robbins] - that's what happens when you work for the government instead of private owners.
[ryan gonyou] - There's a difference.... One of them doesn't do it for the money......
[deb maffeo] - Yes, yes, yes!!!
[alice eby] - this is for sure, our military men should get paid so much more than men playing a game!!!!!
[tim olson] - The men defending footballs distract our attention from the men in Washington spending our breakfast, lunch, and dinner money on sending the men with guns to create opportunities for the men running corporate America and declaring their profits as off shore, paying no tax, while they spend those profits on elections to guarantee the footballs are first, the guns second, and our teachers last. Turn the game off, read the paper, and get involved. No more fox holes, fix a pot hole.
[ronald karkela] - It's been tried, it's called a State Controlled economy, better known as Communism! Free markets would not pay athletes as much if local and state governments would stop subsidizing their stadiums and arenas. Look at the taxpayer subsidies being paid in Minnesota for all the professional sports teams. No easy answers I admit.
[louise owens] - I do not agree with you Marcella. You would not be standing in a class room if not for the military.
[william willson] - The only problem with that is, it takes thousands to defend our country and only eleven to defend the football.
[brenda menendez] - NFL raises their own money to pay their players. You cant fault them for that. Yes the military deserve more, but thats the government for you. Its not gona happen. They should always be respected, that doesnt cost anything and doesnt hurt anyone to give it.
[susan licciardi] - the government pay soldiers! The football players are paid by the owners of the team! Big difference! And iagree the soldiers are not drafted they join and they know what the pay will be we can not do anything to get the government to pay them more! But i do agree they should be helped by the government when they return from war! We love what our troops do for us but we can not force the government to do more even though we know the troops should bepaid moreand be taken care of if they need help when they return homefrom war!!
[marc hook] - Soldiers are definitely under paid but you can't compare the two with each other. People who join the military are passionate about what they do and stand for. Football is entertainment just like movies and books. Professional ball players get paid the money they do because we treat them like celebrities. There is 1696 players in the NFL at the beginning of the season. There are way more people in the military. Our country couldn't afford to pay our military like celebrities. Bottom line, you can't compare the two but a lot of people who serve our country are certainly under paid nor should they have to deal with unexpected furloughs. Thank you to those who fight for our freedom!
[hilary barbosa] - Absolutely agree......and how about teachers, fire fighters, police officers.....to name a few.
[jerry ameral] - you wont see it until war becomes a spectator sport.
[cliff sherman] - People won't buy tickets to watch war......
[jason conley] - @ Brenda Barajas yes we volumteer, we volunteer to put our life's on the line daily for scraps, I can barely pay my bills month to month yet I see these people even animals making more in one year than I will ever think about making in a lifetime. It's ok though I get by I have my pride and wear my country's colors with dignity I LOVE WHAT I DO AND THE COUNTRY I FIGHT FOR. Don't need riches
[monica bockhahn] - Absolutely! For God's sake - I wish people would realize that one is definitely a game and one is not!
[rick christie] - Vote with your wallet then and pay more taxes and never watch football again. Yeah, I didn't think so.
[ralph day] - Unfortunately, as Pastor Jim Page pointed out a couple years ago: "You don't get paid for how hard you work. You get paid for how hard it is to replace you."
Our Time: We agree.
Like Our Time on Facebook if you do too. - 200th Comments
[joe safreed] - I think I should get paid to listen to all the crazy things I read on Face Book?
[robyn gibboney] - And the people who teach our children should also earn more than people who play sports.
[kyla bradley] - Most of y'all are stun that they chose this career I it wasn't for our American soilders America would b a mess and u wouldn't b able to sleep in peace at night.. We get that bc they t on the frontline so we can rest and wake in peace ... Some of you r so disrespectful..
[gloria lockamy] - We don't need higher taxes, we need the people spending our money to spend it on the American people and not every other country in the world. Our military personnel should be one of the highest priorities when our money is being spent.
[peggy bird] - I agree! I;m not a fan of those millionaires playing football.
[juan mejia] - If you're desagree, just put a helmet in your head and go to the war front .... then put a helmet and play a football game to see the difference .... "if you survived from the first one"
Our soldiers are "VERY UNDERPAID" ....
[bridget riley] - I think a man defending our country & freedoms should make more than the figure head making the decisions to endanger our country & freedoms
[susan raineri] - Trease...i'm finally writing my novel and one of the characters is named Trease
[vanessa meier vann] - No doubt there! This country has its priorities all messed up. Men playing a game and making lots and lots of money are looked upon more highly by the media, our kids, and the general public than those that keep our freedom. There's something wrong with that.
[jason combs] - I understand and agree with the support, however this isn't a logical post because sports players get their money from the fans not the government and even then there can only be a select amount of players. How can the government afford to pay soldiers that amount?
[michael eaton] - Problem is that that there are more soldiers then foot ball players...and no one pays to watch soldiers fight...so.....
I know it sucks
[jane pasley] - Patriotism, my husband serve in the army for 36 years. All our men and woman in our arm forces are my hero's.
[arthur richardson] - Same goes for teachers...our first line of defense against ignorance.
[billie george] - Shouldn't even be an issue . . . Our priorities are so messed up!
[annamarie emery bloch] - I think the police, fire fighters, first responders and my husband should make more than the silly man defending a ball! Never ever will understand why we let ball players be millionaire heroes!
[jacob mingus] - I agree neal the military should be the highest paid in the country period. .
[sonja harper] - I agree. I also think that the people who teach the next generation should make more than people who portray characters in movies or tv.
[rosie mcgowan] - Definitely so true.
[nancy heald] - Almost anyone should make more doing meaningful work than a guy playing ball of any kind.
[kyle dmello] - This is fucking retarded. People should make more money by killing people? Dumbass faggots who agree with this bullshit should get stabbed.
[rose savedbyhim bradford] - That is so very true. However, until our society value life, more than sports and things it will never happen.
[matt beatty] - As a soldier. I disagree.
[magdalena taipe] - Agree! !! Also a teacher deserve a decent salary after 5 years of college and 2 of master than a basketball player.
[ruben arcega] - Nothing against the VETS defending our country, but not just anyone can "defend a foot ball"
[bret thomas johnson] - Such a poor understanding of simple economics, namely supply and demand, is why this nation is in such trouble. Asinine post.
[nate mader] - Too bad people don't pay money to watch other people play army.
[dora sisneros arizmendi] - Seriously......no comparison! Football players get paid top dollar because the fans pay top dollar to see them.......The government employs thousands and thousands of solders and provide them with all the neccesities they need. If your angry that athlets get paid millions of dollars then stop watching sports.
[patty falk] - Pro ballplayers of any sport make way to much money!!! We should boycott all sports for a week , see if the owners can pay their players with no money coming in from US!!!!
[marla harlan] - A lot of really ANGRY people posting here. I'm surprised at the nasty comments about teachers. You talk about them like they're the enemy. When was the last time you were in a public school classroom for more than a few minutes? When you actually know what you're talking about, get back to me...
[molly anna mccaughey] - Football players get paid more cause millions of people pay to see them play. Nobody is gonna pay to sit and watch somebody murder an innocent family in Iraq. Duh. Stupid people
[dillon peterson] - People are serving for all the wrong reasons
it shod be for the live of your country not to make money
[adrian castrejon] - WROOOOOONG!!!!
They should have been practicing with a football if they wanted to make more money!!!! The armed forces are VOLUNTARY!!!!!!
[dillon peterson] - Well.. ask yourself
Are there more people in armed forces than the nfl?
People should serve to defend they're country, its not about money
Professional sports is all about money.
more people qualify to be in armed forces than in professional sports.
demand for athletes that can compete on a professional level. Is much much higher than demand of military people
In fact there are too many people trying to join the military that's why its not easy to join the military anymore.
I love and support all members of the military
And no doubt they are absolutely important and supported but they take money while the NFL makes money
